Chapter 12 - The Girl in the Ice

If your past is still breathing—do you kill it, bury it, or try to love it again? 💔

---

Prologue — Northern Kolkata, Restricted Morgue Facility

The cryo-pod glowed under ultraviolet lights.

Inside it, a woman's body rested in perfect stillness.

Same face. Same skin. Same scar behind the left ear.

No breath. No warmth.

But slight activity—measured in flickering neural pulses.

Anne Mehta.

Not alive but not dead either..... She's in.... Limbo.

---

Scene 1 — Mumbai, Ashira's Apartment

Ashira woke from a dream where she couldn't scream.

A memory had returned—Anne, standing in a room full of doctors, refusing another experimental procedure. Begging.

They sedated her.

Ashira clutched her head.

Damien rushed in, eyes wide. "What is it?"

"I remember what they did. I didn't die in peace. I died terrified."

Damien touched her shoulder. She didn't pull away.

"I need to see it," she said. "I need to see what they did to me."

---

Scene 2 — The Morgue

Lucien waited outside the morgue, flanked by Viren and Kian. No bodyguards. No masks.

He looked at Damien.

"This isn't about leverage," Lucien said. "This is about what's human."

Ashira arrived last.

No makeup. No heels. Just her.

She paused before the pod.

And stared.

It was like looking into a mirror underwater.

"Is that… still me?" she asked no one.

Kian said softly, "Biologically, yes."

"But legally," Viren added, "Anne is dead."

Ashira approached the glass.

"She looks peaceful," she whispered.

"No," Lucien said. "She looks paused."

Flashback — Ashira's Past: Final Moments as Anne

Anne had been told she wouldn't wake up.

Her heartbeat had slowed.

The doctors had stepped back, waiting for the end.

But someone—she couldn't remember who—pressed a finger to her forehead.

A whisper followed.

> "You won't end. You'll begin again."

And then—darkness.

---

Scene 3 — Confrontation: Ashira vs. Herself

Alone in the chamber, Ashira stared at Anne's frozen face.

"She still looks for love," Ashira whispered.

The part of her that had once been Anne twisted painfully.

"She believed the world would be kind if she was kind first."

Ashira placed her palm against the glass.

"I want to protect her. But I don't know if she's me anymore."

Lucien entered silently.

"You don't have to be her."

Ashira turned.

"Then why do I feel like I'm betraying myself if I let her die?"

Lucien's voice softened. "Because your heart is still Anne's."

She wiped her eyes. "I don't know what to do."

"You're already doing it," Lucien said. "You're choosing."

---

Scene 4 — Council Deliberation

Back in Geneva, the Global Ethics Committee debated fiercely.

"If Anne Mehta awakens, what becomes of Ashira Lin?"

"She's a legal anomaly."

"She's a miracle."

"She's a threat to religious institutions. Scientific boundaries. National stability."

Chairperson: "Then we keep her under watch."

Councilwoman: "Until what? Until we decide which soul deserves to live?"

---

Scene 5 — Emotional Spiral: Damien & Ashira

That night, Damien found Ashira in his study, curled up on the couch.

"You never told me what you saw when I died," she whispered.

He sat beside her.

"I didn't see you die," he said. "I saw you vanish. One moment you were in pain. The next, I was alone in a hallway with nothing but a coat you left behind."

Ashira trembled.

"What if I choose to bring her back?"

"Then I'll protect you both," he said without hesitation.

She looked at him with tears.

"But I'm not sure I'd survive seeing someone love her more than me."

He cupped her cheek.

"No one could love either of you more than I already do."

---

Scene 6 — Decision: The Memory Lock

Ashira stood before the cryo-terminal. A button glowed amber.

> REVIVE | DELETE | LOCK MEMORY

She selected LOCK MEMORY.

Everyone stared.

"You're not waking her?" Kian asked gently.

Ashira: "Not yet."

Damien: "Why?"

Ashira: "Because if I open her eyes, she might remember everything. The pain. The fear. The betrayal."

She turned around.

"She deserves peace."

Lucien murmured, "That's the most human thing you've ever said."

Ashira: "Let her rest. Until I can offer her a world worth waking up in."

---

Scene 7 — Rebirth of Purpose

Later, in a private meeting with all allies present, Ashira stood at the head of a war table.

"We are being watched by syndicates, corporations, governments, and ghosts."

She looked at each man—Damien, Kian, Lucien, Viren.

"You don't serve me. You stand with me. Because this isn't a fight for power."

"It's a fight for meaning."

They all nodded.

Lucien: "Then where do we begin?"

Ashira smiled.

"With the truth."

---

Final Scene — Message to the World

Ashira's voice played across encrypted world channels.

> "My name was Anne Mehta.

My name is now Ashira Lin.

I died once believing love would save me.

I lived again knowing love must be earned.

I'm not your subject. I'm not your saint.

I am not a second chance.

I am the first of something new."

And in secret bunkers, religious halls, military war rooms, and tech labs—

—people listened.

And prepared.

End of Chapter 12

---

In Short:-

Ashira is shown her original body—Anne—in cryostasis, still biologically alive with faint neural activity.

Emotional arcs deepen: Ashira confronts the trauma of seeing herself, her past, and the impossibility of being two people at once.

Lucien, Damien, and Kian are portrayed as layered, supportive male leads—each with different but genuine emotional depth.

Ashira chooses not to revive Anne yet, believing peace is better than pain, for now.

The world begins to shift around her—religions, governments, and hidden labs are watching.

Ashira reclaims control of the narrative, no longer reactive, but a proactive visionary shaping the world ahead.

Next Chapter tease– Chapter 13: The House of Echoes

Ashira's message reaches more than she intended. A hidden sect claiming to protect "souls displaced through rebirth" reaches out. They call themselves The House of Echoes. They say they've seen people like her before—and not all of them stayed sane.

And a tragic loss happens.
