Chapter 102: Come Back To Me
"Harry!" Ginny called again. "Where are you?"
She continued to walk through this void for an unknown amount of time. It was impossible to keep track of how much time had passed while inside a place such as this.
Ginny was not seeing as many of those images as before, but all the painful emotions that Harry had experienced during his life were imprinted here, and she would feel them as well, even if she didn't want to.
"Harry, please…" Her tired eyes shifted around. "Wait!" Something new entered her vision.
Something that was neither darkness nor more nightmares. A person.
"There you are!" With a sudden burst of vigor, Ginny took off running toward the figure.
"It's him! It really is this time!" She was sure of it. He was sitting and looking down.
Ginny got in front of him and looked at his face. "Harry!" This was indeed Harry's consciousness. Exactly what she had been looking for since the beginning. She finally found it.
But now that she was mere inches away, Ginny took note of his empty eyes. The usual brightness in Harry's emerald eyes was nowhere to be seen. They now looked dull and empty, just as she had seen too many times in this black void.
"No… am I too late?" Ginny grabbed his shoulder and shook him. "Come on, Harry. Say something!"
"Gin…ny?" Harry muttered.
"Yes!" She was ecstatic for having gotten a response. "It's me, Ginny. I came here for you."
He looked at her. His facial expression did not change. Something was missing in him. "Why?"
"W-What do you mean, why? Because you needed someone to help you, and I… care about you, Harry. A lot, actually," Ginny said, pushing past her embarrassment.
"You shouldn't have," Harry responded, his dull eyes moving away from her. "I failed. Too many mistakes. I… deserve this."
"What?!" exclaimed Ginny. "Do you even know what you are saying? As we are talking, that Obscurus is causing havoc in your mind. It's taking all your memories away! If you don't do something soon… There will be nothing left of you."
"Yes, I can feel the darkness of the Obscurus spreading over my mind," Harry said.
"And? Are you going to let that thing devour you?" Ginny frowned.
"Why not? I ruined everything… I lost V... I accomplished nothing that I set out to do. I deserve this. Let me die, Ginny."
"Let you die?! I… cannot believe what I'm hearing." Ginny clenched her teeth as she became filled with rage. "Are you kidding me?!" Without thinking twice, she stepped forward and landed a punch on his face.
Harry went tumbling around.
"That hurt…" he then said.
"I hope it did!" Ginny shouted at him. "Now get up, so I can punch you again."
Harry sat up, grasping at his cheek. "No."
"What, are you afraid of a bit of pain? I thought you wanted to die," Ginny said.
"Why are you angry with me?" Harry asked, appearing incapable of understanding her emotions.
"Because…" Ginny froze when she saw a small change in him. There was a sliver of light in his eyes, and his face was more expressive.
"Mmm?" Harry looked at her.
"Stand up," Ginny said.
"You are going to punch me again," Harry responded.
"Fine." She kicked him this time.
Harry went tumbling around.
"Feeling better now?" Ginny asked him.
"Urgg…" Harry sat back up. "Why would I feel better? You kicked me!." He shouted. His face started to reflect some emotion.
"I am trying to help you. That's what I came here for," Ginny said.
"This is not helping me!" Harry complained.
"I think it does," Ginny said. "You look a lot more lively than before. Let me kick you a few more times."
"No! This doesn't help at all. The pain is all there! Only V could have helped me. He made the pain go numb… it was still there, but it didn't bother me so much. But now he is gone, and there is nothing I can do about it," Harry said. "Its all back and I just want it all to stop!."
She sighed. After seeing what she had seen, she could understand why he felt that way. "You are right, Harry. Your friend is gone, and I know how much torment you have suffered. I cannot make that go away. I wish I could, but… I don't know how," Ginny said.
"If you understand, then—"
"But I won't leave you," she interrupted him. "If you don't confront things head-on, they will never stop hurting you."
"You can't stay here forever," Harry frowned.
"I know I can't. I'll probably die for real if I do. And I won't be the only one either."
"I told you. I want t—"
"I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about all the people in the real world who still need you. My brother Ron, Hermione, Charlie, and George. My parents… Dumbledore. Your godfather, Sirius. They are all still out there...fighting. And they all need you!. Are you going to let us all die?. "
"Voldemort…" Harry muttered.
"Yes, that one. Did you forget about him? He is now in possession of your old friend and can use all of his power. He will be invincible… and the Dark Lord will not stop until he gets rid of everyone who has opposed him," Ginny explained. "Everyone you used to care for."
"I…"
"So forgive me, but I'm going to keep kicking you and punching you and dragging you by the hair, if that is what it takes to make you see reason again."
Harry grimaced.
"I'm going to bring the real Harry Potter out. I want that Harry back, the one I fell in love with." Ginny clenched her fists. "So get ready."
"W-wait, I'm not r—"
Before he could get up, Harry was punched hard and sent rolling.
Ginny went after him.
"Ha!" She threw a kick to his side and saw the expression on his face. He was in pain, but the dullness in his eyes was disappearing.
Ginny ignored her exhaustion and continued the assault, hoping that it would work.
After a dozen blows, Ginny was not feeling very well. She had no body to get tired, but her mind was reaching its limit.
"Just a bit more… please, Harry, come back to me." She threw a direct punch aimed at his face as he was standing up.
But much to her shock, her fist never found its target and was instead blocked by his hand.
Harry looked back at her. His green eyes were shining like beacons. "Ginny..."
