Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Wen Mianmian

Ring! Ring! Ring!

Wen Mianmian groaned on her bed, her eyes still tightly shut as the sharp sound of her phone pierced through her sleep.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

She finally forced her eyes open and struggled to sit up, her body heavy with sleep. Rubbing her eyes with a deep frown, she glanced toward the small desk beside her bed where her phone kept vibrating non-stop.

With clear annoyance, she reached for it and squinted at the caller ID.

Yuqi ❤️

"Urghhh… Yuqi!" Mianmian groaned, rolling her eyes before reluctantly picking up the call.

"Yuqi, why the hell are you calling me this early in the morning?" Her voice came out hoarse and tired.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU, MIAN?!"

Mianmian flinched so hard she nearly dropped the phone.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" she snapped, still trying to recover from the sudden scream.

"Mr. Yao is in a terrible mood right now because he can't find you in the office. Why aren't you here yet?!" Yuqi said

Mianmian frowned, confused for a second… then suddenly everything clicked.

Her eyes widened.

"Oh my God… oh my God!!" she gasped, grabbing her hair in panic as she checked the time on her phone.

9:15 AM.

Her heart dropped. She had completely forgotten to set her alarm yesterday night.

"You know today is important! You're supposed to be in the office by 8, girl!!" Yuqi continued yelling.

"Yuqi, I forgot to set my alarm somehow, I'll be there soon!" Mianmian said quickly before cutting the call.

Within twenty minutes, she had rushed through everything, bathing, dressing, and grabbing her things in pure chaos. She didn't even bother with makeup, tossing a few items into her bag so she could fix her face later at the office.

Standing in front of the mirror, she took a quick look at herself.

She was beautiful, but not the striking, seductive kind. She had a soft, innocent charm, with her ocean eyes with a straight brown bangs framing her face and long flowing hair resting on her shoulders. She wore a light blue shirt tucked into a pencil skirt, paired with black heels… though the shirt was slightly crumpled. Which she obviously didn't iron.

This is Wen Mianmian, the most interesting lady in the world. She's a 20-year-old intern reporter, with a younger brother, a late father, and a mother battling cancer in the hospital… Okay, maybe that sounded a bit too heavy. But you get the point right? her life is far from boring.

And right now, she was about to be chopped into pieces by her director for being late..

Mianmian rushed out to the street, running awkwardly in her high heels like a chicken escaping danger. She wasn't used to them at all especially running in them, but she didn't have a choice, she had to catch the bus.

As soon as she reached the bus stop, her heart sank.

The bus was already moving.

"Wait... wait! Stop!!" she shouted, running after it desperately. "Someone tell the driver to stop, please!"

Passengers by the window turned to stare at her as she chased the bus like her life depended on it.

Finally, the bus slowed down.

Mianmian let out a breath of relief and hurried toward the door, but just as she reached it, her heel twisted.

Her foot slipped.

And the next second, her face hit the ground.
