Chapter 51 - Halls of Thunder

Morning settled like pale gold across Olympus Village. The marble city stirred beneath ringing bells as disciples in white-trained tunics marched into the Aether Square, gathering for the Prodigy Rank Trials. News whispered across the sandstone roads — new transfer disciples had arrived. Eyes followed Kairo and Reina like shadows.

Reina walked with quiet grace, veil hooded low, hiding the violet glint of her eyes. Kairo walked beside her, hands in his pockets, chewing calmly on a stick of roasted olive leaf as if he owned the place.

He didn't.

But it felt like he should.

They had been here only a week, but whispers already flew like sparks.

"Who is that boy? He carries himself like lightning."

"No background? No clan? They're hiding something."

"…yet his aura feels compact. Refined. Dangerous."

Lysandros kept watch from above the colonnade balcony — tall, blonde, thunder in his presence. He was Zeus Clan's golden prodigy, and unlike others, he wasn't fooled. His eyes narrowed every time he saw Kairo train too efficiently, hold back too cleanly. Nobody that young learns power that fast without a secret.

And Kairo had many.

Hall of Trials

White pillars stretched into the heavens. Aether crackled like static across the arena. Young disciples formed a ring, and scribes dipped quills into blue fire to record all events — this was where reputation was born.

Master Archon raised his staff.

"Today, we evaluate the new transfers. Only those worthy may remain in Olympus Academy."

Kairo exhaled lightly.

Reina whispered, "Don't overdo it."

"Me? Never." He smirked. "Maybe just break a little pride."

His tone was still playful — but beneath it, power coiled like a silent storm.

First Test — Aether Control

Disciples stepped forward one by one to shape Aether into spheres. Most formed trembling motes the size of apples. A few elites made orbs as large as melons.

Then Kairo was called.

He walked up casually, rolled his shoulders…

And formed a coin-sized orb — tiny, flickering faintly.

The crowd snickered.

"That's it?"

"Weak."

"A pretender."

Lysandros raised a brow.

Reina's lip quirked — she knew.

Kairo's voice was calm, bored almost.

"Judge it closely."

They laughed harder — until Archon leaned forward. His pupils shrank.

The tiny orb was dense — compacted like a singularity. Aether so pressurized that space warped faintly around it. It was like holding a star in a tear-drop.

Dangerous. Illegal even.

Kairo released it — not outward, but upward.

It shot into the sky like a bullet, vanished—

—then the clouds split with silent lightning.

The arena fell dead quiet.

No one understood what happened.

Reina whispered behind him like poetry on steel:

"He prefers subtlety."

Kairo returned to his place, face blank, hands back in his pockets.

Jokes gone. Cold. Ruthless presence humming.

Now they feared him.

Exactly what he wanted — respect without exposing dual affinity.

Second Test — Combat

Pairs were drawn randomly.

Against Kairo stood Darius of Sparta, a muscular fire-user who cracked his knuckles with a grin.

"You talk big, outsider. Let's see if you burn."

Kairo didn't speak.

Didn't blink.

When the bell rang — Darius charged with flames roaring around his fists. The crowd cheered.

Kairo moved like water.

No wasted motion.

No excitement.

Just precision.

He sidestepped, swept the leg, tapped the neck — three movements so fast only Lysandros caught them. Darius hit the floor coughing, ignition failing as Kairo's foot rested lightly on his chest.

No expression.

No mercy.

Just domination.

The arena froze.

Kairo spoke coldly:

"Fire without control is just smoke."

Gasps erupted. Whispers surged. Archon's staff trembled.

Lysandros clenched his fist.

This boy… will be a problem.

After the trial

Rankings posted:

Kairo — Gold Assessment

Reina — Silver Assessment (also held back intentionally)

Students swarmed, whispering, speculating — but none dared confront them directly.

Except one.

A boy stepped out — skinny, cocky, eyes too confident for his strength. The type whose aura was all bark, little bite.

"So you're the new prodigy? I'm Alexios. Top-200 ranked. Try not to bow when you see me."

Kairo stared for five seconds straight, expression blank as carved stone.

Then he answered softly:

"If arrogance was strength, you'd be a god already."

Reina choked back a laugh.

The crowd OOOH'd like school children.

Alexios turned red and stormed off.

Nightfall — Infiltration Progress

In their inn room later, maps spread across the floor.

Reina traced routes with chalk.

"We've located three prodigies, two elders, and the rumored hidden temple of Zeus. Their hierarchy is strict. If we gain Lysandros' trust, doors will open."

Kairo nodded, eyes sharp now.

"We go deeper. We learn, we adapt. One wrong step and we burn."

He paused. Then added, quieter.

"When the time comes… we'll tear this village from the inside."

Reina looked at him, sensing something darker beneath his calm.

Jokes gone.

Storm awake.

She whispered:

"You're enjoying this too much."

Kairo smiled faintly — but the smile wasn't warm.

"Maybe."

Lightning flashed somewhere beyond the colonnade.

Tomorrow, their infiltration truly began.
