Sofia told me the daycare was close, just a short walk on the way to the subway station where I needed to go. Sofia held my hand tightly, her fingers laced with mine, like she was afraid to let go.
The afternoon sun was warm, and the streets were busy with people going about their normal lives, completely unaware of what had just happened in the break room of her store.
"Alex… can I stay at your place?" Sofia asked quietly as we walked. "I don't know how I can live with my husband now."
I squeezed her hand gently. "Don't worry, Sofia. I think he just needs some time to process what happened. I'm sure he'll understand that you love me now, and he'll respect your decision."
