Chapter 14 - Starlains Rebellion

CHAPTER 14 — "THE ELEMENTAL STRUGGLE"

Eight weeks of sweat, failure, growth, and the final exam that determines their rank.

The following morning after their first real weapon training, the recruits stood in a perfect line across the training grounds.

Astrin, Nerya, Vel-Arin, and Khyros faced them—serious, calm, unreadable.

Today was the day they would attempt to unlock their Primordial Arts.

No blades.

No combat.

Just raw essence.

Most of them didn't realize how difficult that truly was.

THE ATTEMPT

The recruits kneeled in a wide circle around the Primordial Arena—a floating disk of stone and energy designed to measure cosmic resonance.

Astrin walked around them slowly.

"To unlock a Primordial Art, you must reach a point where willpower overrides fear. You must touch the center of yourself and pull energy through your body without hesitation."

He looked at each recruit.

"You will fail today. And tomorrow. Maybe for weeks. That is normal. Do not lie to yourself about your limits."

Kario swallowed. He already felt behind.

Vel-Arin raised a hand, and a pulse rippled across the arena.

"Begin."

Vexa — Starfire

She inhaled, focusing inward.

A spark flickered across her shoulders—bright red-orange—

Then exploded wildly, shooting a burst of heat in every direction.

Miru screeched and dodged. Juno rolled her eyes as she ducked under the blast.

Vexa growled.

"Why is controlling FIRE so damn HARD?!"

Astrin didn't flinch.

"Because you feel too loudly. Balance your emotions, or the fire will burn you before it burns your enemies."

Sen — Abyssal Water

Deep blue light gathered around his hands.

For a moment, the air bent—space curving like a wave—

Then it collapsed, dumping him face-first into the ground.

Sen groaned.

"I… think I drowned the space under me?"

Khyros sighed.

"You created a temporary gravity pocket. Do not do that again."

Juno — Lightning

Electricity crackled across her fingertips—fast, sharp, dangerous.

She grinned. "Okay, I got this."

ZAP—

She blasted herself five feet backward, skidding across the ground.

Miru clapped. "You flew!"

Juno shouted back, "I WASN'T TRYING TO FLY!"

Raviix — Void

He closed his eyes, calm as a drifting shadow.

Voidlight pulsed around him—

Then imploded, dropping him to one knee.

Astrin quickly stabilized him with a hand.

"Don't reach too deep. The Void reaches back."

Raviix nodded silently.

Rhyka — Spatial Fold

She focused, hands trembling slightly.

Space warped—beautifully, precisely—

until a ripple snapped outward, slicing a clean line across the training floor.

Everyone stared.

Rhyka exhaled shakily.

"…That was the wrong direction."

Nerya gave a warning look.

"That was dangerous. Do not fold space where people are standing."

Trexan — Shadow Phase

Trexan dissolved partway into mist.

Then lost cohesion and fell to the ground like a dropped cloak.

Raviix offered a hand.

Trexan ignored it and stood silently.

Ogren — Magneto-Energy

His entire body glowed with oscillating polarity.

Then he got stuck to the ground.

Like a magnet.

Face-first.

"Karioooo… help… I'm stuck…"

Kario sighed and pried him off the training floor.

Rylliss — Light Resonance

Rylliss hummed loudly.

His entire body brightened.

Brightened.

Brightened—

And then he overloaded his own light.

POP.

He went dim instantly, shocked and embarrassed.

"I… malfunctioned."

Miru — Wind

She inhaled deeply.

Wind gathered.

Lifted her.

Lifted her—

Then launched her twenty feet straight into the sun direction.

She tumbled for ten seconds, screaming, before landing in a pile of bushes.

"Suuuuuuuuuuper not under control!"

Kario — All Arts

Kario sat still.

Focused.

Reached inward…

Nothing happened.

No spark.

No flicker.

No pulse.

Just stillness.

Vexa glanced at him.

"Kario… it's okay—"

"No," he whispered. "Something's wrong."

Astrin felt a ripple through the room.

He knew exactly what was happening.

Kario wasn't failing because he had nothing.

He had too much.

But he stayed silent—for now.

SIX WEEKS LATER — WEEK 8 OF TRAINING

Sweat.

Discipline.

Meditation.

Drills.

Soreness.

Arguments.

Victories.

Setbacks.

Day after day after day.

And slowly—EVERYONE grew.

The training grounds became a warzone of progress.

How Far Each Has Come:

Vexa — Starfire Control

Now she could summon controlled flame wisps around her hands without exploding anything… most days.

Anger still triggered flare-ups, but she learned grounding techniques.

Sen — Water & Gravity Flow

He could shape water-like spatial ripples around his axe but still misjudged force.

He accidentally launched Borthan into a tree one day.

Juno — Lightning Precision

She learned to channel lightning through her legs to boost speed.

(And shock anyone who annoyed her. Usually Miru.)

Raviix — Void Stability

He was frighteningly consistent now. Controlled.

Trexan no longer outclassed him.

Rhyka — Fold Discipline

Her folding was cleaner. Sharper.

Terrifyingly precise.

Trexan — Phase Step

He learned short-range teleport.

Half the recruits hated sparring with him now.

Miru — Wind Control

Could glide for long distances and land without crashing now.

Mostly.

Borthan — Shockwave Fists

He learned to send force through the ground, not just air.

He cracked the training floor three times.

Rylliss — Light Amplification

Resonance stable.

He now glows intentionally—not by accident.

Ogren — Magnetic Control

He no longer gets stuck to surfaces.

Now everyone else gets stuck to him.

Kario — The One Still Struggling

Eight weeks in…

Still no visible Primordial Art.

His sword was extraordinary.

His technique was clean.

His mind sharp.

But his cosmic power remained locked.

Kario felt it like a weight in his chest.

THE FINAL EXAM ANNOUNCEMENT

Khyros gathered all recruits in the arena.

"Today," he barked, "begins your Final Combat Ranking Exam."

Nerya floated above the group.

"You will fight one-on-one. Pairings will be random. Winning is valuable, but control, technique, and restraint matter just as much."

Vel-Arin raised a hand.

"Your class ranking determines your future missions, privileges, and roles."

Astrin stepped forward last, looking at each of them with quiet pride.

"You've trained for eight weeks. Now we'll see what all of you truly are."

Vexa cracked her neck.

Juno tightened her daggers.

Sen breathed deeply.

Raviix's eyes narrowed.

Kario gripped his katana nervously.

On the large holographic display, names began to shuffle.

Pairs forming.

Rivals colliding.

Destiny rearranging.

The first matchup locked in—

VEXA vs. TREXAN

The crowd gasped.

Fire vs. Void.

Emotion vs. Silence.

Unpredictability vs. Precision.

Vexa smirked at Trexan.

Trexan merely phased his hand in and out of reality.

The next match appeared…

And the next…

Until every name was drawn.

The exam was about to begin.

If you want, the next chapter (Chapter 16) will deliver:

The first tournament fights

Unexpected breakthroughs

Kario's struggle and turning point

Rivalries becoming real

Someone losing control dangerously

Just say "Chapter 15" and we'll begin the battles.
