Chapter 266 - Chapter 266 Across from The Red Keep's gate

Across from The Red Keep's gate, on an inconspicuous tall building, Littlefinger observed the comings and goings at The Red Keep through a window. He saw Tyrion appear with a group of Red Cloaks.

"I chased away a wolf, only to welcome a little lion," Littlefinger said, taking a sip of wine. Rosso Brenn refilled his glass.

Littlefinger was short and of average build but had handsome features. He had grey-green eyes, a small tuft of beard on his chin, and dark hair streaked with grey, with a mockingbird pinned to his chest.

A mockingbird, also known as a mimic bird, naturally imitates the calls of other birds to attract them or scare off intruders.

Rosso was calm and silent, and appeared very loyal. He had ordinary features, grey hair, a flat nose, and a square jaw, with a robust and strong physique.

"My Half-man friend must be in dire need of help now; he's even eyeing Mercenaries and savages," Littlefinger chuckled. "Not only does he need them, but the Queen also needs them. After all, these Red Cloaks followed The Imp, so what is the Queen Mother to do? I want the Kettleblack family to cooperate with them. All of King's Landing knows you are my hired knight, and they are Free Mercenaries."

Ser Rosso remained silent, like a stone. Osmon, Osney, and Osfryd Kettleblack were all Mercenaries in King's Landing, but they were actually Littlefinger's subordinates.

"I want you to monitor them; only you are the most loyal," Littlefinger told Rosso, with a gentle smile.

Ser Rosso remained unperturbed. "I believe you will see my loyalty."

"I trust you, Ser Rosso. Gold and titles, these are my gifts," Littlefinger laughed heartily. "But be prepared, King's Landing is not our home."

"Yes," Rosso nodded. Littlefinger fluttered through King's Landing like a butterfly, but his biggest problem was his lack of soldiers and prestige. How could a jester climb over the hill?

Littlefinger already vaguely felt a crisis. The northerners were marching south, and the wolf, fish, deer, and dragon were coming fiercely. Even the Kingslayer was almost beheaded. Could King's Landing truly be safe?

Even more troubling were the players in King's Landing. Littlefinger knew The Imp suspected him, and as for The Spider, no one knew his thoughts.

"The Vale, only the Vale is my home," Littlefinger reminded himself. "I need to earn honor in King's Landing, then return to the Vale to manipulate that fool Lysa, and those Knights of the Vale, and the merchants of the Vale, with a suitable status."

"But can they fulfill my wishes? The Imp, The Boy Blacksmith." Littlefinger was also somewhat anxious.

The riots on the Claw Peninsula and the fall of The Twins were outside Littlefinger's plans. The Twins, especially the Claw Peninsula, were not far from King's Landing. He had not anticipated The Boy Blacksmith's ferocity and brilliant military tactics. If King's Landing fell, wouldn't all his hopes be a fleeting dream?

Littlefinger thought it over and over. Even if he escaped King's Landing, he would need to take some valuable people with him. The Old Wolf was not very realistic, but that silly Miss Sansa might be.

"How is Miss Sansa?"

"She is beaten and intimidated by the King, weeping all day long."

"Poor girl," Littlefinger murmured. "It seems Sansa hasn't discovered the truth of the matter."
