Chapter 84 - The Judgment of Roots

The Skyreaver ARC-01 descended without sound.

Not because it was silent—

But because the land below didn't allow noise to exist.

Aetherion Vale.

It didn't feel like a place.

It felt like something… aware.

The moment they landed—

The ground reacted.

Soft bioluminescent roots shifted beneath their feet, adjusting… sensing.

Judging.

Elaris stepped out first.

Kael still in her arms.

Unmoving.

The air changed instantly.

Every plant.

Every vine.

Every glowing structure—

Turned toward them.

Watching.

Xyren's voice dropped.

"…We're being scanned."

"No," one of Kael's guards corrected quietly.

"We're being evaluated."

💀

A pulse rippled through the ground.

Then—

It appeared.

Not walking.

Not arriving.

Forming.

From roots.

From light.

From the very ground itself—

A figure rose.

Tall.

Calm.

Ancient.

Half-body composed of organic matter—

Vines, bark, glowing veins of green energy.

The other half—

Almost human.

But too perfect.

Too still.

Eyes glowing faint emerald.

Emotionless.

Endless.

💀 The Verdant Sovereign

Silence fell instantly.

Even the air stilled.

Its gaze moved—

Slowly—

Across all of them.

Then stopped.

On Kael.

"…He returns," the Sovereign spoke.

Voice not loud—

But everywhere.

Inside the mind.

Inside the bones.

Elaris stepped forward.

Instinctively protective.

"He's dying," she said.

Direct.

No fear.

The Sovereign's gaze shifted to her.

A pause.

Long enough to feel like judgment.

"…And yet… you carry him as if he belongs to you."

Elaris didn't look away.

"He does."

💀🔥

The ground pulsed.

Stronger this time.

The Sovereign tilted its head slightly.

Curiosity.

Interest.

"…Not by origin," it said."…but by choice."

Xyren watched closely.

Analyzing every reaction.

The Sovereign stepped closer—

Or rather—

The ground moved it forward.

It stopped inches from Kael.

A faint glow spread from its hand—

Scanning him.

Reading him.

Then—

It paused.

"…Corruption," it murmured.

"…And amplification already begun."

Elaris's grip tightened.

"What does that mean?"

The Sovereign looked at her again.

"It means… if I save him…"

A beat.

"…he will not return as the one you know."

Silence.

Elaris didn't hesitate.

"Do it anyway."

The Sovereign studied her.

Longer this time.

Deeper.

Then—

Its gaze shifted.

To Stormfang.

Still resting beside Kael.

Faintly humming.

"…The blade remembers," the Sovereign said.

Suddenly—

Stormfang trembled.

A low vibration spread through the ground.

Then—

Without anyone touching it—

The sword lifted.

Floating.

Elaris's eyes widened slightly.

The blade turned—

Slowly—

Then moved toward her.

Stopping right in front of her hand.

Xyren froze.

"…That's not normal."

The guards exchanged looks.

Tension rising.

Elaris hesitated for just a second—

Then gripped it.

The moment she touched Stormfang—

⚡ LIGHTNING ERUPTED ⚡

But it didn't attack her.

Didn't reject her.

It synced.

Perfectly.

The storm energy flowed around her like it recognized her.

Accepted her.

The Sovereign's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Interesting."

A faint whisper echoed—

Not from the Sovereign.

From the blade itself.

"Protect… him…"

💀

Elaris's breath caught.

"…I am," she whispered.

The blade pulsed again.

Stronger.

"Not… here."

Silence.

Everyone felt it.

Xyren's eyes sharpened.

"…It's guiding her."

The Sovereign straightened.

Understanding now.

"…Stormfang has chosen."

Elaris looked up.

"What does that mean?"

The answer came—

Cold.

Absolute.

"Only those bound to him… may decide his fate."

A pause.

"And now… you are one of them."

💀🔥

The ground shifted again.

A path opened.

Deep into the glowing forest.

Alive.

Moving.

Waiting.

The Sovereign stepped aside.

"The Heart of Virelith lies beyond."

Then—

Its gaze sharpened.

"But not all may enter."

Instant tension.

The guards stepped forward.

Weapons ready.

"Define 'all'," one of them said.

The Sovereign didn't even look at him.

"The blade chooses the path."

Stormfang pulsed again in Elaris's hand.

Then pointed.

Forward.

At her.

At Kael.

At Xyren.

And—

Stopped.

The rest—

Left behind.

💀

"…Split team," Xyren muttered.

The guards didn't like it.

Not one bit.

"We're not letting her go alone with the boss," one snapped.

Elaris didn't turn.

Didn't argue.

She just adjusted her grip on Kael.

Held him closer.

"…I'm not alone."

Stormfang crackled in her hand.

And for a brief second—

Kael's fingers twitched again.

Stronger this time.

The Sovereign's voice echoed one last time—

"Enter… if you are ready to lose what you love…"

"…or change it forever."

The forest opened.

Dark.

Beautiful.

Alive.

And without hesitation—

Elaris stepped forward.

Into judgment.
