Chapter 440 - Before the Gods & The Fox Empress

After leaving the restored realm of forgotten gods, Kael Veyris and Sun Wukong stepped across another page of reality.

But this time…

The page was older than mythology itself. The world they arrived in had no Olympus.

No heaven.

No pantheon.

Only primordial beings.

Gigantic titans walked across continents like mountains that had learned to move. Oceans formed in their footsteps. Lightning storms circled their bodies.

Wukong whistled.

Well… that's big.

One titan lifted its head.

It was larger than entire star systems.

WHO ENTERS THE FIRST WORLD.

The titan's voice shook space.

Kael answered calmly.

I am merely visiting.

Wukong leaned over.

You say that like you're not the strongest thing here.

The titan studied Kael.

Ancient power flowed from it—older than gods, older than worship.

These lands belong to the Firstborn Titans.

Wukong grinned.

Yeah And.

The titan swung a mountain-sized fist toward them.

Before it could move an inch—

Reality stopped.

Not frozen.

Just refusing to continue the motion.

Kael lowered his hand.

I did not come here to fight.

The titan's eyes widened slightly.

Because it realized something terrifying.

The laws of its world were listening to Kael, not it.

Slowly, the titan bowed its head.

Then walk freely, traveler.

Wukong blinked.

You just intimidated something older than the gods.

Kael shrugged.

They're reasonable. As they traveled deeper into the ancient world, the air suddenly changed.

Soft laughter echoed through the forest.

Wukong instantly turned.

Oh I know that laugh.

From the shadows stepped a woman with golden eyes and flowing silk robes.

Behind her…

Nine fox tails swayed slowly.

She was beautiful.

Dangerously beautiful.

She bowed slightly.

I didn't expect the Monkey King to visit.

Wukong sighed.

Of course it's you.

Standing before them was Daji.

Her eyes moved to Kael.

Then something unusual happened.

For the first time in centuries…

Daji hesitated.

Because the man in front of her felt like an entire universe pretending to be human.

And who might you be she asked softly.

Kael answered simply.

Kael Veyris.

Her tails flicked.

She felt something strange.

His existence wasn't part of the story.

He felt like the one reading it.Wukong crossed his arms.

Alright fox, what are you planning.

Daji smiled.

Planning.

She circled Kael slowly.

I'm curious.

Her eyes studied him.

You don't belong to this mythology.

Kael nodded.

That is correct.

She leaned closer.

And yet you walk through stories like they're roads.

Wukong scratched his head.

Yeah he kinda does that.

Daji laughed softly.

Interesting.

Then she looked at Kael again.

You're stronger than the gods of this world.

Kael didn't answer.

But silence was answer enough.Daji suddenly raised a hand.

Illusions filled the sky.

Entire kingdoms appeared.

Armies.

Temples.

Golden thrones.

She was testing him.

Her power could manipulate fate itself.

But Kael simply looked at the illusion.

Then said one word.

No.

The entire illusion collapsed instantly.

Not destroyed.

Just refused by reality.

Daji froze.

Her tails stiffened.

What are you.

Kael answered calmly.

Someone who protects stories.

Wukong laughed loudly.

Yeah good luck tricking him. Daji studied him quietly for a moment.

Then she smiled again.

Well, Architect…

Wukong blinked.

You already figured that out.

She ignored him.

Daji bowed slightly toward Kael.

Since you are traveling mythologies… would you like to see something interesting.

Kael looked at her.

What.

She pointed upward.

Above the sky…

Beyond the stars…

There was another layer of story.

A realm where ancient fox spirits ruled entire dimensions.

Even older than her.

Even stronger.

Daji's eyes sparkled with mischief.

A kingdom of nine-tailed emperors.

Wukong grinned.

Oh that sounds fun.

Kael looked toward the sky.

Then nodded once.

Lead the way.

Daji smiled wider.

Careful, Architect.

Her tails flicked behind her.

Some foxes bite.

Wukong laughed.

Oh I like her already.

Together, the three figures stepped into the next mythological layer.

Where the Fox Spirit Empire waited.
