Chapter 10 - Lost In a Good Book

Sometimes I don't know what I'd do with myself if I wasn't good enough to be a talented horror writer. To give readers a sense of pure entertainment only to get lost in a good book. To help them escape the real world and into the minds of young reader's imagination.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate my day job at Gary's Grocery. It's just I want to do something with my life than keep doing the same old routine and not getting any credit for doing a job well done.

I mustn't let my imagination get carried away with me. I usually try to forget about everything going on at Gary's Grocery. And try to do my job to make a living and forget about everything happening in Different Place. To be at peace with myself and just get over real-life troubles.

It was a little after midnight, when I fell asleep at my kitchen table in my apartment. After those chocolate-sprinkled donuts in a pink girl scout cookies box had put me in a little coma.

The lights in my kitchen ceiling started flickering on and off, but stayed on finally. I didn't know what time it was. I knew it must be late. Because it was dark outside my closed window curtains in my little apartment.

I got out of my chair and took a peek out the kitchen window. There was nothing fishy going on. I wanted to find out what was in those chocolate donuts from the girl scout seller from earlier today.

I didn't have much time to do any research. Because it was late and I had to get some sleep. I had an early day shift tomorrow at Gary's Grocery.

I thought everything was going to get better. But as I walked down the hall in my little rental house, the ceiling above me started creaking and groaning. At first, I thought I heard footsteps clonking on top of the rooftop.

Then, it settled and got quiet again. I didn't know what was real or what was part of my crazy thoughts? Whatever was getting me spooked, wasn't going to make my life get any better.

I went to my bedroom down the hall. Opening the bedroom door, I gasped when I saw someone in a dark hooded cloaked figure standing in front of my computer desk in my bedroom!

"What? What are you doing in my room?" I stammered, and closed my bedroom door, quickly. The shdaowy cloaked monster turned around from typing something into my desktop computer.

I saw he carried black leathered notebook with a scary-looking skull head on the front cover. "It's time for you to submit your scary story submission to the Sorcerer's Storyteller's Club meeting on this Saturday," snarled the shadowy cloaked figure, angrily at me.

I felt sick with dread. I wanted to sit down at my desk chair before I passed out. "I--I don't have it finished," I said, sadly. This mad the shadowy cloaked creature roar loudly and pound his fists against his strong, bare chest.

"That is no excuse, young man!" yelled the shadowy cloaked monster before me. I fell to my knees and bend down next to my bed mattress and covered my hands into my face. And let out an embarrassing cry of defeat.

"Give me another week or less!" I begged, with my hands buried in my face. "I just need to make sure I'm writing a really, good, scary novel for my readers," I suggested, trying to make a promise.

"I'll give you four days to complete your novel submission for the Sorcerer's Storyteller's Club meeting on Halloween, next Saturday! Or I will take your talented writing craft away from you, forever!" snapped the angry shadowy creature.

I blinked and looked at my computer desk. The shadowy figure had vanished before me!
