Chang had his head lowered as a sign of respect and obedience toward the tribe leader. When questioned, he replied honestly, "I want to make Fang my mate."
He pressed his forehead against the cold floor. "Please grant us your permission."
When marrying a beastman from another tribe, one had to ask the tribe leader for permission. Otherwise, the marriage would not be acknowledged by the tribe.
By requesting to marry Fang, Chang wanted to quickly shut down the gossip spreading among the tribe—unless Fang became upset and did something irreversible.
Leader Zu's eyes held complicated emotions.
Chang was the strongest male in their tribe and had a high chance of becoming the next leader. Naturally, he did not want to damage their relationship.
