154. Realm of Wings and Worry
"Are you sure you're going alone?" Alpha asked yet again, golden eyes narrowed, arms crossed like a statue of pure suspicion. His tail twitched behind him. "Because if Godmother even looks at you wrong—"
"I can handle her," Marcelline said coolly, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Her wings shimmered faintly even in the soft dawn light. "She doesn't summon anyone unless it's serious. And when it is serious…" She gave a sly grin. "…she doesn't appreciate extra muscles or growling at her. Or jealous beasts arguing about me."
Paradus folded his arms, nostrils flaring. "Exactly why we should come. She's strict, ruthless, and likes throwing impossible tasks at you."
Alpha huffed. "And if she gets angry—well, last time she almost sent you back here in one piece and nothing else."
Marcelline rolled her eyes. "I know. I survived. And I always do."
Paradus raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed by her bravado. "You piss her off for sport, don't you?"
"That's talent, thank you very much," Marcelline replied with a tiny bow.
The brothers exchanged a look. One that said we love her, but we are terrified.
After several minutes of relentless pleading, nagging, and subtle guilt-tripping—Alpha pretending to look devastated at breakfast, Paradus dramatically stretching and pretending to yawn and faint—Marcelline finally sighed.
"Fine. You're coming. But I'm not holding your hands the entire way," she said, crossing her arms.
Alpha grinned victoriously. Paradus smirked. "We always behave," he said, voice dripping with mock innocence.

The world shifted.
Soft golden light spilled across floating gardens, crystal-clear rivers of starlight ran beneath translucent bridges, and gentle fairy bells chimed in the distance. Trees with glimmering leaves stretched into the skies. Flowers hovered mid-air, blooming in rhythm with the wind.
Marcelline entered first, her full angelic aura unfurling, light cascading like liquid gold, her wings spread wide. She turned her devilish edge off—just for now—and let the warmth of the realm wash over her.
"ELLI!!"
Tiny figures with iridescent wings burst from every direction. Fairy children, their cheeks glowing, ran straight for her, giggling and tumbling into her.
"She's back!!"
"She smells like stars!"
"Elli! Elli!"
Marcelline laughed, her heart warming. Kneeling, she hugged them all, pressing gentle kisses to their foreheads. "I missed you, little sparks. Did you behave while I was gone?"
The fairies squealed in unison. "We tried!! But… we missed you too much!!"
Alpha and Paradus, now in humanoid forms, were greeted next.
"LORD ALPHA!"
"LORD PARADUS!"
Alpha crouched carefully, letting the children climb into his arms. His golden eyes softened, and the protective edges melted. Paradus simply smiled, that perfect, disarming charm of his radiating across the courtyard. Children gawked, whispering about how handsome he looked.
"Paradus! You smell like… flowers?" one tiny fairy asked, nose wrinkled but smiling.
Paradus chuckled. "I always smell like flowers. And starlight. Occasionally a hint of chaos."
Marcelline laughed, elbowing Alpha lightly. "See? I told you they'd love you… eventually."
Alpha muttered, "Eventually is not now."
---
The larger members of the angelic and fairy communities began to arrive, sensing the presence of their champions.
"Oh my stars… Marcelline!" a young male angel whispered, bowing slightly, wings trembling. "You—You look… radiant. Beyond… anything…" He could barely form the words, cheeks flushed.
"She's… more beautiful than I imagined…" another male fairy mumbled, stammering as he tripped over a floating pebble.
Alpha and Paradus exchanged long-suffering sighs, shaking their heads with quiet defeat. "Again," Alpha muttered. "The world loses its mind every time she appears."
Paradus smirked. "And still, we're the ones protecting her."
Marcelline smiled at them warmly, brushing a tiny fairy's hair away from her glowing face. "Hello, hello! I see you've grown! And look at you, all tall and shiny. Who's been misbehaving while I was gone?"
The fairies giggled, pointing at each other. One bold male angel stepped forward, bowing low, face beet-red. "Lady Marcelline… it's… it's an honor to see you. I—I mean… you always appear… you're… luminous."
Marcelline chuckled, crouching to meet his eye level. "Luminous, huh? I like that. And you, sir?" She gestured to another angel, who stammered in reply, bowing so quickly he nearly tipped forward.
"I—uh—I mean… my wings… they've never… witnessed anyone… like you." His cheeks burned bright pink, his eyes darting shyly.
Alpha pinched the bridge of his nose. Paradus shook his head with a faint smirk. "Yep. Still happens every time," Paradus muttered quietly.
Meanwhile, Marcelline leaned back, letting the laughter and warmth wash over her. Fairies and angels laughed, teased, and gently jostled her, some tugging at her hands, some hugging her wings.
"Alpha, Paradus," Marcelline said, voice calm but amused, "see what you're missing out on? You don't even blush half as hard as these little men over there."
Alpha growled, hiding his flush. Paradus only smiled that charming, disarming smile, shaking his head. "Protective and surrounded by adoration… she's impossible," Paradus whispered.
But despite the blushes, giggles, and shy greetings, both brothers never left her side. Protective, proud, unyielding. They stayed alert, scanning the crowd and the realm, wings ready, senses sharp.
Because beneath the laughter, the adoration, and the joyful reunions…
Something serious awaited.
And somewhere high above, Godmother's eyes were upon them all.
