Jacqueline tried sitting up immediately, but a sharp pain shot through her forehead.
"Easy, miss," the nurse said as she rushed to her side. "You just woke up. Don't stress yourself."
"Where's Barbara?" Jacqueline asked anxiously.
"She's in another ward. She's stable and recovering."
Jacqueline sighed in relief.
"Can I see her?"
"Not yet. The doctor wants you to rest."
The nurse left after checking her vitals.
A few minutes later, Jacqueline's phone vibrated on the bedside table. Unknown Number.
She hesitated before answering.
"Hello?"
A deep masculine voice spoke from the other end.
"You survived."
Jacqueline frowned.
"Who is this?"
"That doesn't matter. What matters is that the accident wasn't an accident."
Her heart skipped a beat.
"What are you talking about?"
"The brakes were cut."
Before she could ask another question, the call ended.
Jacqueline stared at the phone in shock.
