It might be different, so he tried to do it with intent. He willed it, conveying his intent to use or learn this Epic Class Stone. Nothing happened; it showed no reaction to him, but the stone felt magical to him.
His greed to learn to use the golden stone was so big. He risked his life and almost got himself killed. He wanted to reap his reward, yet it was not responding to him. He ended up wasting his time on this stone.
