Chapter 100: Graduation Day
POV: Sam Barton
Principal Weber's graduation speech about resilience and survival is unintentionally perfect given how many times the class of 2013 has literally survived supernatural threats.
"You've faced challenges that would break lesser students," Weber says, completely unaware of the irony. "Gas leaks, tragic accidents, losses that tested your strength. But you persevered. You survived. And today, you graduate ready to face whatever the world throws at you."
Matt whispers to Tyler: "Man, we really did survive a lot of weird stuff."
Tyler, who knows exactly what they survived, just nods.
Names are called alphabetically. Sam Barton walks across the stage, accepting his diploma from Principal Weber with handshake that feels surreal after everything.
Caroline Forbes receives hers from Sheriff Liz, who's crying with pride and relief. She almost lost Caroline to vampires, werewolves, and Expression-powered massacres. Seeing her daughter graduate is victory Liz never took for granted.

Caroline gives him a necklace with vervain-filled locket. "For protection. Physical and symbolic. Wear it on the island."
Sam gives her a key to his estate. "This is yours. My home is your home, always. Whether I'm here or not."
They make love with desperate tenderness, both terrified this could be farewell despite promises otherwise.
Afterward, Caroline cries against his chest. "Come back to me. The island, Silas, the cure—none of it matters if you die there. Promise me you'll survive."
"I love you," Sam whispers. "That's stronger than any curse. I'll survive because I have you to come home to. That's non-negotiable."
She kisses him fiercely. "Good. Because I'm planning our entire future, and it requires you alive."
They fall asleep tangled together, holding onto the moment before separation.
Dawn breaks too quickly.
Sam kisses sleeping Caroline goodbye, leaving a note on her nightstand: "Graduated yesterday. Saving the world today. Back soon. Love you forever. - Sam"
He meets the expedition team at the docks—Stefan, Rebekah, Connor, Bonnie, Klaus, and his four remaining clones manifesting in the pre-dawn light.
"Ready to fight immortality itself, graduate?" Klaus asks with grin that suggests he's actually enjoying this.
"Let's stop Silas and find this cure," Sam replies, boarding the boat. "Then maybe I can have that normal summer Caroline wants."
The boat pulls away from Mystic Falls toward Nova Scotia and whatever ancient horrors wait on Silas's island.
Caroline wakes to empty bed and note, clutching the paper like lifeline.
"Come home, Sam Barton," she whispers to the empty room.
And somewhere on a cursed island protected by two-thousand-year-old magic, Silas waits in his tomb, connected to Sam through mysteries that predate vampirism itself.
