Videl's heart was still pounding wildly.
She wasn't sure whether it was because she had almost fallen from the sky just now—or because of the sturdy, warm embrace that had caught her at the last moment.
Gohan's face was even redder than before.
The faint fragrance coming from the girl in his arms made the usually calm and studious teenager feel completely flustered.
"It's… it's nothing," Gohan said awkwardly.
He slowly descended and carefully released his hands.
For a brief moment, the atmosphere between them turned subtly awkward.
Just then, a cheerful voice rang out from nearby.
"Yo! Gohan, working hard, aren't you?"
Both of them turned toward the voice.
A man in an orange martial arts uniform walked out from the trees, carrying a massive log on his shoulder. His hairstyle looked oddly similar to Gohan's.
Beside him was a much smaller version, also wearing an orange gi, struggling to drag a short tree trunk.
It was Goku and Goten.
"Dad!" Gohan's face instantly lit up, and all the earlier awkwardness vanished.
"H-hello, Uncle!" Videl greeted politely, though her eyes lingered on Goku's youthful face.
She then glanced at Gohan.
…These two looked more like brothers than father and son.
"And this is?" Goku asked curiously, setting down the log and looking at Videl.
"Dad, this is my classmate, Videl," Gohan quickly explained.
"She wants to learn Flight so she can participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament."
"Oh! Flight!" Goku laughed loudly.
"That's great! The more people who join, the livelier the tournament gets!"
He walked around Videl once, nodding as he examined her.
"Mm, good physical condition. You've got talent."
Videl felt oddly nervous under his gaze.
"But… Uncle Goku," she said hesitantly,
"I don't think I can learn it."
"I can't feel… that Ki everyone talks about."
"Can't feel it?" Goku scratched his head, clearly puzzled.
"Isn't Ki just inside your body?"
"If you focus, doesn't it just come out?"
His tone was so casual, as if he were saying something obvious like breathing.
Videl's mouth twitched slightly.
So this was the difference between a genius and a normal person…
"But I—"
"No 'buts,'" Goku interrupted her.
"You're just thinking too much."
"Flying isn't that complicated."
He pointed up at the sky.
"Do you want to go up there?"
"Yes," Videl replied instinctively.
"Well then, that's enough," Goku grinned.
"Don't think about anything else. Just think about one thing."
"I want to fly."
"I want to go into the sky."
"Let that feeling fill your whole body."
"Come on, try again."
Goku's words were simple—almost unreasonable.
But for some reason, Videl chose to trust him.
She closed her eyes again.
This time, she didn't search for Ki or think about energy flow.
Her mind became blank.
Only one thought remained.
Fly.
I want to fly.
Like a bird soaring freely through the blue sky.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
A faint but unmistakable warm current suddenly rose from her lower abdomen.
Her body felt light.
Videl opened her eyes in shock.
Her feet… were no longer touching the ground.
She was floating—about ten centimeters off the ground.
"I… I…"
She was too excited to finish the sentence.
"See?" Goku laughed.
"You got it."
Gohan stood nearby, completely stunned.
He had spent half a day explaining theory, even sharing Ki—
and yet a few simple words from his dad worked better?
"Careful! Don't get too excited!" Gohan quickly reminded her.
"Feel that power and control it with your thoughts."
Encouraged by her first success, Videl focused again.
She wobbled in midair.
Twisting. Swaying.
Like a baby learning to walk, she struggled to keep her balance half a meter above the ground.
Her posture was awkward—but she was flying on her own.
"I did it!"
"Gohan! Uncle Goku! I really flew!"
Videl waved her fists excitedly, her face glowing with joy and accomplishment.
Goku smiled with satisfaction, picked up the log again, and turned away.
"Alright, Gohan, Goten—back to training!"
"Oh!" Goten hurried after him on his short legs.
Gohan watched his father's broad back, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.
A warm feeling filled his chest.
This was his dad.
Always strong. Always reliable.
"Gohan."
Videl floated over clumsily, her face still flushed.
"Thank you… and please thank Uncle Goku for me too."
"It's nothing," Gohan said sincerely.
"This was all your own effort."
Then Videl suddenly remembered something.
Her eyes sparkled as she looked at him.
"Didn't you say you also have a teacher?"
"…Teacher Loren."
"Can I… can I meet him?"
There was a hint of nervousness in her voice.
As Mr. Satan's daughter, Videl knew better than anyone that her father wasn't the one who defeated Cell.
She had reviewed the remaining footage countless times.
At the end of the battle, the name Loren had been shouted.
Gohan hesitated.
His teacher's temper… wasn't exactly gentle.
He hated trouble more than anything.
"Well…"
Gohan scratched his head.
"My teacher doesn't really like meeting outsiders."
"Please, Gohan!"
Videl clasped her hands together, practically begging.
"I'll just look from afar. I promise I won't disturb him!"
Seeing her like this, Gohan finally gave in.
"Alright."
"I'll take you to try."
"But I can't promise my teacher will want to see you."
"Mm-hmm!" Videl nodded vigorously, like a chick pecking at rice.
"That's great!"
She looked at Gohan with sparkling eyes.
"Gohan, you're really a good person!"
Gohan turned his head away, embarrassed.
"So… should we go now?"
"Mm!"
