Eugene was quite shaky when he put in their offer--mainly because it wasn't his own money, despite being the one managing it. After factoring out the money they would need for a slight renovation, landscaping, and furniture, they managed to contribute half the house's price, and borrowed the rest from Arthur's grandparents.

Shirley meticulously drafted a contract, specifying how much they needed to pay each year if they wanted the debt to be gone in five years. It made Eugene fully realize what a blessing a zero percent interest rate was.
