Chapter 24 - Chapter twenty four : The meeting after longtemps

it was not an ordinary day

it was an ending.

It was not an ordinary day.

It was an ending.

The end of a long road paved with pain…

And the beginning of one far more unforgiving.

William stood at the center of the rocky clearing, his breathing steady—far too steady for someone who had endured what he had.

His body carried the marks of months of relentless training.

Yet there was no exhaustion in him.

Only control.

He was no longer the same young man who had entered this place.

His features had sharpened.

His gaze had deepened—

As if it could see beyond what was visible.

And his body…

It was not merely strong.

It was disciplined.

Refined.

Across from him stood the old man.

As calm as ever.

As unreadable as ever.

"Today…"

The old man's voice was low, yet it carried an undeniable weight.

"…your training ends."

William said nothing.

He didn't need to.

He understood.

This…

Was the final test.

The old man gestured lightly toward the ground.

Scattered stones lay everywhere—

Different shapes.

Different sizes.

"You will use these."

A brief pause.

"Your task is simple…"

He slowly raised his hand—

Then closed his eyes.

"Hit me."

Silence.

William's expression didn't change.

But the air…

Did.

"My feet will not move," the old man continued calmly.

"However…"

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

"…do not mistake that for weakness."

William exhaled quietly.

Then bent down and picked up several stones.

This time…

They were not just stones.

They were extensions of his will.

He closed his eyes.

Vision was no longer necessary.

Everything around him…

Became clear in another way.

The old man's presence…

His breathing…

Even the subtle pressure surrounding him—

William could feel it all.

He raised his hand.

"Move."

It wasn't a sound.

It was a decision.

The stones shot forward—

But in the next instant—

They veered off course.

As if they had collided with something invisible.

William frowned slightly.

"Again."

He murmured to himself.

He focused harder.

"Solidify."

The stones trembled mid-air.

Something within them shifted.

Their density…

Changed.

They felt heavier.

Sharper.

Then they launched again—

Faster.

Stronger.

But once more—

They were deflected.

They fell.

Failure.

A drop of sweat slid down his temple.

But there was no frustration in his eyes.

Only understanding.

"…Not enough."

He opened his eyes briefly.

Looked at the stones.

Then at the old man.

"You're forcing it," the old man said calmly, without opening his eyes.

"You still think this is about power."

William's gaze sharpened.

"Isn't it?" he asked quietly.

The old man chuckled.

"If it were… you would have succeeded long ago."

Silence.

William closed his eyes again.

This time—

He didn't focus on the stones.

He focused on the space between them.

The path.

The resistance.

"…It's not the stones that need to change…"

he whispered.

"It's the path."

The old man's smile deepened slightly.

"Good."

William raised his hand once more.

Several stones lifted into the air.

But this time—

There was no rush.

No force.

Only presence.

"Go."

They moved.

Smoothly.

Cleanly.

They cut through the invisible pressure—

Without resistance.

One stone…

Drew closer.

Closer—

Until—

It stopped.

A breath away from the old man's face.

Silence.

The old man opened his eyes.

He stared at the stone for a moment.

Then shifted his gaze to William.

"…Barely."

He said calmly.

"But you passed."

The stones fell.

William lowered his hand slowly.

"…That pressure…"

he said, his voice steady,

"…what was it?"

The old man tilted his head slightly.

"My will."

A brief pause.

"You weren't attacking me," he continued.

"You were trying to go through me."

William absorbed the words in silence.

"So I didn't break it…"

"No."

The old man shook his head.

"You bypassed it."

William exhaled slowly.

"…I see."

"Do you?"

The old man asked, a faint edge in his voice.

William met his gaze.

"…Not completely."

The old man smiled.

"Good."

He turned away slightly.

"Then you still have room to grow."

A pause.

"Your training… is over."

This time—

There was no doubt in those words.

Hours later—

William stood at the edge of that isolated place.

For the first time in months…

He looked at the world beyond.

The air felt different.

The sounds…

Were unfamiliar.

Even the light—

Seemed distant.

"What will you do now?"

The old man asked from behind him.

William didn't turn.

"There's somewhere I need to go."

The old man nodded.

"I thought so."

A moment of silence passed.

"…Will you survive out there?" the old man asked.

William paused.

Then replied calmly:

"I didn't train to survive."

A brief silence.

"I trained… to act."

The old man's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Be careful, then."

William took a step forward.

Then another.

And just like that—

He left.

Not as someone returning to the world…

But as someone who would reshape it.

Days later—

He arrived.

A fortified settlement.

Order.

Structure.

Different from the chaos outside.

An Order.

William stopped at the entrance.

His gaze steady.

Guards noticed him.

"…Halt."

One of them stepped forward.

"State your purpose."

William looked at him.

Calm.

Unshaken.

"I'm here to see someone."

"…Name?"

"…Victoria."

The guards exchanged glances.

"That's not—"

Before the guard could finish—

A voice came from within.

"…Let him pass."

They froze.

Then stepped aside immediately.

William walked in.

And then—

He saw her.

Victoria.

Standing among a group of women.

Composed.

Strong.

Different.

But the moment her eyes met his—

Everything shattered.

"…William…?"

Her voice trembled.

Disbelief.

Hope.

Fear—

All at once.

She took a step forward.

Then another.

"…Is it really you?"

William didn't answer immediately.

He simply looked at her.

Long.

As if trying to understand something.

Then she ran.

No hesitation.

No restraint.

Tears streamed down her face.

She stopped in front of him—

Breathing unevenly.

"I—"

Her voice broke.

"I thought…"

She couldn't finish.

"…Where were you?"

The question came out weak.

Fragile.

Months of pain hidden behind it.

William remained silent for a moment.

"…Training."

His answer was short.

Direct.

But something in his tone—

Made her flinch.

"…That's it?"

she whispered.

"…That's all you're going to say?"

He looked at her.

"What do you want me to say?"

Her eyes widened.

"I—"

She hesitated.

"…I thought you were dead."

Silence.

"I waited…"

Her voice trembled.

"I kept waiting…"

Her fists clenched slightly.

"And you just… come back like this?"

William's gaze softened—just slightly.

"I came back."

"…That's not enough!"

Her voice rose for the first time.

Tears fell freely now.

"It's not enough, William!"

Silence fell around them.

People were watching.

But neither of them cared.

"…I was alone."

she whispered.

"…I had to become someone else just to survive."

Her voice broke again.

"…And you weren't there."

William looked away for a moment.

His chest tightened.

"…I know."

She froze.

"…Do you?"

He looked back at her.

"…No."

Silence.

"…But I will."

Her breath caught.

"…What does that even mean?"

William stepped closer.

"It means…"

A brief pause.

"…I'm not the same anymore."

Her expression trembled.

"…Neither am I."

Silence.

Long.

Heavy.

"…I missed you."

she whispered.

William exhaled slowly.

"…I'm here now."

But even as he said it—

Something felt off.

Something unspoken.

This reunion…

Was not what either of them had imagined.

And deep down—

They both knew.

This was not the end of their story.

It was only—

The beginning of something far more complicated.
