Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Anxiety

Diamond woke up feeling refreshed and with a clear mind.

She quickly got out of bed, took her bath, and was back in bed with her laptop.

She decided to do some research about the company and also practice some common interview questions. She was quite impressed by the company's high status; they had comfortably maneuvered their way to the top.

After a few hours of researching, she decided to rest and give in to the now loud rumbling sound of her stomach.

She quickly made her way downstairs and to the kitchen. Thankfully, she found some leftover food they had stored in the refrigerator. She quickly took it out and microwaved it, and soon she was munching on the food.

She had lots of time before she needed to get back to her research, so she decided to do some cleaning around the house. She swept and mopped the upstairs floor and then the downstairs floor, which she didn't find stressful at all considering she spent most of her time either lying down or relaxing. She felt like she really needed to stretch a little.

After she was done, she crashed on the parlor sofa and decided to get back to work. It now dawned on her that her interview was tomorrow. The more she thought about it, the more anxious she got.

"It's just an interview," she told herself, trying to stay calm.

Suddenly, the door swung open. "Tanya," she gasped as she held her chest.

She had been so engrossed in her research that she hadn't noticed the time.

"Hey, girl," Tanya said as she strolled inside the house. "Busy, huh?"

"Yeah, just doing some research and practicing," Diamond replied.

"Okay, let's see what you got," Tanya said as she sat on the sofa. "So you're gonna imagine me as your interviewer, and I'm gonna ask you a few questions."

Diamond nodded, took a deep breath, and spoke. "Okay."

After a few moments of questions and answers, Tanya was quite impressed and satisfied with Diamond's responses. She wore a stern look to conceal her impressed expression before letting out a huge smile.

"Well done, Diamond," she said as she clapped frantically. "I must say, I'm impressed."

"Really?" Diamond exclaimed excitedly.

"Absolutely," Tanya replied.

"It's best I don't get my hopes up," Diamond said as her facial expression slowly changed to a sad one.

"Hey, you are going to ace it," Tanya said with a reassuring smile.

"Well, I stopped by the food store and got some groceries," Tanya said as she raised the bags of groceries.

"Great," Diamond exclaimed, holding her stomach, which was becoming impatient.

She helped Tanya carry the groceries into the kitchen and they began to cook.

Diamond loved cooking; it was one of the things she did in her leisure time, as it helped her relax and release tension, but the reverse was the case today as she couldn't get her mind off her interview tomorrow.

She reassured herself once more and decided to focus on the task at hand.

Carefully chopping the vegetables, she emptied them into the pot of rice.

Not wanting to think about the interview because of the anxiety it came with, she resolved to watching videos on her phone — which was also one of the things she did in her leisure time, and to release tension. Luckily enough, that seemed to work, and soon she was laughing away her worries.

"Food is ready," she heard Tanya announce from the dining room. That's when it dawned on her that she was so engrossed in the videos that she had forgotten the food. Thankfully, she had Tanya.

"Thank you," she told Tanya as she lazily moved toward the dining room where her food was being served, and began to eat.

They helped each other clean up, and with their usual "good night," they retired to their rooms, although Diamond didn't feel like sleeping.

She kept tossing and turning as she couldn't help but imagine different scenarios playing in her head.

She finally resolved to sleep, as she had a long day tomorrow.

She unwaveringly shoved every other thought to the back of her mind and shut her eyes as she was soon carried away to the land of dreams.
