Chapter 40 - First move

A large crimson magic circle suddenly appeared on the door. Moments later, four smaller circles manifested around it. One after another, the smaller circles moved toward the larger one, locking themselves into place.

The instant they connected, the entire magical formation stabilized, completely sealing the door.

As soon as the spell was completed, nearly ninety-five percent of Kim's magic power was drained away.

Sweat covered her forehead, and her legs nearly gave out beneath her. She was utterly exhausted. If Kondo and Shin hadn't been holding her up from both sides, she would have collapsed on the spot.

Seeing the magic successfully activate, a faint smile appeared on Kondo's face.

'Yes...'

Kim noticed his smile, and despite her exhaustion, happiness bloomed inside her heart.

Breathing heavily, she looked at the two of them.

"You two... can put me down now."

Kondo and Shin carefully lowered her to the floor.

Looking at her, Kondo said softly,

"Kim, you did an amazing job."

Kim simply smiled in response.

Kondo then turned toward Shin.

"Shin."

Shin looked at him.

"Do exactly as I told you. Stay with Kim."

However, before he could say anything else—

BOOM!

The hotel's main entrance exploded.

Everyone instinctively turned toward the source of the blast.

Smoke quickly spread throughout the hall.

As the smoke slowly cleared, six figures could be seen standing amidst the rubble.

Surprisingly, no one panicked.

There were no screams.

No chaos.

Everything remained strangely calm, as though nothing unusual had happened.

Yirina swept her gaze across the hall and immediately sensed that something was wrong.

Dolt looked around as well.

What he saw was completely different from what he had predicted.

Placing a hand on his chin, he muttered,

"Something's wrong. None of this is happening the way I expected."

The guests continued staring at the six figures, assuming they were merely ordinary people.

Then suddenly—

"D-D... Demons!!"

A man who had noticed Dolt's horns screamed at the top of his lungs.

The moment those words echoed throughout the hall, everyone's attention shifted toward the six intruders.

And instantly, they understood.

The people standing before them were not humans.

They were demons.

Panic erupted.

People began running for their lives, desperately fleeing through the back entrance. The maids and Vold immediately began helping everyone evacuate.

Kondo, Kim, and Shin silently watched the scene unfold.

The commotion became so loud that the door to King Veld's room suddenly opened.

King Veld, Sam, the butler, Alice, Yen, and King Rose all stepped outside.

Standing near the staircase, they looked down at the chaos below, completely unaware of what had happened.

Then King Rose's gaze landed on the six figures standing at the entrance.

The moment he saw them, his eyes widened in horror.

It was as though he had recognized them immediately.

In a trembling voice, he whispered,

"D-Demons..."

Hearing those words, everyone turned toward him.

Yen frowned.

"How can you be so certain that they're demons?"

King Rose continued staring at the intruders.

"You may not recognize them because they're hiding their presence. But I've seen demons with my own eyes before."

His body trembled slightly.

"My fear would never lie to me."

Yen narrowed his eyes.

'Demons, huh? Why would they come here while concealing their presence? Besides, Ishita is the only member of the Holy Team here. It looks like all of us may have to fight.'

Kiora visibly paled.

"We must get His Majesty out of here immediately."

Sam silently nodded.

King Veld stroked his chin thoughtfully.

"Kiora, contact the Emperor Force immediately. Let's see whether the government's people can handle them."

Kiora looked toward Sam.

Sam nodded.

"Understood, Your Majesty."

As Sam continued watching the demons, his gaze suddenly fell upon Kondo, who was standing a short distance away.

Kondo wasn't moving.

He was simply staring at the demons.

Sam kept watching him.

Then, without warning—

Kondo jumped down to the first floor.

Sam's eyes widened.

For a brief moment, it felt as though his heart had stopped.

Tension immediately spread across his face.

Sam turned toward the butler.

"Konjo, go help Vold evacuate the others. Get Vold and the maids out of here as well."

The butler silently nodded.

"Understood."

Without another word, he leapt down and rushed to carry out Sam's orders.

By now, most of the crowd had already escaped.

Yirina turned toward Dolt.

"You said Lawine would be crying here over her child's death. But from what I can see, nothing like that happened."

Her expression turned cold.

"Or were you deceiving us?"

Even Dolt was confused.

'Impossible. Why isn't anything happening the way I predicted? My predictions have always been one hundred percent accurate. Then why...? Why didn't it happen this time?'

Looking at Yirina, Dolt replied,

"I'm just as surprised as you are. I don't understand why things turned out differently."

Yina crossed her arms.

"Regardless, there's nothing we can do about it now. Let's focus on why we came here in the first place."

At that moment, Ishita and Kondo stepped forward and stood before the demons.

The demons turned their attention toward them.

Ishita smiled casually.

"I didn't know my bestie's party had invited demons as guests."

From above, Sam saw Kondo standing directly before the demons and immediately panicked.

Even Yen looked impressed.

"Your son is quite brave. Standing before demons without showing a hint of fear."

Sam looked toward Yen with worry written all over his face.

"You all take His Majesty somewhere safe. I'll go get my son."

Alice placed a hand on Sam's shoulder.

"I'm coming with you."

She then looked toward Yen.

"Escort His Majesty to safety. We'll keep the demons occupied until then."

After receiving permission from the king, Sam and Alice hurried downstairs.

Meanwhile, King Rose noticed Kim sitting beside Shin, drenched in sweat.

Seeing her condition, he immediately rushed toward her.

"Kim! What happened? Why are you in this state?"

His expression filled with worry.

"Don't tell me you used magic again at a time like this. You know someone suddenly activated a Monster Purification Barrier."

Kim smiled apologetically.

"I'm sorry, Father. I couldn't refuse Kondo's request."

Her gaze drifted toward Kondo.

"And besides... there's still one thing left for me to do."

Sam and Alice finally arrived downstairs.

Sam immediately grabbed Kondo's shoulder.

"Kondo! Leave this place right now! You can't fight them!"

Sam's gaze falls on Damon's,Stepping in front of him, Sam added,

"Stay behind me."

Kondo said nothing.

He quietly remained behind Sam.

However, his eyes never left Alice.

Alice stood beside Ishita.

Alice's attention was focused entirely on Ishita.

At the same time, Ishita's gaze briefly shifted toward Kondo.

Then—

Alice touched the hilt of her sword.

A silver flash shot toward Ishita's heart with terrifying speed.

But before the silver light could reach its target

Kondo caught it with his bare hand.

Alice's eyes widened in shock.

Ishita couldn't even comprehend what had just happened.

Kondo had stopped Alice's sword with nothing but his hand.

Alice immediately tried to force the blade forward.

But to her surprise, her feet refused to move.

Looking down, she realized that both of her legs had been completely frozen in place.

Tracing the source of the magic, Alice looked upward.

Her gaze landed on Kim.

Kim had one hand stretched forward.

A blue magic circle spun around her wrist as she poured every last bit of strength she had left into reinforcing the ice imprisoning Alice.
