The silence in the Yuuki living room was so thick it could be cut with a knife.
Nitta Haruko sat frozen on the sofa, her eyes wide behind her glasses, staring at the three stunning, pink-haired girls standing in the doorway.
Rito, still sitting awkwardly on the sofa after his near-disastrous fall, let out a slow, quiet sigh.
'Well, so much for Momo-san's perfectly logical plan to keep them hidden,' Rito thought, his shoulders slumping slightly. He closed his eyes for a brief second. Immediately, his treacherous mind supplied the lingering, soft sensation of Haruko's chest pressing into his face and the firm squish of her breast in his right hand.
A fresh wave of heat rushed to his cheeks. He quickly shook his head, mentally slapping himself. 'No! Focus, Rito! This is Mikan's teacher. Stop letting your intrusive thoughts win.'
Gathering his composure, Rito stood up. He turned to the girls in the doorway.
"Lala, Momo, Nana," Rito said, his voice calm and steady. "Since you're already down here, come in. There's no point in hiding anymore."
Lala beamed, completely unbothered by the heavy atmosphere, and skipped into the room. Momo followed with a graceful, knowing smile, while Nana trailed behind, crossing her arms and looking slightly wary of the stranger on the sofa.
Haruko gripped her knees, her eyes darting between the three beauties. "Y-Yuuki-san... t-these girls... they are..."
"Nitta-sensei," Rito began, bowing his head politely before gesturing to the cheerful girl with long pink hair. "I shouldn't have tried to hide them from you. Let me introduce them properly. This is Lala Satalin Deviluke. She is... my fiancée."
"F-F-Fiancée?!" Haruko sputtered, practically leaping out of her seat. "But you're still in high school! And the rumours... wait, what about Run Elsie Jewelria?! The idol who confessed to you on national television?!"
Rito didn't flinch. He looked Haruko dead in the eye, his golden-brown gaze completely earnest.
"The rumours about Run are also true," Rito admitted smoothly, scratching the back of his neck with a sheepish but unapologetic smile. "Run is also my fiancée. We have an... understanding. Due to certain unique circumstances and traditions, I am engaged to both of them."
Haruko's brain effectively bluescreened. 'An understanding?! What kind of high school boy just casually admits to having multiple fiancées, including a top idol?!'
Before Haruko could spiral further, Rito gestured to the twins. "And these two are Momo-san and Nana-san. They are Lala's younger sisters. They came over to stay with their sister for some time to study and experience life here."
Momo stepped forward, offering a flawless, elegant bow. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Nitta-sensei. I am Momo Belia Deviluke. Rito-san has been incredibly gracious in allowing us to stay under his roof."
"Yeah, and I am Nana Astar Deviluke. It's nice to meet you," Nana added with a slight nod.
Rito deliberately left out the fact that the 'some time to study and experience life here' was much longer than he was admitting. He also made absolutely sure not to mention Haruna, or Risa, and he definitely wasn't going to breathe a word about his sexual relationship with his own sister sitting right next to him. Earth customs were strict about that, and there was no need to give Mikan's teacher a literal heart attack. For the same reason, he didn't mention anything about Sachie and Mami, who were also her students.
Haruko slowly sank back down onto the sofa, massaging her temples. "I... I can hardly believe this. You are living with your fiancée and her sisters... while your parents are away?"
"I know it sounds highly unusual, Nitta-sensei," Rito said, his tone softening with genuine sincerity. "And I understand why you might be worried about Mikan's living environment. But I promise you, I take my responsibility to my family very seriously."
Rito looked over at Mikan, offering her a warm smile. "We share the chores, we cook together, and we look out for one another. Lala, Momo-san, and Nana-san have become a part of our family. Our house has grown so much livelier and happier since they arrived. Mikan's life hasn't been negatively affected by this at all."
Haruko looked at Mikan, searching the young girl's face for any signs of distress, coercion, or exhaustion.
Instead, Mikan was smiling. It was a soft and genuine smile that radiated pure contentment.
"He's telling the truth, sensei," Mikan chimed in, her voice clear and confident. "It gets a little noisy sometimes, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Rito takes amazing care of all of us. I've never been happier."
Haruko looked between the earnest brother, the smiling sister, and the three beautiful, polite foreign girls. The chaotic, degenerate "Harem King" image the internet had painted completely dissolved. What she saw was just a slightly unconventional, but undeniably warm and loving household.
"I... see," Haruko sighed, adjusting her glasses. The tension finally drained from her shoulders. "If Yuuki-san says she is happy, then as her teacher, I will accept that. I suppose I can overlook the... unusual nature of your engagements, provided Yuuki-san's academic and personal well-being remains stellar."
"Thank you, Nitta-sensei," Rito said, bowing respectfully.
"However," Haruko added, her posture suddenly straightening. A new, different kind of intense energy sparked behind her glasses. "Since we are clearing the air regarding internet rumours... there is one more thing I simply must ask you, Yuuki Rito-san."
"Of course. What is it?"
Haruko leaned forward, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Some online forums claim that you are personally acquainted with the legendary Hoshino Ryūto-sensei. The creator of Dragon Ball. Is there any truth to this?"
Rito blinked. He looked at Haruko's intensely focused eyes, then remembered her visible disappointment earlier when she found out his father, Saibai, wasn't home.
'Ah,' Rito realized, a mental lightbulb going off. 'She's here as just not just a teacher, but also a manga otaku.'
A knowing, gentle smile spread across Rito's face.
"Yes, that rumour is also true," Rito replied casually. "Hoshino-sensei and I are very close."
Haruko gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "N-No way! You actually know the creator of Dragon Ball?!"
"I do," Rito nodded. He decided to throw a massive bone to the strict teacher who had just given his unconventional family a pass. "Since I can see that you are a fan of manga, Nitta-sensei... how about I get you something special?"
"S-Special?" Haruko squeaked.
"My dad is incredibly busy right now, but once his deadline passes, I can easily ask him for a personalized autograph for you," Rito offered smoothly. "And while I'm at it, I can ask Hoshino-sensei for an autograph as well. Maybe even a quick sketch of Super Saiyan Goku. I'll have Mikan bring them both to you when school reopens after summer vacation."
Haruko's professional facade completely and utterly disintegrated.
"A-A-An autograph from Saibai-sensei?! AND Hoshino-sensei?!" Haruko practically vibrated on the sofa, her face flushing with pure joy. Her eyes were practically sparkling with stars. "With a sketch of Goku?! Really?! Are you serious?!"
"Absolutely," Rito laughed softly.
Suddenly realizing how completely she had lost her composure in front of her student, Haruko violently cleared her throat.
"Ahem! Cough, cough!" Haruko sat back, trying desperately to quickly adjust her collar and look dignified. "I-I mean... as an educator, I really shouldn't impose on the families of my students for such... trivial, personal favours. It wouldn't be proper."
"It's no imposition at all, Nitta-sensei," Rito insisted, his smile widening. "Think of it as an apology for my clumsiness earlier with the iced tea. And a thank you for looking after Mikan so well."
Haruko bit her lip, her internal struggle lasting all of two seconds before her desires completely won.
"W-Well... if you insist!" Haruko said, adjusting her glasses with a trembling hand, a massive, giddy smile breaking through her strict mask. "I suppose it would be incredibly rude of me to refuse such a heartfelt gift! I will... highly anticipate Yuuki-san's return in the fall!"
The rest of the visit went by in a flash. The heavy interrogation had completely vanished, replaced by Haruko excitedly asking Rito questions about what Hoshino-sensei was like in person, which Rito answered with ease.
Twenty minutes later, Rito, Mikan, and the three princesses stood at the front door, waving goodbye as Nitta Haruko walked down the street. The teacher had a literal skip in her step, completely overjoyed and utterly convinced that Mikan was in the best possible hands.
As the door clicked shut, Rito let out a long, exhausted sigh, leaning his back against the wood.
"Well," Rito muttered, looking at the girls. "That could have gone a lot worse."
Mikan giggled, walking past him toward the kitchen to start preparing dinner. "You handled her perfectly, Rito. Though I think you just made her a fan of yours for life."
