Chapter 70 - Chapter 70 — Cruel Experiments and the 02 Drive

The arrival of the first batch of test subjects marked the true beginning of Osborn Group's Amazon Cell experiments.

Dozens of unconscious bodies were laid out in sealed cabins across the underground lab floor. The cold, bright white lights reflected on metal instruments and glass panels. The air smelled of disinfectant and something too sharp to be comforting.

The scientists no longer hesitated.

They had been swallowed by ambition.

Ethics, morality, restraint—those words no longer held weight here.

---

"Experiment A-01 to A-04, preparing to start," a researcher called out.

"Test subject vital signs: heart rate normal, blood pressure stable. Sedation holding."

"The experiment can begin."

In the main operating chamber, one fixed cabin sat at the center of the room, surrounded by machines and monitoring screens. The test subject was strapped inside, unconscious, a gigabit armband locked around his wrist, lights blinking as it fed constant data to the control system.

Heart rate. Oxygen level. Blood pressure. Brainwave activity. All of it streamed across the monitors in real time.

At the side console, a scientist lifted several vials of glowing green liquid.

"Amazon Cell lysogen solution ready," he reported.

"Load it," Dr. Connors ordered.

The vials were slotted into an injection module connected to the fixed cabin.

Once everything was in position, Dr. Connors extended his remaining arm and pressed the start button.

"Begin injection."

With a sharp mechanical hiss, two injection devices inside the cabin extended and pierced into the subject's body.

The green Amazon Cell solution flowed into his veins.

Everyone watched the screens.

At first, nothing happened.

Then the test subject suddenly opened his eyes.

"ROAR!!"

He let out a horrible scream, more like an animal than a human. His muscles flexed violently, veins bulging under his skin. He thrashed inside the cabin, straining against the restraints.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The steel cabin trembled under his strength.

"How is he this strong already?" someone whispered.

On the monitors, black lines appeared on his body image, spreading out from the injection sites like crawling veins, running under the skin, reaching toward every part of his frame.

The subject's heart rate climbed rapidly.

Blood pressure spiked.

Neural activity surged into chaotic patterns.

The numbers raced up the scale.

When they crossed a certain threshold—

The subject's pupils twisted, shifting into something inhuman.

Then his body burst.

There was no slow breakdown.

Just an instant of extreme pressure and then an explosion of flesh and blackened blood. The liquid slammed against the inner glass of the isolation room, staining it a dark, ugly red-black.

Silence.

Someone gagged.

Dr. Connors closed his eyes and covered part of his face with his hand. He didn't want to look at another dead body. This was already the fourth person who had died in front of him.

Norman Osborn, standing outside the glass, didn't look away.

His eyes were hard and cold.

He slammed his fist against the glass wall, more angry at the failed result than the human lost.

"Mr. Norman, we should slow down," Dr. Connors said, turning toward him. "We should switch back to animal testing—mice, maybe primates. We need to understand the rejection reactions first."

Several scientists nodded quickly.

They were shaken, but no one dared say too much.

"That's too slow," Norman snapped. "We have less than two weeks before the military's inspection."

His expression twisted with frustration.

"We keep going with human testing. This batch failed, then we get another batch. We look forward, not back. What is there to be afraid of?"

The way he spoke, it sounded like he was talking about broken tools, not dead people.

"Start the next trial," he ordered.

Some of the staff hesitated, but no one refused.

Norman's voice cut through the room again.

"Our goal is to push all of humanity to evolve. A few sacrifices on the way are acceptable."

He sounded almost like he believed he was doing something noble.

Like a devil wearing the language of a savior.

And so, the experiments continued.

---

Half a month passed.

During that time, the underground labs turned into a factory of madness.

More test subjects came.

More bodies were injected with Amazon Cells.

More cabins shook under violent struggles.

More glass was splattered with black blood.

A small handful survived the injection.

Most did not.

---

Far away from the horror beneath Osborn Tower, Levi was in a completely different world.

The sun was warm and bright above his private manor.

The swimming pool shimmered under blue sky. A few beautiful girls laughed and played in the water, splashing each other. Levi lay back on a deck chair beside the pool, wearing sunglasses and sipping chilled fruit tea.

Akishira, in a swimsuit, knelt beside him and gently massaged his shoulders.

Izzy stood not far away, a tablet in her hands, watching the data streams and reports.

On the surface, it looked like a perfect vacation scene.

But Levi was still working.

Even now, he was tracking the shift of power in the world.

Izzy's clear voice reported the latest news.

"Master President," she said, "about the Osborn Group—there has been progress. Based on our monitoring of their internal network…"

She paused and adjusted a display.

"Peter Parker helped Dr. Connors find the Amazon Cells."

Levi chuckled, amused.

"So the little spider helped unlock the devil," he said. "Interesting."

He lifted his glass and took a slow sip.

"I wonder how he'd feel if he knew he helped open hell's door himself."

He shook his head, still smiling.

"Alright. What's Osborn's research progress now?"

Izzy continued.

"They have already begun full-scale human experiments," she said. "So far, they have experimented on 142 people."

Levi's eyes narrowed.

"How many survived?"

Izzy checked the tablet.

"Ninety-eight people… exploded and died," she said quietly. "Eighteen had failed integration. Their bodies resisted the Amazon Cells. They're alive, but in permanent coma."

She changed the screen.

"The remaining subjects successfully integrated the Amazon Cells. However, most of them are still unconscious. They're being kept in long-term observation."

Levi let out a low whistle.

"Over a hundred experiments in just half a month," he said. "They're really desperate."

He swirled the fruit tea in his glass lazily.

"Just this one scandal, if exposed… would be enough to destroy Osborn's reputation completely."

Izzy nodded.

"From the data we pulled," she added, "this isn't even the first time Osborn Group used living people as test subjects. They've had hidden cooperation with some prisons for a while."

She hesitated.

"Boss, should I start leaking these files now? If we release this evidence, Osborn will be hit very hard."

Levi smiled faintly and shook his head.

"Not yet."

He watched the water glint in the sun as one of the girls splashed another and shrieked.

"Let the bullets fly for a while longer."

If he exposed everything now, it would cause a scandal, yes—but it might not break Osborn completely. The timing mattered. The bigger the fall, the better.

"Keep watching them," Levi said. "If needed… give them a little push from behind."

He adjusted his sunglasses.

"By the way, what's the outside world saying about Vanderbuilt Technologies now?"

Izzy bit her lip.

"There is still a lot of negative coverage," she admitted.

After the bigger news outlets were blocked from posting lies, smaller online outlets, gossip accounts, and paid smear channels had jumped in eagerly, like sharks smelling blood. Old rivals and jealous consortiums were also thrilled to use this moment to attack Vanderbuilt Technologies, spreading fear and rumors about Modia Units.

Levi didn't seem angry.

He just smiled calmly.

"Good," he said. "Make a list of every company and outlet behind those smears. Put them in my little notebook. We'll pay them back when I'm bored."

Izzy nodded quickly.

"Yes, Master President."

Levi thought for a moment, then asked:

"And how's Stark?"

At the sound of that name, his interest clearly rose.

The last time Tony Stark moved, he had unknowingly fed Levi a lot of valuable data and experience. Levi enjoyed watching what that genius would do under pressure.

Izzy tapped on the screen and linked to Satellite Zenith, pulling real-time data.

Her eyes widened slightly in surprise.

"Reporting to the President," she said, "Tony Stark is currently in the Middle East. It looks like he is preparing to attack the Ten Rings."

Levi's eyebrows lifted.

"Oh?"

He hadn't expected Tony to still end up in the Middle East, but this time, the details were a bit different from the original pattern.

"Show me," Levi said.

Izzy pulled J.A.R.V.I.S. logs and field images, then began to give a full summary.

---

After arriving in the Middle East, Tony's experience was similar to what it should've been—he drew the attention of the Ten Rings and ran into an ambush.

The difference this time was simple but critical.

He had the Knight 01 armor with him.

The suit was incomplete, underpowered, but still far beyond normal weapons.

During the attack, Tony managed to put on the armor in time and escape instead of being captured.

However, his driver and loyal friend, Happy, was not as lucky.

Happy was taken hostage by the Ten Rings.

They contacted Tony and issued a demand:

> Bring them one hundred Jericho missiles as ransom.

If he refused, they would cut Happy "into eight pieces."

Tony, of course, had no intention of giving such people missiles.

Instead, their threat lit a fire inside him.

To rescue Happy, Tony stayed in the Middle East and began to upgrade his armor in secret.

The biggest problem with his earlier 01 armor was simple—energy.

Two hours of charging for five minutes of flight.

It wasn't sustainable.

So Tony locked himself away, running calculations, designing, testing, and failing.

And after days of work—just like in the original history—he created something new:

The Arc Reactor.

A compact, powerful energy source.

He didn't have shrapnel in his chest this time, so he didn't embed it into his body. Instead, he built a crimson belt and installed the Arc Reactor at its center.

Once activated, the reactor would send power through the belt's anchor point, letting the suit lock onto him and attach automatically.

Izzy projected a hologram of the belt.

Levi's eyes lit up.

The device looked extremely similar to a transformation belt—a 02-type drive, reminiscent of the 02 belt from Vanderbuilt's Kamen Rider-style tech, just with different colors.

"Not bad," Levi murmured with a smile. "He's built himself a Rider belt without even realizing it."

Izzy continued.

"Right now, Tony Stark is preparing to test his new armor and use it to attack the Ten Rings base and rescue Happy."

Levi sat up slightly.

"Now that," he said, "I want to see live."

"Understood, President," Izzy replied. "Switching to live feed now."

---

Somewhere over a desert in the Middle East, a sleek private jet hovered in the air.

Inside, Tony Stark stood in the center of the cabin, wearing a serious expression for once.

"That's the place," he said, staring at a holographic map. "Favis, open the rear hatch. Prepare the Type 02 armor."

"Understood, sir," J.A.R.V.I.S. replied.

The back door of the plane opened with a heavy metallic thud.

Hot desert wind roared into the cabin, whipping at Tony's hair and clothes.

Tony took off his sunglasses and tossed them aside.

With his other hand, he raised a red-and-gold belt device—the 02 drive he had built to house the Arc Reactor.

He wrapped it around his waist.

With a mechanical shifting sound, the belt extended automatically, locking firmly around him.

The central reactor lit up with a bright glow.

Robotic arms attached to the plane's interior snapped into motion, grabbing armor pieces and moving with precise speed.

In seconds, they began to mount the red-and-gold suit onto Tony's body, piece by piece.

Chest plate. Shoulder plates. Gauntlets. Leg armor. Mask.

The armor closed around him like a mechanical shell.

When the last piece clicked into place, Tony Stark was no longer just a man standing in a plane.

He was a fully armored high-beam rider of steel.

Tony pressed the belt's activation button.

With a sharp mechanical tone, the Arc Reactor flared even brighter.

Power surged through the armor.

"Beautiful," Tony said softly, flexing his hands, feeling the strength in every movement.

Then he took a step forward—

—and jumped out of the plane without a second of hesitation.

Far away, by the pool in his manor, Levi watched the live feed with a relaxed smile.

"Showtime," he said.
