PART I — A Quiet City
The city of Greybridge was supposed to be safe.
No demon alerts.
No evacuation orders.
Just people trying to live.
Street vendors shouted prices. Children laughed near a tram stop. Office workers stared at their wrist-comms, tired but alive.
Aiden watched the city through the transport window as the trainee convoy passed by.
Adolf: "Hard to believe demons exist when places like this still breathe."
Fushiguro: "That's why they hit places like this."
Aiden didn't answer. Something felt… off.
The air was too still.
PART II — The Fear Begins
It started small.
A man froze in the middle of the street, staring at nothing.
Then he screamed.
Not a shout — a break.
"NO—GET AWAY—!"
People turned.
There was nothing there.
Then another person dropped to their knees.
Then another.
Shadows twisted unnaturally across walls. Reflections in windows moved wrong.
Children began crying.
A woman whispered—
"I see it… I see it again…"
The ground pulsed.
And Emmu emerged.
PART III — Emmu Revealed
The demon floated above the street, its massive single eye blinking slowly. Two irises rotated independently, scanning the crowd.
Emmu:
"So much fear…
You carry it everywhere."
The air thickened.
People began seeing things that weren't real.
A man backed away from an invisible figure.
"Dad…? But you're dead—"
A girl screamed as the pavement beneath her appeared to open into fire.
These weren't illusions.
They were manifestations.
Fear given form.
PART IV — Iron Veil Responds
Drop-ships screamed through the sky.
Slayers landed hard, boots cracking asphalt.
Lady Eve stepped forward, blades drawn.
Lady Eve: "Eyes off the demon!
Focus on me!"
Some listened.
Others were already lost.
Samurai raised his rifle, but stopped.
Samurai: "If we fire blindly, we hit civilians."
Helena Voss's voice cut in through comms.
Voss: "Contain the fear field first.
No lethal shots until civilians are clear."
Emmu laughed softly.
Emmu:
"You protect them…
Even as they break."
PART V — The Trainees' Test
Aiden, Adolf, and Fushiguro were deployed on evacuation duty.
Smoke. Screams. Panic.
Aiden grabbed a trembling boy.
Aiden: "Hey—look at me.
What's your name?"
"T-Tomas…"
Aiden: "Good. Tomas, you're real.
I'm real.
Follow my voice."
The shadow chasing the boy vanished.
Adolf lifted debris off a trapped woman.
Adolf: "Fear's lying to you.
I'm stronger than it."
Fushiguro deployed sound-dampening drones, cutting the psychic pressure.
Fushiguro: "Emmu feeds on panic.
Reduce noise. Reduce fear."
It worked.
Slowly.
PART VI — Facing the Fear
Lady Eve advanced, eyes steady, breath controlled.
Emmu focused on her.
Emmu:
"Tell me, Slayer…
What haunts you?"
The street shifted.
For a moment—just a moment—Eve saw her past.
She closed her eyes.
Then stepped forward.
Lady Eve: "Fear only rules you if you listen."
She slashed.
Not at Emmu—
At the space around him.
Blue Rose vapor erupted, disrupting his ability.
Samurai fired a precision round laced with iron shrapnel.
Emmu shrieked as his form destabilized.
Emmu: "This isn't over…"
His body unraveled into mist, retreating into the cracks of the city.
Gone.
PART VII — Aftermath
The city was quiet again.
People sat where they had fallen, shaking but alive.
Slayers moved among them, offering water, blankets, reassurance.
Aiden leaned against a wall, exhausted.
Adolf: "We survived."
Fushiguro: "Barely."
Helena Voss appeared on the screen of a hovering drone.
She looked directly at Aiden.
Voss: "You kept people alive today."
Aiden swallowed.
Voss: "Remember this feeling.
It's why we fight."
FINAL SCENE — Emmu Returns
Deep underground, Emmu reformed, his eye twitching.
Zenn waited.
Zenn: "You failed?"
Emmu: "No."
He smiled.
Emmu: "I learned."
Zenn's third eye pulsed.
Zenn: "Good.
Fear is only the beginning."
