Gideon returned home in a rush, his expression grim and unreadable.
The moment he stepped inside, Summer pushed the wheelchair toward him as fast as she could.
"Gideon," she called out, her voice trembling.
She stopped right in front of him, her hands gripping the armrests tightly. "Chloe… she has been kidnapped," she blurted out, panic spilling through every word. "That photograph… She was tied up… Unconscious… I'm so scared, Gideon…"
Her eyes glistened with tears, her breathing uneven as fear consumed her.
"I don't know what to do… What if something happens to her?"
But her words faltered as her gaze shifted past him and fell on a frail figure behind him.
Holy stepped, her face pale, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
Summer's expression froze. For a split second, everything went still. Then her lips trembled.
"Mom…"
The tears she had been holding back flowed freely. She burst into sobs.
All the panic, the helplessness, the terror came crashing down at once.
