Chapter 203 - Chapter 204: Storm Brewing

"More work has arrived, everyone get ready."

The cargo ship docked at the port, and the dockworkers immediately began their busy work with forklifts.

Inside the port office, the person in charge looked at Megure and frowned. "Inspector, no one here reported anything. What is the meaning of this inspection?"

Megure took out a search warrant and said, "We received intelligence that contraband is hidden on the cargo ship currently docking. We need to conduct a thorough inspection of the cargo."

As soon as the port official saw the search warrant, he immediately smiled. "So the Police Department received intelligence. Inspector, Customs also needs to be involved in inspecting the goods. How about conducting the inspection together with Customs personnel?"

Megure nodded. Accompanied by his officers and the person in charge, they headed toward the docking area.

Before long, they met with the Customs inspection team. After presenting the order, Customs temporarily stopped inspecting other cargo and focused on this ship first.

Huge containers were placed one by one on the dock.

Megure, along with the police officers and Customs personnel, carefully searched each container.

Several drug-sniffing dogs moved back and forth, sniffing through the containers.

This intelligence had been sent by overseas staff of the Japan Public Security Bureau. It reported that something was wrong with this batch of goods and instructed the local authorities to inspect it carefully.

This was also due to the recent increase in criminal cases and continuous terrorist incidents in Japan. The Cabinet had allocated more funds for homeland security, giving the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Public Security Bureau more resources and manpower.

"Woof woof!"

Suddenly, a police dog barked loudly at one container.

The police officers and Customs personnel looked at each other with excitement.

"Inspect this container carefully!"

The overseas intelligence had not been detailed, and Megure did not know what exactly the contraband was.

However, his first suspicion was that drugs were hidden inside.

Soon, everyone carefully moved the cargo out of the container.

After confirming there was no danger, Megure nodded and signaled for the box to be opened.

When the first box was opened, everyone froze and gasped.

Inside the box were neatly arranged, brand new American weapons.

A police officer stepped forward, inspected them quickly, and reported, "Inspector, these weapons are not civilian models. They are military-grade automatic weapons."

Megure swallowed and immediately shouted, "Quick, inspect the nearby containers as well!"

Both the police officers and Customs personnel became tense.

They quickly moved out all the cargo from nearby containers and opened every box.

Looking at the piles of brand new firearms, boxes of ammunition, and stacks of bulletproof vests, everyone was stunned.

The officers and Customs personnel began counting immediately.

After some time, a police officer reported, "Inspector Megure, according to our rough estimate, there are about one hundred and fifty M-series assault rifles, around eighty thousand rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and one hundred and twenty sets of bulletproof vests."

Hearing these numbers, Megure's lips went dry.

"What is this for? Bringing such a large amount of equipment into Japan. Is someone planning a rebellion?"

Everyone fell silent.

Even the Customs officers, who had seen all kinds of contraband and smuggling cases, had never encountered military weapon smuggling on this scale.

Although this batch of weapons was not extraordinary compared to top international arms dealers, it was extremely exaggerated for Japan.

Especially with the recent frequent public security incidents, the officers present felt uneasy.

"Search again carefully. See if there are any heavy weapons."

Megure calmed himself and issued another order.

The police and Customs officers became busy again, inspecting every detail carefully.

However, after searching every container, no heavy weapons were found.

Megure felt slightly relieved.

Even so, this batch of rifles, ammunition, and bulletproof vests was enough to arm an entire company.

"Confiscate everything."

Megure waved his hand.

This was no small smuggling case. It was a case that could cause serious problems in Japan.

Just then, several people forced their way in despite the officers trying to stop them.

Megure frowned and was about to scold them, but he swallowed the words.

The people who arrived were from the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, Special Investigation Department.

Moreover, they were not ordinary investigators. They were the two top leaders of the department, Sakai Takaaki and Inoue Akihiko.

Some officers did not recognize them at first, but once the two revealed their identities, everyone fell silent.

Megure had a strong sense of justice and felt a vague sense of unease.

"Mr. Sakai, Mr. Inoue, may I ask what brings you to the port?"

The higher the official rank, the more they feared the Special Investigation Department.

Grassroots officers like Megure were actually outside their usual reach.

Sakai Takaaki smiled. "Inspector, are you inspecting the cargo from this ship?"

Megure nodded. "Yes. We discovered a large quantity of prohibited items."

Sakai Takaaki replied, "Excuse me, but these items actually belong to us. We need to take them away."

Hearing that they wanted to take the weapons, Megure immediately refused.

"The Special Investigation Department does not have that authority."

Seeing such a small inspector refuse him, Sakai Takaaki's smile disappeared.

"These items belong to the U.S. Forces in Japan."

"There was a small error during transportation, so they were not delivered directly to the base and ended up here instead."

"This is official documentation from the U.S. military. We have the right to take them. Inspector, you do not need to worry. Just show this proof to your superior and no one will make things difficult for you."

"If you continue obstructing us, we will have to ask the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to explain your actions to both the Special Investigation Department and the U.S. Forces in Japan."

Hearing the blatant threat and seeing the documents issued by the U.S. Forces in Japan, Megure's face darkened.

As a mere inspector, this matter was beyond his authority.

However, he did not believe a single word Sakai said.

It was possible for mistakes to occur during military transportation, but for military weapons to be mixed with civilian goods and even delivered through smuggling was clearly suspicious.

But facing the strong stance of the Special Investigation Department, Megure could only compromise.

He sighed and waved his hand, ordering his subordinates to step aside.

The Special Investigation Department personnel began loading the weapons onto their trucks.

After they left, Officer Takagi whispered, "Inspector, what are those Special Investigation Department people doing? Such a large batch of weapons is extremely dangerous."

Megure shook his head.

"My dear Takagi, how would I know? This matter is beyond our authority. Let's report it to our superiors first."

Inside the departing convoy, Sakai Takaaki and Inoue Akihiko sat in the back seat of a sedan.

Sakai said, "Inoue, you will personally lead the team and deliver this batch of supplies to this location."

The location he gave was an abandoned factory.

Inoue felt uneasy but did not dare refuse.

Sakai ordered the driver to stop by the roadside. After getting out, he switched to another car and muttered to himself.

"The people over there are really unreliable. They even needed me to personally retrieve the goods. Now I am involved as well."

"Forget it. Inoue can take the blame anyway. It has nothing to do with me. I didn't expect the higher-ups to want Toru's life. I wonder what he did."

Sakai clicked his tongue.

Back in Kyoto, he had humbled himself before Toru, but that was because he feared Spencer behind him.

Now Spencer had personally ordered cooperation in killing Toru, so Sakai immediately distanced himself.

"Heh. Just a wet-behind-the-ears kid after all. I must have been blind to flatter him back then."

With a cold snort, Sakai left.

Inside the original car, Inoue's uneasiness grew stronger.

He suspected that Sakai was trying to frame him.

However, he did not know the details and could not refuse his superior. He could only grit his teeth and carry out the task.

Inside an abandoned factory in Tokyo, nearly one hundred people were hiding.

Every one of them was Latin American, making them very conspicuous in Japan.

"Boss, several trucks stopped outside. The people on them already left."

"Go lead the men to check the supplies. Be careful."

"Okay."

Not long after, the subordinate returned.

"Boss, the supplies have been counted. Here is the list."

"Hmm? No heavy weapons, and no explosives?"

The one-eyed Latin American man took a puff from his cigarette and frowned.

"No, Boss."

"Contact our local connections. We need to get some explosives at least. We finally have an opportunity, and I plan to make something big."

"Boss, what are we going to do?"

"The higher-ups ordered us to eliminate that CIA agent Adam. He is powerful, but we are in the dark while he is in the open. How can he alone fight one hundred of us?"

The leader of the cartel suicide squad grinned viciously.

"I won't just take his life. I will take the lives of his entire family."

"If we are going to do this, we do it big. We will seize hostages and force the Japan government to pay a ransom."

As a suicide squad specially trained by a drug cartel, these men were completely lawless.

Now that they had obtained such equipment in a country with strong public order, it would be a waste if they did not profit from it.

"Boss, what is our target?"

"The higher-ups gave intelligence. Adam is going to a school for an event. He has relatives there, and the students are all children of influential figures in Japan. If we kidnap them, the current Prime Minister will definitely pay."

The drug lord crushed his cigarette.

He could no longer wait.
