In the Conference Room...
A few days later, Henry Jugenberg, Andy Chenoweth, and the other ten bosses at Gale Capital were very excited. They were signing their names on a new contract, making them official partners and shareholders in the company.
"Congratulations, everyone," Zane said with a big, proud smile. "Starting today, you're not just employees. You're partners."
"Thank you, boss!"
"Thank you, Mr. Blackwood!"
They all thanked Zane from the bottom of their hearts. And why wouldn't they? Zane had just given them 35% of his entire company!
Henry, as the main boss, got 10%.
Andy, the number-two guy, got 8%.
The other ten bosses shared the rest.
"This is just for now," Zane announced to his happy team. "In a year or two, as long as other people in the company do amazing work, I'll be happy to give out even more rewards. I truly hope that everyone on our Gale team becomes a billionaire one day!"
Everyone clapped. They were all so motivated.
After the meeting, Zane moved the $220 million he had personally earned into his own private bank account in Switzerland. This money was his own profit. It didn't belong to Gale Capital. The money that did belong to Gale Capital was the $740 million from all the outside investors.
Henry and his team had, of course, thought about leaving Zane and starting their own company. But after thinking about it, they knew that was a bad idea.
They all remembered how, during the big money crisis, Zane just knew the perfect time to jump in and the perfect time to get out. One time might be luck. Two times might be a miracle. But Zane had been right every single time. He was a genius.
They knew that if they started their own company, they could make money. But they also knew that by staying with Zane, they would be able to make much, much more.
In a New York Hotel...
"Boss," Zane's lawyer, David Martin, said, "I have to warn you. That $220 million you just put in your overseas account... if you bring it back to America, you'll have to pay at least $58 million in taxes."
Zane's eye twitched. Ouch.
"However," David continued, "if you are planning to use that money to buy... say... a private jet, or a yacht, or a fancy house, my team and I are sure we can get those taxes down to less than $2 million."
Zane just nodded. He really needed to think about that. As a super-rich guy, he had to admit... he really wanted to buy some of those "big toys."
"I never had the chance before," he thought, "but now I can buy some really cool stuff!"
He wanted a private jet, a yacht, a mansion... maybe even his own private island!
The next morning, his assistant, Alexander, handed him a list of prices for jets and yachts. It was dizzying.
After thinking about it, Zane made his choices.
First, he bought a Gulfstream G200 jet for $20.5 million. It was one of the most luxurious and best-performing jets in the world.
"But this one isn't my private jet," he told his team. "This is a company jet, for all the top bosses at Golden Dawn to use for business."
His true personal choice was the Boeing 767. It was a giant, super-safe, and incredibly fancy private jet made just for the richest people in the world.
"I'll buy it!" he decided. "The $110 million one!"
(In the future, the Google bosses would buy this same kind of jet, but it would cost them almost twice as much!)
Two days later, Zane had signed the contracts. The jets would be ready in a year or two. He had just spent $130 million, but to him, it was just a drop in the bucket.
With the $90 million he had left, Zane's spending spree wasn't over!
He ordered a giant, 65-meter yacht ($20 million).
He ordered nine new sports cars from Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini ($6 million).
He bought a giant, 500-acre farm in the Great Lakes area ($12 million).
And finally, he bought a small, private island in the Bahamas named "White Pearl" ($42 million).
In just a few days, he had spent $190 million of his $220 million.
"Oh my god," Zane thought, feeling a little dizzy as he looked at all the things he now owned. "This is the life of the rich! Well... life is now complete."
For a moment, he felt like his steps were a little unsteady. He was just so happy.
