POV Takashi Komuro
"Takashi!" He heard Rei's voice calling out to him while he was standing with Hisashi. They had been watching Taro-san bustle about, tending to his business, and both turned toward the sound.
A short distance away, Rei was approaching them. Her new eyes were fixed on them with an unblinking gaze as she walked at a steady pace.
He watched her with a touch of confusion; she looked somewhat exhilarated yet determined, as if she were about to tackle a monumental task. It made him wonder, and a flicker of worry surfaced about what she was planning to do.
"Good thing you were here. I didn't want to walk all over the Mall looking for you," she sighed, shaking her head.
"What's up? Do we have a mission or something?" Hisashi asked, crossing his arms and meeting Rei's gaze.
"Yes, you guessed right. Mom told us where our parents are," Rei said. It took a few moments for the words to sink in, but as soon as he and Hisashi realized what she meant, a wave of joy surged through them. He wanted to say something, but Rei cut him off before he could get a word out. "The thing is, they've set up a massive evacuation point where they are. Isao is sending us with a group of eight people who have awakened their powers to save everyone there."
Isao awakened powers in eight more people? That... that was sudden. He didn't think Isao would do that—not that he was some power-hungry jerk, but he hadn't expected him to do this for people he'd only known for a few hours, especially since those same people hadn't made the best first impression.
First, there was the ambush Yuriko-san set up, and then the fact that the men working for Soichiro-san wanted to take their weapons. It was all pretty unexpected, honestly.
But he felt he understood why Isao did it... if he could save a large number of people at the cost of empowering a few individuals with questionable loyalty, he would do it. Takashi had no doubt about that.
"T-that's..." Hisashi next to him didn't even know what to say, still looking at Rei in shock. He suddenly turned to Takashi, uncrossing his arms and letting them drop to his sides. "Can he awaken powers in Taro-san too? And... in our parents?"
"Hmm? Who is this Taro-san?" Rei asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Er, Taro-san is a mechanic who worked for the Takagi family... he's a really pleasant guy and knows a ton about mechanics, cars, and all that. These days, I think it'll be extremely hard to find someone with his level of knowledge." Takashi answered for Hisashi, pointing toward Taro-san, who was still busy checking the vehicles and occupying himself with work. "We were talking to him about half an hour ago. Cheerful guy."
Rei watched the man's moving figure for a moment as he worked, then sighed and scratched her forehead.
"Well, he'd probably be up for it. What's one more person when there are already over twenty?" She shrugged and nodded, as if to say Isao wouldn't mind.
"That's good... wait, over twenty?" Takashi looked at Rei, puzzled. Where did over twenty people come from? Hadn't Isao only awakened about ten people back at the Estate?
"Um, yeah?" Rei looked at him like he was a bit slow, then sighed as she realized something herself. "Ah! I didn't tell you! He awakened powers in seventeen people—Saya's father and sixteen other men. So the total number of Awakened might even reach thirty."
"Can I ask why he did that? I mean, I get why in general, but I'm curious what led him to that decision," Hisashi frowned slightly. "Especially considering how they acted toward Kota..."
"Oh, forget about that, Hisashi!" Rei said loudly. "They were just doing what they thought was the best way to keep everyone safe. Who knows what would have happened if Kota didn't know how to use those guns? So, they were within their rights. But everything's fine now; we're all working to provide safety for more people and save as many as we can." She sighed and covered her face with her hand, as if tired of the conversation.
And she was right, overall. It would be too childish to hold a grudge against those who were trying to do the right thing—they just could have asked for the weapons a bit more politely, and Isao probably wouldn't have minded giving them one or two.
"Rei's right!" A strong, confident voice rang out right behind them—a voice that could only belong to one person.
"Isao...?!" Takashi spun around to see Isao standing there with two crates floating behind him. One was smaller, while the other was damn long, wide, and tall.
"Yo. What's up, guys? Busy without me?" He smirked.
"Not really. Where were you?" Takashi smiled back at his... Aniki? Yeah, you could call him that. Despite Isao's outward bluntness toward him and others, he cared for them like an older brother.
"Well, I had to take a walk to a clinic to grab some useful stuff. Plus, an old lady was feeling pretty crappy, and the thing she needed was at that specific clinic. Didn't I tell you?" He looked at them with a hint of confusion, making Takashi sigh.
"No," Hisashi answered, stepping forward. "You just said Yuriko-san and Kiriko-san shouldn't go anywhere, and that you were going somewhere to pick something up. Nothing else." Oh yeah! Takashi remembered the last part of what Hisashi said, but the first part... that's what Isao meant when he said Kiriko and Yuriko-san shouldn't leave yet. Kiriko-san was supposed to wait for Isao before heading to the evacuation point.
"Ah, meh... happens to the best of us. I was in a hurry, so I forgot to go into detail about where I was going." Shrugging, he walked past them, the metal crates following him, floating through the air like a boat drifting down a river. "I'll be off then. Better get this stuff to Shizuka quickly and see you all off."
"Mhm..." Takashi and Hisashi nodded as Isao walked away. Silence hung between them for a moment until Rei spoke up.
"Um, yeah, catch you later! I'm gonna go talk to Isao...!" Rei waved and ran after him, leaving the two boys to exchange a look.
POV Rei Miyamoto
"Isao...!" She caught up to him just as he was entering the Mall. Hearing her call his name, he turned and smiled.
"Yes, Rei? Something wrong?"
"N-no, I just wanted to ask one thing..." She sighed and matched his pace, walking right beside him. She felt a slight flush of embarrassment as they walked so close their shoulders and arms almost touched. "I heard from my mother that you aren't going with us to the elementary school to save the kids..."
"Ah, that." He shook his head slightly. "I don't really see the point in me going. Besides, who's going to stay and protect this place when almost half the capable men are leaving, along with all of you?" Isao shrugged, continuing to walk. "And... honestly? I think this decision is better than if I went myself with Kiriko-san and you guys."
"But why?" She looked at him, puzzled. Truly, why? Wouldn't it be better if he went with her mom and the rest of them to handle everything himself?
"First, because there will be a lot of adults there, most of whom will be police officers—people close to authority. What happens if some kid shows up and starts bossing them around?" He looked her in the face, and it seemed he saw the exact moment she understood. "Exactly. They wouldn't be very happy, and..."
"I get it." She bit her lip slightly as they climbed the stairs to the second floor.
"Hm." She felt Isao's gaze on her, and then she stopped... feeling his hand on her head. "Why the long face?! You'll only be gone for a day, maybe two at most. Then you'll come back and we'll hang out. And... I promise once we get settled on the island, we'll spend time on the beach and throw a real party." He smiled at her, making her face turn bright red—not to mention how good it felt to have him gently pat her head. God... it was so embarrassing!
She felt the heat spread from her cheeks down to her neck and ears, letting out a soft moan of fluster. She fanned her face with her hand, trying to cool down, while Isao continued to pat her head with a soothing smile like she was a little girl. It was not helping her current state at all.
"So... don't worry, Rei-chan. Everything will be fine!" He gave her one last smile and pulled his hand away. She let out a tiny squeak, barely stopping herself from asking him to keep doing it, and watched quietly as he continued up the stairs.
She stood there dazed for a few seconds, then, after composing herself, followed him with a lovestruck smile that she didn't even realize she was wearing.
She caught up to him and walked silently by his side. A comfortable silence settled between them, one in which they both found peace—and in her case, pure bliss. To her, just being near him felt like divine pleasure.
So, she was disappointed when he stopped at a door, set his crates down, and went inside. She followed him and saw Marikawa.
"Yo, Shizuka!" He raised a hand and waved to Marikawa, who was sitting by the bed of an elderly woman covered with a blanket. An old man sat next to her.
"Oh, Isao-chan, you're back already?" Shizuka stood up abruptly, her massive breasts bouncing, and Rei bit her lip in a mix of envy and annoyance. She didn't say anything, though; it was pointless to argue with such a flighty woman who would probably forget what was said within a minute.
"Yeah, I grabbed everything I could that looked remotely useful. It's all outside. By the way, I got the plasma you mentioned. Everything was just like you said—the fridges were still holding the temperature, so I grabbed all the plasma I saw."
"Oh! That's wonderful! Just what Mikiya-san needs!" She approached Isao happily.
"T-thank you, young man," the old man who had been sitting by his sleeping wife said, stepping in front of Isao and bowing almost to his knees. "Thank you, my gratitude is immeasurable! Thank you! Thank you!" He took Isao's hands in his and kept bowing, his eyes tearing up. Isao's expression turned slightly awkward, and he sighed.
"No need to thank me, old timer. It's fine!" He grabbed the man's shoulders and stopped him from bowing further. "It's all good. Shizuka will make sure your wife is okay. She's the one doing the real work."
"B-but, to go out there when those m-monsters are roaming... I am grateful to you, young man. Thank you, thank you so much for your big, kind heart!" The old man smiled gratefully at Isao, making him blush slightly at the praise.
"Yes, Isao-chan, you did great! Not many men would have dared to do that in your position, so accept this man's thanks." Shizuka smiled at him, making him blush even harder.
"Alright, alright!" Isao grinned widely, detached his hands from the old man's, and awkwardly shoved them into his pockets, still smiling sheepishly. "Come on, I'll show you what I brought." He motioned for Shizuka to follow, and she did so with a smile, passing Rei and earning a sour look in return.
3rd Person POV
"So, are you ready to listen to me, Saki-chan?" Yuki Miku stood a few steps behind Saki, who was staring in shock at the mirror, trying to figure out how she'd been so easily played. "Hello! You there?" Miku raised an eyebrow in slight annoyance. "It's actually quite rude to ignore someone who comes to you with a good proposal, you know?" The red-haired girl's voice was purring, like a cat playing with a mouse and enjoying every second of it.
"N-no... yes." Saki turned to face Miku, trembling slightly and looking up at her while gripping one arm with her other hand.
"Then, are you ready to hear my offer? I'm sure you'll like it very much." Miku smiled like a predator watching a shivering little bunny—a bunny with enough lust to rub her cherry in a restroom despite the world ending.
Looking at her, Miku wanted to flash a toothy grin but held back. After all, if you looked closely, Saki Yoshida was actually a very beautiful girl. Most people probably wouldn't mind dating her, even if she wasn't "brand new."
Miku was certain that even Isao wouldn't be able to resist if this girl were dressed in provocative lingerie. And if Miku herself was right there beside her, he would undoubtedly give in... and then Miku would finally get what she wanted.
"So? Ready to listen? And to sweeten the deal, my proposal involves Isao." She smirked, seeing the little slut's eyes light up.
"Y-yes, I'm ready to listen, Miku-san." Saki nodded, making Miku exhale in relief. Phase one of her plan was in motion. Only a few more steps to go.
"Then listen closely..."
