Shit!

A sharp panic fared in my chest.

I threw my arm back, my hand finding Cassian's cheek and pushing his face away from my neck.

He resisted for a second, his brow furrowing in confusion, before he let me push him back a few inches, his dark eyes looking down at me with a lazy, heavy-lidded irritation.

"No!" I yelled into the phone, then forced my voice down to a normal volume, panting.

"No, Mom. It's… I have the phone on speaker. There's a cyclist passing me. He… he almost hit me. I'm on the path."

"You sound out of breath."

"Because I'm running," I said, my teeth clenched so hard my jaw clicked. Cassian was staring at me, his chest rising and falling against my back, his hips still twitching slightly where they were joined with mine.

He reached down, his fingers wrapping around my thigh, squeezing hard enough to leave marks.

"I'm coming back now. Just wait by the stairs. I'll be there in thirty minutes."

"Make it ten," she said, and the line went dead.
