Chapter 229 - A Two Billion Yen Consulting Fee!

Tianlang said, "I'm here for two reasons. First, would you like to move somewhere safer to continue your research?"

Lin Chen remained silent.

"What do you think?"

"Would you rather my wife abandon billions in assets to come with me, or would we spend a year apart, barely seeing each other?"

"Would I take our daughter, or would my wife?"

Tianlang cleared his throat. "I'm just asking. Even with protection, there's still some risk. Security personnel can't be with you at all times."

"My combat skills are decent. I can handle ten or eight ordinary adult men in a one-on-one fight. Don't worry about close-quarters attacks."

Tianlang stared at Lin Chen in astonishment.

"Mr. Lin, are you sure?"

"Taking on ten or eight ordinary men in a one-on-one fight isn't easy."

"My own skills are decent, but I'm not sure I could manage that."

Lin Chen moved instantly.

His fingertip grazed Tianlang's neck. Tianlang only realized what had happened when Lin Chen withdrew his hand, staring at him in shock.

If Lin Chen had been holding a razor blade between his fingers, that move could have instantly slit his throat.

"Mr. Lin, you—"

Tianlang touched his neck, a cold sweat breaking out.

Lin Chen said, "I'm a quick learner and my combat skills are decent. Up close, without firearms, no one would stand a chance against me."

"Your security team's priority is preventing sniper attacks."

Tianlang nodded.

If Lin Chen possessed strong combat abilities, their security work would be significantly easier.

"Mr. Lin, how's your marksmanship?" Tianlang asked.

"I've practiced at shooting ranges abroad. My skills are decent. Why do you ask?"

After a moment's consideration, Tianlang said, "Mr. Lin, I can find you a place to practice your shooting. If your skills improve, I'll apply for a firearm license for you."

Lin Chen's eyes lit up. "That sounds great."

"Remember, Mr. Lin, you can't use this casually, and you must ensure the firearm's safety. Losing a gun would be a major responsibility."

"Don't worry, it won't be lost," Lin Chen said confidently.

With the gun, he could store it in his system space. How could it possibly get lost in there?

"I'll need to get approval from higher-ups first. If your marksmanship passes the test, there's still a chance," Tianlang said.

Lin Chen nodded.

How could he possibly fail with his skill level?

He had taken Lin Xiaoqian to amusement parks many times, always playing the shooting gallery. He had even taken her to street-side shooting stalls.

While his marksmanship hadn't reached the Grandmaster level yet, he was already a Master!

Among China's 3.5 million soldiers, armed police, and other armed forces, those with Master-level marksmanship were undoubtedly fewer than a hundred.

"What about the other matter?" Lin Chen asked.

Tianlang replied, "Mr. Lin, your ability to quickly identify the aircraft's flaw suggests you have an extremely deep understanding of that model. Does it have any other vulnerabilities? Are you familiar with the flaws in other aircraft models?"

Lin Chen asked, "Did the airline contact you?"

Tianlang shook his head. "No. But higher-ups are concerned about this. After all, it concerns the safety of many citizens."

Lin Chen said, "I do know some things. But my current level of knowledge is definitely incomplete. Patching these flaws might not be very effective."

Tianlang shook his head. "Mr. Lin, you're mistaken. The severity of a vulnerability or backdoor determines how many factions are aware of it. The deepest backdoors are undoubtedly known to only a very few factions."

"It would be much safer if we patched those backdoors that many organizations know about."

Lin Chen suddenly understood.

"You're right."

Tianlang asked, "Mr. Lin, could you help us with this?"

Lin Chen pulled out his phone and checked. "Our country has over 4,200 aircraft in its airline fleet. I'm not sure how many were purchased from abroad."

"Let's just count 2,000."

"A million consultation fee per aircraft doesn't seem unreasonable, does it?"

Tianlang: "..."

Lin Chen continued, "Don't call me greedy. I'm taking on risks here. Why should I do it for free? These airlines are making bank. It's only fair I get a decent cut for my hard work."

"I'm not a saint."

Tianlang nodded slightly. "That's reasonable. Some airlines are privately owned. You don't need to risk your neck to hand over a huge slice of the pie to them for nothing."

Lin Chen: "You can charge less for state-owned enterprises and more for private ones. That's up to you to decide."

"Two thousand aircraft, one million each."

"I want two billion in consultation fees."

Tianlang: "Mr. Lin, do you know about the vulnerabilities in all aircraft models?"

Lin Chen said, "I know quite a bit. If you buy it from me for two billion and resell it to the airlines, you could probably make a substantial profit."

Tianlang nodded. "Mr. Lin, I can't make that decision myself."

"But I'll report this to my superiors."

"Can we negotiate the price down from two billion?"

Lin Chen shook his head. "The price is firm at two billion. When divided among the airlines, each one won't be paying much. I'm not willing to take the risk while you reap the rewards."

"Don't try to guilt-trip me."

"I'm not always the most moral person."

Tianlang nodded. "I'll report this to my superiors. Two billion is a significant sum, so it might take some time to get a response."

"No rush," Lin Chen said. "The airlines spend a fortune each year on foreign engineers for maintenance. The total cost must be astronomical."

"Some of those issues might not even be due to wear and tear."

Tianlang stood up. "Mr. Lin, I'll get back to you on both matters as soon as possible. If the authorities approve your concealed carry permit, you'll need to make time for firearms training."

"Understood."

Tianlang left soon after and immediately reported the matter to his superiors.

Several high-ranking officials gathered to discuss the proposal.

"If Lin Chen's marksmanship is up to par, I don't see any issues with him getting a firearms license. We can't afford to let a top-tier genius like him get into trouble. But isn't two billion yuan in consulting fees a bit excessive?"

One of the senior figures spoke up.

Another replied, "I think it's reasonable. If we don't pay him, he'll be in much greater danger. We have no moral or legal right to force him to provide his services for free."

"I'm not saying we shouldn't pay him, just that two billion is a bit steep," the third senior figure countered.

"Two billion... if the major airlines can eliminate a significant number of loopholes with his help, it would be a worthwhile investment. Their annual expenses would decrease considerably."

"Our country has thousands of commercial aircraft and millions of passengers traveling each year. Two billion for their safety is a bargain."

The senior figures discussed the matter for a while, finding little disagreement.

After all, the money wasn't coming out of their own pockets. The major airlines bore the responsibility for covering the costs of safety.

"Since everyone is in agreement, we'll organize safety training for personnel from the major airlines."

"Safety work must be implemented thoroughly and effectively."

The leading senior figure made the final decision.

Soon, an official document was sent to all the major airlines.

A three-day safety discussion conference would be held, and all airline executives would be required to attend.
