"Honey, make a wish quickly," Xu Mengyao said in a sweet voice after they finished singing "Happy Birthday."
Lin Chen closed his eyes and made a simple wish: for his family's safety. He had nothing else he needed.
He already had so much.
"Daddy, blow out the candles!" Lin Xiaoqian urged when she saw Lin Chen open his eyes.
"Are you excited to eat cake?" Lin Chen smiled as he blew out the candles. Xu Mengyao flipped the main light switch, and the room instantly lit up.
"Wife, thank you!" Lin Chen said, hugging Xu Mengyao and kissing her on the forehead.
Lin Xiaoqian looked up at them. "Daddy, why can't you kiss my mouth? Or Mom's?"
Xu Mengyao stood on tiptoe and quickly stole a kiss from Lin Chen.
*Mwah!*
Her lips brushed against his. Her face flushed crimson and her heart pounded wildly.
Lin Chen stared at her, stunned.
"Happy birthday, honey," Xu Mengyao said, this being one of her birthday gifts.
"Wife, quickly get into bed," Lin Chen urged.
He noticed Xu Mengyao's heart rate was already abnormal, and it was still accelerating.
"Okay," Xu Mengyao replied, lying down on the bed.
She didn't for a moment think Lin Chen would take advantage of the situation.
Soon, Xu Mengyao's hands and feet began trembling uncontrollably. Her flushed face gradually paled.
"Wife, take a deep breath."
"I'm here. You're safe with me," Lin Chen said softly.
Xu Mengyao trembled. "Honey, I can't control myself. I don't want to be like this. What's happening?"
"Mommy," Lin Xiaoqian said, her voice tense.
Lin Chen held Xu Mengyao's hand with one arm and wrapped the other around Lin Xiaoqian. "Qianqian, it's okay. Daddy's a doctor. Mommy will be alright."
"Wife, take a deep breath."
"Slowly calm yourself down."
After two or three minutes, Xu Mengyao's trembling stopped, but her face remained pale.
She sat up. "Honey, what's wrong with me?"
"I thought it was over, but then—" Xu Mengyao said bitterly.
"Mommy," Lin Xiaoqian said, hugging her tightly.
Lin Chen explained, "Wife, psychological disorders often involve some degree of fragmentation, and severe cases can even develop split personalities."
"You haven't developed a split personality, so it's not particularly severe. Something specific just triggered that dormant part of your consciousness."
Xu Mengyao's brow furrowed.

"You're already much better than before."
Tears welled up in Lin Xiaoqian's eyes. "Daddy, is Mommy sick? Can you cure her?"
Lin Chen kissed her forehead. "Qianqian, of course I can. Daddy's a very skilled doctor."
"Mmm... Daddy's the best," Lin Xiaoqian said.
Lin Chen stood up. "Anyone want some cake? Raise your hand if you want a slice—I'm about to cut it!"
"Daddy, me!"
"Honey, I'd like a small piece too."
Xu Mengyao and the others quickly got out of bed.
"Qianqian, let Mommy have the first slice. She bought the cake. Honey, your birthday gift was wonderful."
Lin Chen handed the first slice to Xu Mengyao.
A shy blush spread across her face.
She knew he wasn't referring to the small courtyard or the cake itself, but to their kiss just moments ago.
"Daddy, I want a big slice!" Lin Xiaoqian demanded.
Lin Chen cut her a generous slice. "Qianqian, when it's your birthday, I'll make you one myself. It'll taste even better."
"Daddy, how many days until my birthday?" Lin Xiaoqian asked eagerly.
Lin Chen chuckled. "Your birthday's still quite a ways off. But even when it's not your birthday, there are always other delicious treats to enjoy."
"Mmm-hmm."
Lin Xiaoqian smiled sweetly.
Soon, she tasted the cake. She only ate a little more than half. She used to love it, but after getting used to Lin Chen's cooking, this tasted rather ordinary.
Half an hour later, Lin Xiaoqian fell asleep listening to the story.
"Wife, let's go to bed too," Lin Chen said with a smile. "We need to wake up early tomorrow to watch the sunrise."
"Okay."
They climbed into bed, with Lin Chen and Xu Mengyao on either side of Lin Xiaoqian. Lin Chen heard Xu Mengyao's heart rate quicken, but it wasn't as pronounced as earlier.
"Honey, I want to hear a story too," Xu Mengyao said playfully.
"Alright."
As Lin Chen began telling the story, Xu Mengyao's heart rate gradually slowed. She was tired from the day and soon fell asleep.
Having stayed up all night, Lin Chen also quickly drifted off to sleep.
*Beep! Beep!*
The alarm rang at four in the morning.
Lin Chen opened his eyes, and Xu Mengyao groggily woke up.
"Good morning, wife," Lin Chen said with a smile.
"Good morning, honey," Xu Mengyao replied, her face flushing with shyness.
Yesterday morning they had only managed two hours of sleep, but last night they had slept soundly together all night—

Half an hour later, they were waiting at the sunrise viewing spot.
A red sun gradually rose from the horizon.
"It's so beautiful!" Lin Xiaoqian exclaimed in awe.
"Excuse me, handsome! Could you take a photo for us?"
Lin Chen turned to a young man standing nearby.
The youth nodded eagerly. "Of course, Brother Lin! I know you! You're my idol! You can carry two people up the mountain? I can barely make it up myself!"
Lin Chen smiled faintly and said nothing.
Without the system, he would have struggled to climb the mountain himself.
The youth quickly took their photos. In the pictures, Lin Chen held Lin Xiaoqian in his right arm and wrapped his left arm around Xu Mengyao. All three smiled sweetly.
