Chapter 231 - Chapter 230: Foolish Politicians, Internal Troubles at Shield of the Gods

Hearing Nick Fury's words, the Officer, whom Fury had just wanted to target and called 'Officer,' almost coughed up his lungs in anger.

What does he mean by giving us some surprises? Are you sure it's a surprise when Zhou Yi ties up the spies and puts them in the Police station, attracting a crowd of reporters? Also, what does he mean by needing to care about one's family and not being able to tell if a woman is acting? Isn't he clearly saying, 'Be careful, your wife has been doing things behind your back that you don't know about?' It was only thanks to someone holding him back; otherwise, this guy would have definitely rushed up and had a man-to-man showdown with Nick Fury.

"Director Fury, you may attend to your own matters now. For this mission, let's consider it as never having happened." The Security Council hastily set the tone for the mission. Nick Fury, having received approval, left the conference room without looking back.

It wasn't his first time dealing with these guys, nor was it his first time witnessing their creatively idiotic actions. So, he knew exactly what to do and where to go.

And after he left, the seven members of the Council, who were almost driven mad by him, were still shouting incessantly.

"Let go of me, Pierce! Let go of me! How dare he speak to me like that! I'm going to challenge him to a duel! I'm going to show him what I'm capable of!"

Facing such a troublesome teammate, the guy holding him back, whom he called Alexander, really wished he could pin him to the ground right now and give him a good beating, just to show him how much he could really do.

Is Nick Fury someone a Politician like you, who climbed to power by running your mouth, can compare to? He's a Level Ten Agent, a guy with the reputation of being the king of agents. The number of people he's killed could fill every room in your house. If I didn't stop you, I'd probably have to search the entire World like a stamp album to find you next time.

Because there's no doubt. Your body parts would definitely be scattered to every corner of the World.

However, even with such disdain for this idiotic teammate, Alexander still spoke kindly, gradually extinguishing the anger in his heart. This is the ridiculousness of politics; only by being good at dealing with people can one rise high. And this is the life motto of the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and current Commissioner of the World Security Council, Alexander Goodwin Pierce.

Leaving the Security Council meeting, which for him was a complete waste of time, Nick Fury went directly from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Triskelion headquarters back to the Helicarrier. Strictly speaking, this should be Commander Hill's domain. However, because the Triskelion currently had a bunch of idiots, Nick Fury preferred to stay in this place.

Here, he had capable assistants who could help him solve problems, and many secrets that he couldn't tell anyone else, secrets that only he could control. Most importantly, here he could completely disregard the idiotic orders of those idiotic council members.

Honestly, if the matter hadn't come to light, he wouldn't have known that Umbrella, the Military's super soldier program, and that crazy Mutant extermination plan also had the Security Council's involvement behind them.

Sometimes he even wondered if these idiots were the World Security Council or the World Security Destruction Council.

Anyway, Nick Fury had already identified these guys as idiotic teammates. If possible, S.H.I.E.L.D. should distance itself from these guys as much as possible. Otherwise, one day, it would be dragged into the abyss by these idiotic teammates, leading directly to an inescapable doom.

But there was one point Nick Fury was actually very clear about. That is, S.H.I.E.L.D. cannot distance itself from the Security Council, because they are directly subordinate. S.H.I.E.L.D. is merely a tool of the Council, and a tool cannot escape the control of its Master.

So he could only try to do what he could, for example, hiding some secrets within S.H.I.E.L.D., making them secrets known to no one but him. Only secrets can guarantee enough security; he firmly believed this.

Arriving at his most familiar command console, Nick Fury immediately entered work mode.

"Has Coulson returned?"

"Officer, Coulson just left here for the center. You should know what he found in that chaotic battle in New York?" Commander Hill, looking a bit pale, appeared before him. As always, she was as decisive and swift as a Robot.

"Of course I know what he found. A big hand. Tell the people at the center to give me the report directly after they're done studying it, and then seal that hand and send it to the most secret place." Waving his hand, he decided the subsequent issues. Nick Fury looked at Commander Hill somewhat strangely.

"I remember you seemed to be sick, why are you still here?"

"I feel much better, this doesn't affect my work." Commander Hill answered quite decisively, but it made Director Fury's expression turn strange.

In fact, Commander Hill would take leave at this time every month; it was a woman's monthly routine. And only today did Fury realize that even an ice-cold, tough woman like her was different from ordinary women when she had her period.

Should he praise Commander Hill's excellent recovery ability, or her strong endurance? Fury pondered the question in his mind, ultimately deciding it was better to ignore it.

"You should actually be resting at this time!" He could only express his concern for this assistant, who was like a daughter to him. He still showed a different kind of emotion.

"Coulson alone can't control the situation. Without me to arrange things for him, he won't be able to handle those people from the Military!" Commander Hill said with a calm expression, but Director Fury knew this wasn't the real reason.

The reason she was here was because she was concerned about someone in that Superhero free-for-all in New York. And that person was definitely not Coulson.

Coulson thought he was hiding it well, but he didn't know that the one who understood Commander Hill the most wasn't him, her 'woman's friend,' but Nick Fury, who had watched Maria Hill grow up like a father. He knew exactly what Maria Hill was thinking. The reason he hadn't pointed it out was simply to let her realize it herself.

But now, it seemed it might be too late. Maria Hill seemed to be falling deeper and deeper, and she hadn't even realized it herself.

Nick Fury really wanted to guide her, but when he thought about a certain piece of news he had just heard today, he felt there was no need. She would give up, as long as that news was reported back.

So he ultimately decided that it was better to maintain his cool image if possible. He didn't want his subordinates to see him as a doting mother; that would be bad for both his authority and internal management.

Continuing with work topics, Director Fury began to ask about other matters.

"Have you found out who leaked the super soldier program?"

"Currently, it appears to be a civilian organization!" Commander Hill flipped through the documents in her hand, finding the conclusion analyzed by the intelligence personnel.

"A civilian organization? Since when did a civilian organization have such great capability to infiltrate the Department of Defense's System and obtain such highly classified information from it?" Nick Fury felt like he was listening to a joke. "If even civilian organizations have such abilities, then what are our intelligence departments doing? Sometimes I really find that everyone else's things are better. Even my subordinates, they get paid so much, but they're completely useless. Otherwise, why do others have to tell us about Umbrella before we discover so many unspeakable things going on there?"

To Nick Fury's complaints, Commander Hill wisely remained silent. Or rather, she was actually just like Director Fury, quite dissatisfied with the work results of these intelligence personnel. If they couldn't even suppress a civilian organization, then their value was truly questionable.

Facing the questioning of their two Superiors, those involved in intelligence work couldn't help but feel a surge of indignation. They were all elite personnel transferred from various departments, yet they were being made to look so bad by a group of grassroots individuals. Anyone in their shoes would find it intolerable.

"Now tell me, my elite intelligence personnel. Have you found any information about this organization?" After the embarrassment, Nick Fury still gave them a chance. He couldn't really fire these intelligence workers; without them, S.H.I.E.L.D. would be like having its eyes and ears removed.

And as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intelligence personnel, their reaction was not slow at all. The moment Director gave them an opening, someone immediately provided the intelligence he wanted.

"This organization is called 'Raging Tide.' We have already obtained a list and information of some of the key figures in this organization. We can launch an arrest operation at any time!"

"Finally, you haven't disappointed me again." To the relief of these intelligence personnel, Director Fury finally stopped using his sarcastic tongue to mock them. He nodded, assigning their tasks. "Arrange personnel to monitor their every move. I want to know what else they have in their hands, and how exactly they obtained this intelligence. The most crucial point: don't tip them off. Tell Coulson that this mission is assigned to him."

"You've been assigning Coulson a bit too many tasks lately!" Commander Hill expressed some incomprehension regarding Nick Fury's tendency to give everything to Coulson. She knew that for Director Fury, Coulson and she herself played roles like his left and right arms.

But that doesn't mean everything should be handed to them. Coulson is, after all, only a Level Eight Agent. In the entire S.H.I.E.L.D., there are more than a dozen Agents at his same level. This practice of entrusting everything to Coulson could easily lead to some people having particular ideas.

One must know that even Agents will engage in fierce struggles for power. Especially when vying for control of S.H.I.E.L.D., this incredibly powerful large organization, such struggles are often even more intense and severe.

"That's because only you two are the ones I can trust the most." Director Fury only stated his trust, but he didn't voice his worries. A trace of something within S.H.I.E.L.D. had already been discovered by him, and precisely because of this discovery, he was so wary of certain individuals.

If a secret cannot be kept, it will only lead to disaster. He was worried about how many people had infiltrated and were trying to uncover his secrets.
