Calen barely had time to breathe before solar arrows rained down at him. Though it hurt to even move with his injuries, he invoked Solar Dance (#1) to evade, then sent Solar Beam (#2) toward the mirror.
A dome of crystalline light unfolded around the entity—Solar Eclipse (#14)—absorbing the beams into its core and firing them back at triple strength. Calen answered with Solar Torrent (#17), rivers of sunlight sweeping forward. The two attacks collided, cancelling each other out in a massive blast that forced Calen back. The entity pressed forward, striking with Solar Flare Strike (#15). The blinding flare seared Calen's eyes and blistered his skin, and a blade followed, carving across his ribs. Blood vaporized in the heat, leaving him gasping.
Calen staggered back, firing Solar Arrows (#4) in desperation. The entity raised Solar Aegis (#8), a crystalline shield shimmering as it absorbed the barrage. Then it countered with Solar Rage (#5), blade arcs hammering into Calen's shoulder, bone exposed beneath the blaze. He reeled, lungs burning.
He tried to defend with Solar Veil (#3), radiant walls shielding him, but the entity unleashed another Solar Torrent (#17), overwhelming the barrier until it cracked. Calen was hurled back, ribs splintering. Desperate, he invoked Solar Brand (#18), marking the entity with a radiant sigil. Its defenses faltered, aura dimming. But the mirror branded him too—the sigil burned into his chest, draining his qi, making his limbs heavy. The entity slammed him into the ground, bones splintering beneath the impact.
The battlefield fractured into chaos as the Solar Entity split into radiant clones with Solar Mirage (#13). They surged forward, each wielding techniques Calen knew too well. One bound him with Solar Shackles (#11), tearing muscle as he strained against the radiant chains. Another unleashed Solar Rain (#7), meteors scorching his flesh until blood hissed into vapor. A third struck with Solar Punch (#6), detonating against his jawline, staggering him. Before he could recover, a clone detonated with Solar Nova (#12) at point‑blank range. The explosion hurled him into a crater, ribs snapping, spirit fraying as his vision blurred.
Then the worst came. When the five-minute limit on its clones ended, the Solar Entity dissolved into sunlight. Its form blazed with unstable radiance, its body flickering as if it sought a higher transformation it could not reach. Without a soul, it could not ascend into Apotheosis. The light itself became a weapon—chaotic bursts hammering Calen, crushing him with attack after attack, peeling flesh from bone, shredding his spirit until he teetered on collapse. For a heartbeat he thought it was over—that even his perfected self had been surpassed.
Finally, the entity struck him down. Calen collapsed, chest scorched, qi leaking from his core. His vision blurred, despair whispering, "You cannot win." He is you, perfected.
But Calen clenched his fists. I've endured centuries of torment. I've crawled through flame and stone. I will not fall here.
His body broke apart into solar ashes before reforming, restoring flesh and bone to perfection and reclaiming half the qi he had lost in battle. This was Solar Rebirth (#19)—a power he could call upon only once per day, and only if his spirit still held enough qi to spark the rebirth.
The sky split as the Solar Entity raised its hands, summoning Solar Judgment (#16). From above, colossal beams of sunlight descended like divine punishment, meant to crush everything beneath them. The technique was overwhelming in scale but slow to channel, draining vast reserves of qi. Calen did not meet it head‑on. Instead, he unleashed Solar Rain (#7)—a storm of miniature suns raining down like burning droplets. The barrage forced the entity to defend against dozens of piercing projectiles, breaking its concentration on Judgment. In that instant, Calen cast Solar Shackles (#11). Chains of radiant light erupted, wrapping around the entity's limbs, binding its arms and legs, and cutting off its ability to sustain the sky‑splitting beams until they dissolved.
With the opening created, Calen invoked the twentieth technique—Solar Apotheosis (#20). His body dissolved into pure sunlight, becoming a living sun. Radiance poured from him, overwhelming, sovereign. The valley transformed into a Solar Domain, a radiant field stretching miles, its duration only twenty‑five minutes. This domain was inseparable from Apotheosis, a matching set. Within it, his techniques amplified, while the entity weakened.
Calen surged forward, Solar Dance (#1) trails weaving rivers of light. His fists detonated with Solar Punch (#6), blade arcs slicing with Solar Rage (#5). Solar Rain (#7) fell as meteors, Solar Shackles (#11) blazed hotter, and Solar Nova (#12) bursts doubled in radius. Every technique flowed seamlessly, amplified by the domain.
The entity fought back, but its strikes faltered. Its beams dimmed, its shields cracked. Calen pressed harder, hundreds of blows in minutes, fists and blades colliding, bodies slamming, and auras detonating. The valley became a storm of golden fire.
At last, Calen struck with Solar Judgment (#16), a beam descending from the heavens. The entity raised its own, but within the domain, Calen's was stronger. The beams clashed, then shattered.
Calen roared, body blazing, and unleashed all his solar qi, overwhelming the entity. The mirror dissolved, shattered into radiant fragments, and was consumed by the domain.
He crashed to the ground, his dantian drenched in exhaustion, every vein scorched by the strain. He had won—but the final trial awaited, more terrible than all before. At last his body gave way, and he passed out.
____
Ten days later he awoke, qi still frayed, core torn by the wounds of Solar Apotheosis. Yet he was alive, and though battered, he could move.
After five days passed, the golden sun descended, its rays crushing him with unimaginable force. Again and again his body burst into light, spirit shredded, soul trembling at the edge of collapse. He was annihilated a million times beneath its radiance, each death more painful than the last. Yet each time he rose, broken but unyielding. He meditated in the ashes, rebuilt his form, and faced the sun once more. Despair whispered louder, but he refused to yield. For four hundred years he endured, his body humbled, his spirit tested, and his will sharpened.
At last the sun relented. Its radiance fused into his core, merging with his very essence. His body blazed with golden light, his spirit soared, and his cultivation transcended. He had become one with the sun—radiant, sovereign, beyond mortal measure.
In total, Calen had endured one thousand eight hundred years within the crucible—five centuries beneath the suns, two centuries at the board, seven centuries in the labyrinth, and four more beneath the golden sun itself. His body was scarred, his spirit tempered, and his will unyielding.
The dome shuddered, and he was expelled from the realm, his trial complete, and Calen was sent back to the origin realm.
At that same moment, deep within the Realm of Transformation, two other seals broke—echoing Zakia's triumph. Piece by piece, the path forward opened as each companion endured their crucible.
