The darkness shattered like a mirror, or perhaps like a dream breaking apart — yet even when it cleared, the world remained black. This time, however, Liu Xi could see the truth within it.
He had found Yan Jin, or rather, what was left of him. The man was utterly dead, his body frozen in the instant before he could self-detonate his Heavenly Flame. After being devoured by the Void Devouring Flame, his perception had been dragged into the void, stripped of control over his own body. From that moment, his death had been inevitable.
When Liu Xi subdued the Void Devouring Flame, Yan Jin was already beyond saving — only his flame remained, waiting to be taken.
A single thought from Liu Xi drew out the fused Heavenly Flame within Yan Jin's corpse — a fire born of magma's heat and metal's sharpness. It pulsed faintly in his palm like a dying heart.
Liu Xi opened his mouth and released another sealed flame — the Nine Serene Wind Flame, its cold, ghostly aura filling the air. He smiled faintly. "Three Heavenly Flames already… or four, depending how you count it. This one is a fusion flame, after all."
His hand tightened, and his eyes turned calm. "Time to reap the harvest."
He drew out the jade vial that once held Hun Xuzi's 9th Tier Mysterious Pill, crushed it, and swallowed the pill within. The duel against the Void Devouring Flame had consumed a tremendous amount of energy; truly refining that monstrous fire would not be an easy task.
The medicinal power burst open the moment it entered his body. Though weaker than his Lightning Calamity Pill, it was still several times stronger than ordinary 9th Tier Treasure Pills. Waves of surging vitality restored everything he had spent. His soul — vast, luminous, and imperial — expanded until it seemed to fill the world, reaching once more to its peak.
Boom!
Even the slightest movement stirred fierce winds that tore through the space around him. The very energies of heaven and earth trembled, resonating with him as if eager to obey.
Liu Xi reached down, grasped both Yan Jin's fused Heavenly Flame and the Nine Serene Wind Flame, and threw them into his mouth. The azure fire that was his own essence rose from within, curling upward in elegant swirls. The two flames struggled briefly before their brands were burned away, their essences melted down and absorbed into his Green Lotus Core Flame.
And then came the main course — the Void Devouring Flame.
Liu Xi's gaze fell upon the cluster of black fire hovering before him. This was the origin essence of the Void Devouring Flame itself, and even now, bound by his will, it exuded a dreadful, abyssal pressure. Were it ever to go unchecked, it could consume all things — burn the sky, erase the world, and plunge existence back into the void.
Its potential was terrifying beyond measure.
"After refining several Dou Saints' Dou Qi and a 9th Tier Mysterious Pill, my strength has already reached the late 8-Star Dou Saint level… The 9-Star realm is within reach," Liu Xi murmured, his eyes shining like starlight.
He raised his hands into a seal and sat cross-legged. The Void Devouring Flame surged forward, wrapping him in black fire. His breathing stilled. The lotus mark between his brows blazed, radiating divine brilliance as the void fire began to burn.
The pain came instantly. Even with his eyes closed, his brow furrowed deeply — the agony lanced through every nerve, past flesh and bone, straight into the soul itself. A lesser soul, even one at the Perfect Heaven Realm, would have been reduced to nothing.
But Liu Xi's Emperor Realm Soul was different. Even if shattered, its fragments could reform; its light could never truly be extinguished. The burning void did not destroy him — it refined him.
The Emperor Realm Soul… could still evolve. The Dou Qi Continent was not the end. Beyond it lay the vast Great Thousand Worlds, a greater horizon waiting to be reached.
The flames of void and azure intertwined, devouring each other until the Void Devouring Flame's essence was wholly refined. Black and Green merged, and upon the surface of the Green Lotus Core Flame appeared faint black streaks, like cracks upon divine jade.
The lotus now shimmered with twin auras — a holy white radiance and a dark, enigmatic luster. It was neither good nor evil, saint nor demon, a perfect balance of purity and madness. From it pulsed a rhythm older than time itself.
Liu Xi could not describe what he had become. His soul was transforming, gaining eternal awareness; his body was evolving toward a higher form of life; even his Dou Qi was undergoing a rebirth, climbing by the heartbeat.
Power and vitality flooded his limbs, every cell singing in unison. His flesh, his soul, and his energy had fused into one, each amplifying the other. The limits of the human body — once a boundary of fragility — were breaking apart beneath him.
He could feel it. A single thought could now stir the tides of heaven and earth.
Beyond his awareness, the entire Yao Clan's Spatial Realm trembled. From the mountains and ruins, heaven and earth energy surged like a tide, converging toward him. Every breath he took drew more power inward; every exhalation made the air itself resonate.
The countless corpses that littered the battlefield — those of the Hun Clan, Lei Clan, Yan Clan, and Yao Clan — began to wither to dust. Their residual Dou Qi dissolved, drawn into the storm of energy flooding the sky and feeding Liu Xi's transformation.
When at last he opened his eyes, the tide subsided. His gaze was deep and boundless, like the starry heavens themselves. The world seemed to still before it.
He took a single, slow breath — and the remaining torrents of heaven and earth energy flowed into his lungs. The azure flame swept through his body, devouring, purifying, and refining all, leaving behind only pristine Dou Qi that circulated through his limbs like a living river.
He stood and stretched slightly. The motion released a low, thunderous crack — the sound of impurity expelled from his body, scattering into lightning that flashed across the sky.
Liu Xi smiled faintly. His face glowed faintly, radiating divine serenity, yet between his brows lingered a trace of the Void Devouring Flame's darkness — a captivating, dangerous charm that seemed to pull at the soul.
Then came the calm, magnetic voice that filled the silent realm.
"Late 9-Star Dou Saint… Four Heavenly Flames and a 9th Tier Pill. To think such a reaction could occur — from this moment on, I stand invincible upon the continent."
Extending his senses, Liu Xi realized that Zhu Bei was gone. He closed his eyes and expanded his Spiritual Perception outward.
Instantly, his awareness engulfed the entire Spatial Realm — and beyond.
Beasts roared across the lands. The heavens and the earth were filled with their presence: Ancient Void Dragons, Heaven Demon Phoenixes, Nine Serene Deep Ground Pythons, Golden Flame Holy Lions, and Heavenly Luan Birds surged together in an ocean of might.
At their forefront stood Zi Yan.
Opposite her, a boundless sea of blood rolled like a storm. Countless figures rose within it, and from the crimson waves stepped a handsome middle-aged man in white. His expression was serene and scholarly, but the faint red gleam in his eyes betrayed his nature.
He stopped above the sea of blood, hands clasped behind his back. His aura crushed the heavens. A voice, calm yet filled with unchallengeable dominance, rolled forth like thunder.
"Our clan's Heavenly Flame — the Void Devouring Flame — has gone missing. I have come to retrieve it. Dragon Emperor, do not stand in my way… or do not blame me for what follows."
Liu Xi's lips curved into a faint smile. "Hun Tiandi, huh…? Then allow me to test your worth — to see if you're truly someone I must scheme to destroy. Don't disappoint me."
Before his words had even faded, his figure vanished into the air without a trace — not a ripple, not a whisper, as though he had never been there at all.
