Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – Mercy or Death

The night was alive with neon and sin. Deep in the city's heart, a high-end restaurant buzzed with drunken laughter, clinking silverware, and whispered deals best left unheard. Beneath velvet luxury and false smiles, this was neutral ground—where even killers and smugglers dropped their blades for a glass of whiskey.

Until the room went dead silent.

Arora had walked in.

As head of the Black Rose, her name had clawed its way out of the shadows two years ago to rule the city's underworld like a silent storm. No one knew where she came from—only that she had taken over a dying gang and forged it into a force even the police dared not cross. They said she killed her first boss with her bare hands, made extortionists pay back their victims before burying them, and traded in balance rather than cheap fear. If Arora decided you didn't belong in her city, you simply vanished.

Near the bar, a man in a cheap suit tried to mask his trembling. Zena was a small-time thug, once foolish enough to cheat one of Arora's people. He laughed too loudly, hand shaking around his glass. "Come on," he scoffed to his companion. "You think she scares me? She just got lucky. Two years and everyone treats her like royalty—"

His voice cut off as sharp heels clicked against marble. A cold hush swept the room.

Arora moved in simple, razor-sharp black. Her coat brushed her knees, and a silver pendant glinted at her throat like an unsheathed blade. Her gaze swept the crowd without stopping—until it landed on Zena.

"Still breathing?" Her tone was calm, laced with quiet amusement.

Zena froze, color draining from his face. "B-Black Rose..."

"You owe me a payment, Zena."

"I-I'll get it, I swear! Just give me a week!" he stammered.

"You had two," she said.

Before anyone registered the movement, two of her fingers struck a precise nerve on his shoulder. Zena gasped, collapsing instantly onto the marble floor, paralyzed by agonizing pain.

"Acupressure," she murmured, crouching beside him. "You'd be surprised how many ways the human body can scream without shedding a drop of blood."

Her tone wasn't angry; it was worse. It was pure disappointment.

"Let this be a reminder," she whispered, straightening up. "You cheat my people, you pay in pain first, then money." She turned toward the frozen waiter behind the counter. "Tell your manager to stop hosting deals under this roof. Or next time, I'll shut this place down myself."

The waiter nodded frantically as Arora turned on her heel, her coat swirling behind her. Every pair of eyes followed her exit in stunned silence.

Outside, rain fell soft and steady. She paused beneath a flickering streetlight and lit a cigarette, smoke curling like a ghost around her sharp silhouette. Inside the restaurant, Zena remained pinned to the floor, whispering prayers he had never believed in.

The legend of the Black Rose had grown one chapter longer. For those ruling the city's shadows, the message was absolute: there was an undisputed queen in town—and mercy was not her language.
