Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Trying Hard

『Felix Karl Grimm』

"This is pretty interesting. Do you really feel with these things? They don't feel like flesh, and biologically speaking, they are in the wrong place. Though Cursed Techniques never really cared about that. They feel really weird too, almost like it's made of Positive Energy but not at the same time."

"...Can you just heal me please? I am in unspeakable agony here."

"Right, on it. Tell me if you feel anything weird from this, alright?"

I groaned as the pretty doctor lady, Shoko Ieri if I remember correctly, put her hand on my back and channeled positive energy through my body. The positive energy being pushed into my body felt like a warm massage coursing through me and my crumpled, honestly rather sad looking wings started straightening up again. Apparently, the broken wings persisted even when I switched out from the ability which was a joy to find out.

"Gah... you're a lifesaver, Shoko-sensei."

She shrugged her shoulders and sat back down on her chair, nonchalantly grabbing her half finished can of beer and taking a sip.

"You can drop the Sensei, I don't teach any classes. I just heal, because they pay me really well. If you get beaten to bits again, I'm almost always here."

"Yeah, it's a good thing she doesn't teach anything, her explanations are worse than not getting any."

Gojo commented from the side, he hadn't left after bringing me and was instead just browsing on his phone while I was getting healed. Without even looking in his direction, she tossed a crumpled tissue at him which bounced off Infinity and landed on the floor.

"It's not my fault you are bad at understanding my explanations about Reverse Cursed Energy."

He shrugged and got up from his chair before strutting over and picking me up by the back of the shirt as I was still limp on the infirmary bed. Then as if nothing was wrong, he hoisted me up like a newborn kitten.

"Oi."

"Don't be so grumpy, we have to go grab your belongings from your house, and get you your uniform. You're going to be staying at Jujutsu High after all."

I sighed.

"Fine, but don't pick me up like that. I can still walk."

"We're gonna have to teleport anyway, remember? Now, gimme your address."

Gah, I can feel my migraine coming back.

"Welcome to your new home Grimm-kun! You can do anything you want to this dorm, that is one privilege of being a student here, you can even hang up lewd posters. Normally, your senpai's would be greeting you, but all the third years are absent, and the second years are on missions right now. You'll meet all of them sooner than later though, not many students here."

I nodded and piled my boxes into one corner of the room. The dorms were a somewhat large traditional Japanese building. The individual rooms themselves were roughly equal to my apartment back in central Tokyo. But size aside, the view of the forest right outside the dorm was pretty damn nice.

Before Night City, I've never been a big nature guy, but after that I think I have developed an appreciation for nature most people do not have.

"Right, so, Gojo-sensei. What is the curriculum here? What classes do we take and when? What's the schedule?"

Gojo rubbed the back of his head awkwardly and laughed.

"You see, there aren't that many teachers, because they also work as active sorcerers. Basically, I am the only teacher who can consistently give lessons here, so classes are... whenever I feel like it! And Kusakabe is there too."

He gave me a thumbs up with a smile, but I felt my enthusiasm withering.

"...What kinda school is this place?"

I came here to learn, but it looked to me like there really wasn't much learning that was going to be done. What school has only two teachers for Patrons sake!?

Disregarding my annoyance, Gojo slapped my shoulder.

"Don't worry, don't worry. That's just what happens when you have so few students. But the good part of this is that you can always ask for private training with the teachers if you manage to catch them when they are free. Every student needs a different kind of education due to their differing specialties. If you want, we can have a one on one lesson together after you're better rested."

Surprisingly enough, Gojo put forward a rather rational argument. Which was rather difficult to amend with the guy who excitedly grilled me about the world of Cyberpunk for over an hour as I packed my bags instead of helping.

"You know what? I think I'll take that. Also, could you do me a favor and get me a metric ton of gun and car parts? And does this place have a mechanic workshop?"

He rubbed his chin and let out a noise of dawning comprehension.

"Ohh, you can actually make guns?"

"Yeah, I disassembled and reassembled enough of my guns back in Night City enough to know how to make one from scratch. And maybe I'll build myself a bike too."

While Novice Mechanics was, in the end, Novice, there was the fact I got it in the world of Cyberpunk. And according to the Dealer's Handbook, when I got a skill it was adapted to the world that I was in. So that Novice Mechanics(Cyberpunk) was actually roughly a year of techie training.

That is to say, I could make most guns I used, at least the ones that didn't have smart or rail gun tech. I could even repair cars and shit.

"Alright, only if you make me some too, I'll hang it on my wall."

Without waiting to hear my answer, Gojo teleported away. Leaving my exhausted self alone to finally unwind.

A gun wouldn't nearly be as strong as my wings, but it had the advantage of being fast, and the even bigger advantage of my incredible accuracy. A gun was only ineffective until you took an Overture shot to the eyeball.

I would know, that was my go-to way of dealing with overly augmented people. And even Kenjaku himself approved of this tactic.

Shaking my head, I dismissed the thought about killing for a second to throw myself onto my soft mattress before rifling around under the bed and pulling out two tickets. A bronze and a gold one.

The bronze item for making that binding vow with Gojo, and the Gold Trait for getting my ass kicked the fuck out by Yaga.

Starting with the Bronze Item, I tore it apart.

Rolling Bronze Item Gacha...

A Common Item!

[Cookie Jar]

|Common Item|

Cookie Clicker - One of the flagship products of "The Bakery", a glass jar that contains a practically limitless supply of perfectly warm and fresh chocolate chip cookies, endlessly produced by the compressed universe contained inside the jar, optimized solely for cookie production. Note: DO NOT BREAK THE JAR. Note2: DO NOT BREAK THE JAR; THE BAKERY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF BREAKING THE JAR.

Suddenly in my hands was a cookie jar, it felt slightly warm to the touch and looked completely ordinary except for the label which showed a cookie being dipped into a glass of milk with the words next to it 'Hail the Bakery. Hail the Cookies.'.

I looked at the jar.

This fucking thing had a universe inside of it?

W-

W-what would happen if I broke it?

Making a mental note to treat the jar with great care and caution from now on, I unscrewed the lid and took out a cookie before biting into it.

"Holy shit that is so good."

Potentially damming consequences and the implication of the jar itself, the cookies were damn good. Perfectly warm, the chocolate chips had a refined taste, the cookie itself was the perfect balance between crumbly and soft.

This roll just put me in a good mood, hopefully the gold trait will continue this pattern.

Putting the jar on my bedside I tore the next ticket.

Rolling Gold Trait Gacha...

An Uncommon Trait.

[Rodrigues]

|Uncommon Trait|

You are a Brazilian, but not only that, you are a descendant of the legendary Jetstream Sam. Not only do you have the Brazilian ability to double jump, but you are also talented in swordsmanship and swordsmithing.

I felt a strange heat wash over me, just like when I got the Kure trait. But this one felt weirder, I felt slightly more aware now. It felt like it compounded with all of me other traits such as Dexterity and Kure elevated them too. And I already have some training with the sword too, with this I just became considerably deadlier.

...Am I a Kure Brazilian now?

Do I call myself Felix Karl Kure Grimm Rodrigues now?

What the fuck do my genes look at this point? I was Half German half British before getting the Gacha. I got the Kure genes which are Japanese, and now I have the genes of Samuel Rodrigues himself, making me Brazilian too.

Not that I'm complaining, Sam's genetics were undoubtedly far better than whatever my parents gave me. Thankfully, my looks did not change too much, my muscles looked a bit more defined, and my face looked somewhat better, but that was about it.

Satisfied with my rolls, I took off my shirt and chucked it into one corner of the room before cracking open the window to let some fresh air in and threw myself onto the mattress, falling asleep before I even hit the bed.

『Felix Karl Kure Grimm Rodrigues(?)』

Bam!

""We heard there was a new student!""

I was jolted awake by my door being slammed open, on instinct, I was about to reach under my pillow for a gun before my groggy mind caught up with what was happening. Rubbing my eyes I saw three people standing in the doorway.

One boy with a solid build and pink hair, he had two eyelid shaped tattoos under his eyes and was very recognizable as the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. John Kaisen himself, Yuji Itadori.

There was one girl too, a shorter girl with auburn hair and eyes, she wore a modified Jujutsu High uniform with a cut-off top and a knee-length skirt with leggings. She also had considerable... assets, maybe even bigger than Lucy. Kugisomething Nobara.

In contrast to the excited duo, someone else was standing in the back and facepalming, he looked like the picture definition of gloomy depression with sullen black eyes and messy spiky black hair. The potential man, Megumi.

"Yes?"

Still confused from my sudden waking, I couldn't help but speak out, but my confusion was ignored by the two as they entered my room with gusto.

"Sorry for waking you up dude, thought you'd be awake at this time but apparently not. Gojo-sensei told us about you. I'm Yuji Itadori, I just got accepted a few days ago, like you. I like tall girls with big asses, like Jenifer Lawrence. Nice to meet you!"

Like a beacon of enthusiasm Yuji spoke as I pushed myself out of bed, he extended a hand and I shook it. His grip felt incredibly solid, like shaking the hands of a steel rod wrapped in flesh.

"Likewise, I'm Felix Karl Grimm, you can just call me Grimm."

Nobara on the other hand, did not say anything at first and instead put a hand on her chin and looked me up and down as if she were an architect studying a building. Her gaze stayed on my face for a beat longer before she hummed to herself affirmingly and nodded.

"Phew, good to know this school has at least one good-looking boy. I'm Kugisaki Nobara, the prettiest girl in school."

"Hey, ain't that mean?"

"Shut it Itadori, it's not my fault this school has a severe lack of any proper boys! Anyway, it's nice to meet you Grimm-kun."

For a solid moment I was stunned into silence before nodding. This girl was rather frank wasn't she? Kinda reminded me of Becca.

"Yeah, alright, I can see why you'd call yourself the most beautiful girl in school. Nice to meet you too, Kugisaki-chan."

She puffed her chest out and pointed to me before turning to the other two accusingly.

"See that, you two? That's how a real man is supposed to treat a lady!"

Megumi let out an agonized suffering sigh before stepping forward and putting a hand on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry for those two, I'm pretty sure they were born that way. I'm Megumi Fushiguro, if you need some help, I'm available."

"Hey, what's that supposed to mean!?"

His words sparked another argument between the trio and I couldn't but exhale softly.

What a colorful bunch.

A/N: Jujutsu High is barely a school, I don't even know what to call it, it is a school with less people in it than the average classroom. Just how little shit Gege gave about the school part of Jujutsu Kaisen reveals itself under the slightest scrutiny lol.

These rolls were definitely something, the Cookie Jar is one of my absolute favorite items and the Rodriguez trait is great, especially with Grimm's skillset, if that guy leans New Shadow Style, everyone is cooked to hell and back. Also, we finally meet the Kaisen Trio, the timeline is shortly before the Detention Center Debacle so you guys know what that means!
