Batgirl and Valeria Richards stood poised on opposite sides of the Battle Arena, the air thick with anticipation. A collective roar rose from the crowd, a mix of cheers and excited shouts. Franklin, Kamala, Doreen, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Cyborg added their enthusiastic voices, a wave of support for both finalists. Harley Quinn, ever the boisterous fan, let out a whoop that cut through the noise.
Robin watched with intense focus, his posture rigid as he analyzed every movement. Ivy maintained a calm, analytical gaze, while Raven's subtle smile showed a flicker of genuine amusement. The stage was set, the energy electric, as the two trainers prepared for the ultimate test of skill and partnership.
Orion Oak's voice boomed through the Battle Arena, a warm invitation to the grand finale.
"Welcome, esteemed trainers, to the final match of our inaugural Pokémon Tournament!"
Latias, in her human form, glided her camera drone through the air, capturing every angle.
"On one side, the tactical genius of Gotham, Batgirl, with her incredible Froakie!"
The crowd erupted in cheers, Batgirl giving a confident nod.
"And on the other, the brilliant mind of the Fantastic Four, Valeria Richards, and her formidable Lunatone!"
Valeria offered a small, determined smile as the cheers swelled.
"For this final showdown, we return to a neutral ground!" Orion announced. "No environmental transformations, no hidden advantages. This flat, pristine battleground emphasizes pure skill, strategy, and the raw power of your Pokémon!"
The choice of a flat arena was deliberate, designed to remove any environmental advantages and allow the Pokémon and their trainers to showcase their fundamental abilities without external interference. This final test was a true measure of their partnership.
Orion's voice echoed throughout the arena, setting the stage for the final clash.
"Trainers, send out your Pokémon!"
Batgirl tossed her Premier Ball. CLICK! Froakie materialized, landing with a soft thump on the polished floor. Its usually vibrant blue fur seemed a little duller, its foamy scarf less buoyant, showing the effects of three hard-fought battles. Batgirl felt a pang of worry, a familiar ache for her partner.
(Flashback)
She had offered Froakie a way out, before the match, a chance to rest and let someone else take the spotlight. Froakie had refused, its large eyes holding an unwavering spark of determination. It had croaked softly, then nudged her hand, a silent promise to fight until the end. That quiet resolution had strengthened Batgirl's own resolve, a shared commitment.
(End of Flashback)
Froakie's eyes, though tired, remained locked on the opposing side of the arena, its fighting spirit a beacon for Batgirl.
Valeria's Premier Ball flew next. CLICK! Beldum appeared in a flash of light, its metallic body gleaming. It floated with effortless grace, its single red eye scanning the arena. Beldum seemed completely fresh, showing no signs of fatigue from its previous matches. Valeria gave Beldum a silent, confident nod, a shared understanding passing between them. Beldum rotated slowly, ready.
Batgirl knelt down, her voice soft but firm.
"This is it, Froakie. Our last stand. Let's give it everything we've got."
Froakie chirped, a small ribbit of agreement, its gaze sharp and fixed on Beldum.
Valeria offered a small, focused smile to Beldum.
"Precision, Beldum. Execute with absolute accuracy."
Valeria then met Batgirl's gaze across the arena.
"May the best strategist win, Batgirl."
"Only if the best strategist has the fastest Pokémon," Batgirl shot back, a playful challenge in her tone.
A grin touched Valeria's lips.
"We shall see."
Orion's voice sliced through the excited clamor.
"Let the final match begin!"
The crowd's roar swelled, a wave of sound crashing against the arena walls. Froakie launched forward, a blur of blue and white, its form low to the ground. Beldum, with surprising speed, spun to meet it.
WHAM!
Froakie's Pound connected with Beldum's metallic body, ringing like a gong. Beldum barely recoiled, its single red eye glowing brighter. It responded with a swift Tackle, slamming into Froakie and sending it skidding across the polished floor.
Batgirl's voice, a whip-crack of encouragement, reached Froakie.
"Don't give an inch, Froakie! Quick Attack, now!"
Froakie responded with a burst of speed, darting around Beldum's deliberate rotation. It struck with another Pound, then another, each blow calculated to chip away at Beldum's composure.
Valeria's command was precise.
"Beldum, Iron Head!"
Beldum's metallic forehead pulsed with psychic energy. It charged forward, a heavy projectile moving with unexpected acceleration. Froakie leaped back, dodging the full force of the attack, but the displaced air from Beldum's passage ruffled its foamy scarf. Froakie landed awkwardly, its movements showing the strain of its earlier battles.
"Froakie, Water Gun!" Batgirl called out.
Froakie gathered its remaining energy, firing a focused jet of water. The stream hit Beldum's crimson eye, momentarily obscuring its vision. Beldum wobbled, its psychic levitation faltering slightly.
Valeria narrowed her eyes.
"Beldum, clear your vision! Counter with Tackle!"
Beldum rotated rapidly, shaking off the water. It then shot forward, aiming to exploit Froakie's momentary vulnerability. Froakie, still off-balance, struggled to regain its footing.
"Froakie, dodge left!" Batgirl shouted, her voice tight with concern.
Froakie managed a desperate leap, narrowly avoiding Beldum's head-on charge. The Pokémon landed heavily, its blue skin covered in a fine layer of dust. Its chest heaved, a clear sign of growing exhaustion.
"That was close, Froakie," Batgirl murmured, her concern evident. "Hang in there."
Valeria observed the exchange, a faint smile touching her lips. She understood Froakie's weakening state.
"Beldum, maintain pressure. Another Tackle!"
Beldum launched itself again, a relentless metal sphere. Batgirl knew Froakie could not withstand many more direct hits.
"Froakie, Double Team!"
Froakie shimmered, creating three identical illusions of itself. Beldum, momentarily disoriented, paused its charge. The real Froakie used the distraction, moving to Beldum's side.
"Now, Froakie, Pound!"
CLANG!
Froakie's Pound struck Beldum's side. The impact resonated through the arena. Beldum retaliated with a wide, sweeping Tackle, smashing through two of the illusions. The real Froakie barely evaded, its movements slower, less precise. The fatigue was setting in, but Batgirl's resolve did not waver. She would not let Froakie fight this alone.
Beldum's single eye pulsed with crimson light. It landed a devastating Iron Head, connecting squarely with Froakie's chest. A sharp CRACK echoed through the arena, and Froakie cried out, skidding across the polished floor. Batgirl's breath caught in her throat. Her heart sank, a heavy weight in her chest.
"Froakie!" Batgirl called out, her voice filled with alarm.
Just as despair threatened to take hold, Froakie's small body shimmered. A soft, blue-white light began to glow around it, radiating outward in gentle pulses. The light intensified, enveloping Froakie completely, obscuring it from view. A collective gasp rose from the crowd, a murmur of confusion and awe.
"What in the world is happening?" Harley Quinn shouted, her voice cutting through the arena's sudden silence.
Orion, Latias, and Pikachu exchanged knowing glances, their expressions calm and understanding. Pokémon, under intense emotional or physical pressure, sometimes evolve mid-battle. This process tapped into their latent potential, allowing them to transform into stronger forms. This was a moment of profound growth, a bond pushed to its limits.
The blinding light dimmed, then dissipated entirely. In place of the small, blue Froakie stood a new, sleeker Pokémon. Frogadier emerged, its form taller, more refined, with a vibrant blue body and striking cyan markings. Its yellow eyes, now larger and more alert, scanned the arena with a sharpened focus. A flowing collar of white bubbles framed its neck, buoyant and resilient, while its limbs had grown longer, more agile, clearly built for swift, powerful leaps. Frogadier let out a confident croak, a sound of renewed vigor. Its previous exhaustion had visibly lessened, replaced by a surge of fresh energy.
Batgirl stared in awe, her worry melting away into a wave of renewed hope and fierce determination. Frogadier, the evolved form of Froakie, gained enhanced agility and strength. Its bubble collar now served as both a defensive cushion and a tool for distraction. The transformation was a testament to their unbreakable bond.
