"Wow, you made this yourself?" Mom asked me in surprise, as she tried a bite of Wattalapam, the Sri Lankan dessert I'd tried making a while back.
"Mhm, yeah. Took a few tries to get it right, though. What do you think?" I responded with a smile.
"Oh, it's perfect...it takes me back to my childhood, before I moved to Australia. Wish I could have taken you to visit Sri Lanka before I died," She sighed wistfully.
"Yeah, that would've been nice," I nodded, as she tried another bite, nodding in approval.
"If you don't mind me asking...why did you keep your current last name? Why not switch back to your maiden name?" Aria asked her curiously.
"Oh, don't get me wrong, it isn't that I'm hung up on my ex. But, well, it's a cool name, and I figured, hey, after what I went through, I deserve to take something good out of that relationship," She replied wryly.
"By the way, what is your maiden name? I don't think I ever knew what it was," I realized.
