"Is everything okay, dear?"
Aika's worried voice caused Cedric to snap his gaze over to her.
"Oh…" He turned back toward the spot where the message had appeared. "I think something's wr—"
He suddenly paused and didn't finish the sentence.
On any normal day, he would have told his wife about the strange wording that had just vanished into thin air, about the creeping instinct that something was wrong, and about the fact that he seemed to be forgetting things.
But at this moment, he held himself back, because on the surface, he didn't want her to worry. Deeper down, however, he was no longer sure what to trust, and his instincts were warning him to keep this to himself.
Aika lowered her head, keeping her eyes fixed on his in a manner that said she was still waiting for an answer.
Cedric smiled. "It's nothing. It's just… the heat is getting to me today, heh."
As he spoke, he wiped his face with his sleeve before reaching up to retie the string holding his loose hair.
