The beautiful morning sun shone through the window, casting a warm golden glow across the room. From the open pane, the gentle sound of flowing water could be heard in the distance, carrying a light, refreshing chill into the air.
Cedric, who was curled up on the bed, slowly blinked his eyes open.
The first thing he did upon waking was reach out to the side of the bed where his wife usually lay, but a small frown touched his face when his hand met empty sheets.
"...?"
Slowly and groggily, he sat upright and rubbed his eyes, letting out a soft groan as sleep reluctantly left him.
