When he woke up, he was at the back of a van, there was no one else in there and he didn't feel like the vehicle was moving that much. He felt frightened, but he thought it couldn't be worse than being molested by his uncle, so he tried to remain calm. A few days passed, the masked men got back in the van and Ezekiel felt it moving again. He asked them where he was going but they answered in a different language that he didn't understand, so he closed his eyes and . He felt very uncomfortable because his feet and hands were tied together.
A few hours passed; Ezekiel was still asleep and was awoken by the two masked men dragging him out of the back of the van. Ezekiel frantically began shaking side to side to try stop them from taking him out of the van, but his attempts were in vain, as he was tired and couldn't resist anymore. One of the masked men untied the rope around his ankles, so he could walk, while the other masked man led the way.
Ezekiel looked around and was overwhelmed by the gargantuan mountains surrounding him, it made him feel so small and insignificant in comparison. At that moment Ezekiel began to question was there a point in living if his life was so meaningless and insignificant.
As Ezekiel began drifting into deep thought, a strong wind hit his face, which brought him back to reality. Without him knowing, he had been walking for hours, his feet suddenly began to ache and he was struggling to breathe. Yet, what was most shocking to him was that he was no longer surrounded by such massive mountains, but now he was looking down at some of them. Despite the uncomfortable situation he was in, that realisation gave him a sense of comfort; a warm feeling that he felt he'd forever lost.
Ezekiel looked straight forwards and saw a plethora of stone steps before him and at the top of those stone steps he saw two red brick pillars parallel to one another. The two masked men nudged Ezekiel forward to walk up the steps, but unlike before they didn't walk with him, but halted at the bottom of the steps. Ezekiel looked back to see what happened to them, but they were no longer there. Ezekiel looked back up the steps to make sure they weren't in front of him, then he looked around to make sure they were actually gone and there was no one there. He turned around and looked back at the bottom of the steps and saw no one. Once he verified that his eyes didn't deceive him, he didn't ask questions and charged down the steps in hopes of escaping. He sprinted as fast as he could down the steps and once he felt he was about to escape...
(THUD)
Ezekiel smacked into something and was knocked backwards. Confused, Ezekiel walked forwards again, but only to be stopped by that same something. Ezekiel tried to walk around it, but it was futile, it stretched far and wide preventing him from leaving. Ezekiel put his hand out and tried to feel what it was. It felt soft and solid at the same time. It felt like an invisible wall blocking his path. Ezekiel knew there was no escaping and that he had to face whatever was about to come head on.
Reluctantly, Ezekiel looked at the top of the steps and saw that as his target. There were too many steps for Ezekiel count, but he didn't focus on that and just focused on getting to the top, one step at a time.
A couple hundred steps up Ezekiel began thinking to himself, "who could possibly go through all this trouble to bring me here. It couldn't be my uncle, he doesn't have the money for this and if he did he'd spend it on gambling and booze. Maybe I'm just having a bad dream. No! This feels too real to be a dream or even a nightmare. My minds weak, my feet are aching, I'm tired and I'm continuing to put myself through all this hardship for what? Is there even a point to all this nonsense. I might as well give up. Everyone I've ever cared about is dead. So... So maybe I should join them, rather than roaming this hell alone. Struggling day after day to survive. No! I've struggled for too long!" Ezekiel thought to himself.
Ezekiel stopped walking and slowly leaned back, getting ready to end it all. Then a blue butterfly landed on his nose. Ezekiel could feel its delicate legs dance across Ezekiel's nose. It made Ezekiel smile, but moments later the butterfly flew away, so Ezekiel tried to chase after the butterfly, but he was ignorant of where he was going, and he fell backwards down the steps.
For a moment Ezekiel felt sad. Sad because he was about to die. Even though his life was nothing but hardship, small moments like that brought him joy and now he'd never be able to experience it again.
"I've never fallen to my death, but this is a very slow and painless fall." Ezekiel thought to himself.
But in fact, Ezekiel wasn't falling he was caught by the invisible wall and in truth he was still on the same step. For a strange reason Ezekiel felt a sense of relief that there was that invisible wall to save him.
Ezekiel stood up straight and with the boost of morale he began to climb the steps again. He was more than halfway there but didn't know how to feel about that because he didn't know whether it will be good or bad. Before he started walking up the steps he looked backwards and there was no butterfly, but he could still feel it in his heart.
