"Is it really you?"
When the smoke cleared, Adam and Ladin saw each other at the same time. That fateful reunion only made them more alert.
"You're still alive?" Adam spoke first.
"No! I'm already dead. I died the day when I took you to my house!" Ladin shouted with a twisted expression.
"I don't understand—"
"You don't need to!"
Adam and Ladin instantly entered a battle stance. Both could sense a familiar demon power coming from the other — a power that was meant for only one person.
Only one of them could survive.
Neither felt joy at reuniting, only the urge to destroy the other.
"Bugs."
A dark halo suddenly appeared, breaking their deadlock. Zenon Zogratis had arrived — he hadn't returned to the Spade Kingdom.
"Super Dragon Blast!"
"Super Thunder Wave!"
The instant Zenon showed himself, countless energy beams shot at him. Explosions echoed through the cavern, and the ground trembled violently.
"Earth Demon Power: Collapse!"
Ladin's body glowed brown as he slammed his hand to the ground. Cracks spread like spiderwebs, tearing the cavern apart.
"The Power of the Water Demon — let the raging tides surge!"
Sensing danger, Adam released the water demon's power, and the collapsing cavern filled with roaring waves.
Run!
Adam dashed down the left passage while Ladin sprinted to the right. Both wanted to reach their targets first.
Zenon stood in the collapsing cavern, bone magic wrapping his body. Thunder and fire tore through his defense, and he barely escaped with space magic before being reduced to ash.
"Damn it! I'm going to kill you!"
Two black horns burst from Zenon's head, the dark cross on his face spread wider, and his entire body pulsed with demonic energy.
Seventy percent!
Zenon glared sharply to the right. He'd deal with the deserter first — then the other one.
A dark portal opened, and he stepped through it.
On the other side, Adam entered a dense underground forest. Using Dragon Blast, he burned open a path through the overgrowth.
A massive stone door covered in vines stood before him, marked with the image of a tiger.
"The Tiger!"
Delighted, Adam watched as his grimoire flipped open to the third page. The tiger mark glowed gold, and with a deep rumble, the stone door slowly opened.
Through the gap, Adam saw a massive blue-eyed white tiger glaring at him with its jaws wide open.
"No point waiting! Dragon Blast! Sea Dragon's Roar! Electric Eyes — Intimidation!"
A fiery blast from his left hand, a massive sea dragon from his right, and lightning flashing in his eyes — all three forces surged forward at once.
The tiger froze. Before it could react, the three elemental attacks struck, and its body dissolved into glowing starlight that was absorbed into Adam's grimoire.
"It's done."
Adam touched the tiger symbol in his grimoire. This power was dangerous — it wasn't something to use lightly. Who knew what the incarnations of good and evil could do when unleashed?
Still… if he ever got too bored, he might test it out.
"For now, let's go find Ladin."
Adam's grimoire glowed again. He could feel that Ladin's magic carried traces of demonic energy — a threat that couldn't be left alive.
There was no point waiting for him to collect all eight demonic powers before a final confrontation. This corruption needed to be stopped early.
"I'll be his strictest — and kindest — father!"
At another stone gate, Ladin unleashed the demon power, shattering the gate into pieces. A dark spirit burst out, screaming.
"Go!"
Ladin threw a transparent glass orb that absorbed the evil spirit completely. But before he could grab it, the orb vanished into a dark space — and reappeared in Zenon's hand.
"What's this?" Zenon asked, examining it. The energy felt identical to the demon inside him — cold and suffocating.
"Give it back!"
Ladin's veins bulged. This smug bastard was seriously testing his patience.
G8-level annoying!
"Haha, no."
Zenon's poker face twisted into mockery. He lifted the orb teasingly, then tossed it into a dark portal. "I threw your little toy away. You'll never find it again."
Ladin's mind roared in fury. The demonic energies were everything to him.
Since absorbing fragments of a demon's memory, he'd learned the truth — gather all eight, and he could open the Gate of Hell, dragging his parents' souls back into the world of the living.
That was his only purpose.
"I! Want! You! To! Die!"
Two horns burst from Ladin's head, black wings spread from his back, and his body radiated overwhelming magic.
"Beelzebub! Lend me your strength!"
Sensing danger, Zenon immediately pushed his power to its limit — eighty percent demonic output, the edge before the Gate of Hades would open.
"Thunder Slash!"
Crackling lightning blade straight toward Zenon.
"Space Transfer!"
Zenon tried to teleport it away, but the lightning blade's energy warped the very fabric of space. With a deafening boom, the explosion ripped through him, obliterating his lower body.
"Hahaha! Useless. You can't kill me with demonic power."
The dark matter around Zenon swirled and reformed, regenerating his body.
"Yeah?"
Ladin's expression darkened. He began sacrificing his Steel Magic in exchange for greater demonic strength.
"Thunder and lightning — grant me the power to destroy heaven and earth!"
His body blazed with lightning as the steel dissolved. Zenon stabbed out with bone magic, but every bone was incinerated before reaching him.
Zenon tried summoning another space portal — but the storm's sheer power locked down the area completely.
"Beelzebub! Give me your power!"
[Boy, the Gate of Hades isn't open yet. This is your limit.]
"I'll give you my arm!"
[Not enough.]
"Don't push it!"
[Fine, then!]
Thunder erupted from the sky.
Bolts of lightning above and below merged into a massive Magic Zone.
With a single cataclysmic BOOM, all of Windwhisper Town was obliterated — leaving behind a massive crater, dozens of meters deep.
