Her entire family had been wiped out. Even if he hadn't personally wanted that outcome, could he really wash his hands of responsibility?
Aokiji stopped pedaling, glanced back toward the Going Merry, and sighed.
Robin… she must hate him, right? After all, he was one of the participants at Ohara.
Suddenly, he frowned. He had opposed the Buster Call back then. Killing the scholars was already extreme, but the fact that they even slaughtered innocent civilians…
Could it really be like Sandy said?
Did the Celestial Dragons fabricate an excuse to hide their monstrous sins and trick the Marines into carrying out the massacre?
But so many years had passed. What use were these thoughts now?
What Aokiji couldn't forget were the terrified cries of the children… and the desperate screams of the women. Even now, those voices still echoed every night.
Those people didn't understand anything—yet Akainu had raised his hand without hesitation.
Was this what justice was supposed to look like?
Where was compassion?
Where was mercy?
If those things were gone, then what justice was he even fighting for?
Was the Marines still the Marines he once believed in?
Why did he join the Marines in the first place?
For the first time in years, Aokiji begins to suspect the Celestial Dragons.
Would they truly give such an order if they weren't hiding something?
"Ara ara…" Aokiji slapped his forehead, irritated. "That troublesome brat…"
Meanwhile, aboard the Going Merry—
Chopper treated Luffy and the others. Thanks to Sandy's intervention, none of them suffered the severe frostbite they would have in the original timeline.
Sandy lay stretched out on the outer deck, staring up at the sky, lost in thought.
In this world, most ordinary people genuinely believed the Celestial Dragons were "descendants of the gods" and that everything they did was justified.
After spending so long with the crew, Sandy couldn't help glancing toward Luffy's room.
Maybe Garp understood how poisonous that belief was. Maybe that's why he sent young Luffy to Windmill Village, to be raised among simple, honest people who wouldn't poison his worldview.
And because of that upbringing, Luffy saw the world differently than most.
Except… an unexpected accident occurred midway.
A certain red-haired bastard showed up in Windmill Village and—well—turned Luffy into Luffy.
Then Sandy froze.
Red-Haired Shanks was once a member of the Pirate King Gold Roger's crew.
Immediately, an absurd scene played out in Sandy's imagination—
Over 20 Years Ago — Somewhere in the New World
Roger spun around in panic. "Rayleigh! Is that bastard Garp still chasing us?!"
Rayleigh peeked back, face pale. "Uh… he should have stopped by now?"
Buggy clung to young Shanks' arm, bawling. "Captain! I thought I was gonna die!"
Shanks wiped cold sweat. "That monster Garp has been chasing us for five days and five nights! Even if he can handle it, his subordinates can't, right?!"
Buggy nodded frantically. "Right! He's terrifying! He throws cannonballs with his bare hands!"
Roger sighed in relief. "I can't believe even my Divine Departure didn't stop him…"
Rayleigh groaned. "That guy's Armament Haki is too insane!"
Roger muttered, sweating. "That's not the worst part. His Conqueror's Haki coating is even worse."
Buggy punched his fist into his palm. "Captain, we need revenge!"
Rayleigh stared at him. "Revenge? Against Garp? How?!"
Buggy's eyes suddenly sparkled. "How about… we recruit his kid and turn him into a Pirate?!"
Everyone froze.
Then—
"OH!!"
Roger's eyes gleamed. "Good idea! It'll be hilarious if Garp has to chase his own son!"
Rayleigh burst out laughing. "He'd drop dead from rage!"
An intelligence officer waved a hand. "Forget it. His son is already an adult and about to become a Marine Vice Admiral. We can't trick him."
Rayleigh smirked. "Then we'll trick his grandchild instead!"
Shanks blinked. "Garp… has a grandson?"
Roger slammed his hand onto Shanks' shoulder. "Even if he doesn't yet, he will eventually!"
He removed his straw hat and placed it gently onto Shanks' head.
"Shanks, this is my treasure. I'm entrusting it to you. One day… give it to Garp's grandson and lead him into piracy. Get revenge for all of us!"
Shanks' eyes glowed. "Captain… your hat…"
"You're the apprentice I trust the most," Roger said, grinning. "I leave this mission to you!"
The entire crew nodded solemnly.
Back on the Merry—
Sandy gasped dramatically.
The ticking seconds… the flowing sea…
There is only one truth!
Luffy becoming Pirate King…
was a conspiracy by the Roger Pirates—a plan to get revenge on Garp!
Shanks guided Luffy.
Rayleigh trained Luffy.
It all made perfect sense!
"Nonsense again!! I'm too smart!!"
Sandy flipped backward several times in excitement. Then, spotting a goldfish in a bowl, he scooped it up, kissed it, and tossed it back into the sea.
Everyone walking out of the room froze.
"HEY!" Usopp roared. "SANDY!! YOU THREW MY GOLDFISH AGAIN!!"
Luffy blinked. "What's wrong with Sandy?"
Sanji looked at Chopper. "Doctor. Medicine. Now."
Sandy stood on the railing, holding a mirror.
"Handsome… truly handsome. Why are you this handsome?"
Usopp and Sanji exchanged a look, sighed deeply, and kicked Sandy off the ship.
Plop.
As Sandy splashed into the sea, they turned back, shrugging.
"At last," Sanji said.
"The world is back to normal," Usopp added.
"Hahahaha!" Luffy laughed until he held his stomach. "What are you guys doing?"
(This wasn't in the original story—just a sudden joke that came to mind. If it doesn't work, I won't repeat it.)
