Chapter 184: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

In the dead silence of the darkness, time seemed to stand still. Only the faint sound of heavy breathing echoed eerily through the thick gloom.

Suddenly, a blinding flash of light pierced through without warning, instantly illuminating the dim space. At the same time, twenty-one humans appeared.

Startled by the intense light, the group awoke as if from a dream, their eyes flying open.

However, the scene that greeted them instantly froze them in place, their blood seeming to congeal in that moment.

Before them lay nothing but ruins and rubble, as if the area had been ravaged by an apocalyptic catastrophe.

Tall buildings and grand structures were riddled with holes, their facades peeling off in large chunks to reveal twisted, deformed steel bars that swayed precariously in the wind. The streets were covered in shattered stone slabs and tiles, amidst which lay dilapidated and rust-mottled car wrecks. Their windows were shattered, the ground littered with shards of glass that glinted coldly under the faint light.

Faintly, one could still see the walking corpses hiding in the corners. These creatures, having gone too long without food, had lost their ability to move.

"Where... where is this place?"

Among the crowd, a slender young man wearing black-rimmed glasses spoke first, his voice trembling. He widened his eyes, his gaze filled with shock and bewilderment as he anxiously surveyed his surroundings.

"I... I haven't transmigrated, have I?" A self-proclaimed otaku in a tracksuit covered his mouth with both hands, his voice full of disbelief, his body trembling slightly from fear.

"Damn it, who the hell kidnapped me? Got a death wish?!" a rough roar suddenly erupted. Looking toward the sound, one could see a bald, burly man, his face flushed crimson with anger, veins bulging on his forehead, furiously waving his fists.

Just then, a young woman in the crowd inadvertently glanced at the highly conspicuous Umbrella Corporation logo on a nearby building. With a wail, she immediately broke down in tears. "It's over! This is the world of 'Resident Evil'! We're all going to die here!"

Her cries struck everyone's already taut nerves like a heavy hammer. Fear instantly surged like a tidal wave, completely engulfing them.

"What the hell are you crying about?! What's this Resident Evil crap?! What are you talking about?!" The bald man was furious, clearly not yet realizing the gravity of the situation.

Amidst the chaos, the members of Team China unconsciously gathered together. They stood tall, their gazes firm and resolute, their dignified demeanor standing out remarkably amidst the panicked crowd.

The bald man spotted Team China and, without a second thought, angrily strode over. His finger almost poked Zhan Lan in the nose as he fiercely roared, "Damn it, was this your doing? Did you kidnap me?!"

Before he could finish his sentence, a cold glint flashed. Zhang Jie had already drawn his Desert Eagle, decisively pointing it at the bald man's forehead.

The bald man froze, the color draining from his face. Yet, he still bluffed, his voice involuntarily weakening, "Hmph, I don't believe this is a real gun!"

A flicker of coldness passed through Zhang Jie's eyes. He had no intention of wasting words on him. His finger squeezed the trigger. *Bang! Bang! Bang!* A series of gunshots echoed, making everyone's eardrums ache.

The bald man's legs buckled, and with a "thud," he slumped to the ground. His eyes were wide, filled with terror and despair. He was completely dumbfounded, muttering incessantly, "It's... it's real, it's real..."

Zhang Jie furrowed his brows, his gaze quickly sweeping over the chaotic scene. "Stop making things worse for yourselves!" he shouted. "Someone will explain everything to you shortly!"

Zhan Lan stepped out from the team. "This is indeed the world of Resident Evil, but don't worry. With us here, your chances of survival are very high."

"The so-called Reincarnation Space refers to..."

"We have each survived two or more horror films. Survival is difficult, but as long as you persevere..."

Seeing 100 reward points credited to her account, Zhan Lan returned to Team China.

Hearing Zhan Lan's words, the previously panicked hearts of the others gradually settled, as if they had grasped a life-saving straw.

However, as they looked at the ruined, desolate, and crisis-ridden environment around them, a chill inevitably rose in their hearts. No one could say for sure where their future lay.

Within Team China, Ren Arakawa analyzed, "In the movie version of Resident Evil, the biggest threat is the nuclear bomb. If there isn't a team battle, I can't imagine how the Main God would mess with us. It wouldn't be so heartless as to nuke the entire place, right? That's impossible, isn't it? Aren't we near Raccoon City? This is humanity's last surviving base. Would they nuke themselves?"

Zheng Zha said thoughtfully, "Captain, why are you so worried? Isn't a simple horror movie a good thing? With your strength, even if you stood there and let the zombies bite you, they couldn't break your skin, right?"

"That's exactly the problem," Ren Arakawa said, his face full of worry. "Our last movie could be described as a bountiful harvest. The death toll was low, and you unlocked your genetic lock. The team's overall rating has been on the rise."

"Take the last team battle for example. For you all, the original plot of this Resident Evil movie is like a college student going back to kindergarten. In kindergarten, the most formidable opponent is the female teacher; the other kids can be taken down with a single kick."

"Of course, there are also strong people like security guards in kindergarten, but that's where the problem lies." Main God Ren Arakawa pointed to himself. "Have you seen *SPL*? Me fighting a security guard is like Wu Jing with a knife fighting an elementary schooler."

Zhan Lan gasped. "So you're saying, not only did the Main God not put us in a more dangerous movie, it put us into a simple world? Why would it do that..."

Ren Arakawa sighed. "I'm afraid it's a team battle. This is truly terrible luck. I'm almost getting used to it."

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone's Reincarnation wristwatches vibrated.

They raised their hands to see the mission update.

[America has fallen into a zombie hell. Raccoon City has become one of humanity's last strongholds of hope. Once Raccoon City falls, human history will cease to exist.]

[Defend the Stronghold: For the next thirty days, repel wave after wave of frenzied zombie attacks. Protect Raccoon City at all costs. The zombie offensive will grow fiercer over time. Besides common, slow-moving zombies, various powerful mutated entities will also appear, such as the agile and deadly Lickers.]

[Cooperative Defense: You must cooperate closely with other survivors within Raccoon City. Current survivors: Alice, Ada Wong, Leon S. Kennedy, Jill, Wesker. For each death, 1,000 reward points will be deducted. For each survivor, 1,000 points will be added.]

[Information Gathering: While defending, collect as much information as possible about the zombie virus and relevant intelligence about the Umbrella Corporation. This may help you better counter the zombie attacks.]

[Successfully completing the mission will grant each team member 3,000 reward points and one C-rank side story. For each Licker eliminated, an additional 100 reward points will be awarded.]

[Fall of Raccoon City: If Raccoon City is breached by zombies within thirty days, all team members will immediately lose 5,000 reward points and two C-rank side stories. If points and side stories are insufficient, your lives will be forfeit.]
