Pov: Vik
It is 10 o'clock at night, but what captures my attention most is the full moon in the sky. I admire its beauty as the night hunt begins. Tonight will be violent. I am not soft-hearted. Even if I were, being reincarnated as a snake has made me a predator. I faced challenges in killing my first prey, but I have since taken down many beasts and some humans. Today, I am ready for a massacre. I prepare myself mentally, as I still hold onto the values of a law-abiding citizen from the 21st century.
I close my eyes for a moment, and when I open them again, my pupils have turned to vertical golden slits instead of their normal round shape. I embrace my snake nature. It's time to start this mission. I instruct my disciples to take their positions. Lu Xiaoran and Roman, dressed in tactical military suits using minimal technology that relies on spiritual energy, move slowly through the forest. They feel the suppression of the heaven suppressing zone even before crossing its boundaries. This tells me the zone is expanding.
This also confirms that acting tonight was the right choice. If I had come here tomorrow, who knows what might have happened? I can already sense fluctuations in energy within this zone. It feels odd, as this energy is not spiritual. It must belong to that mysterious treasure.
We advance to a path lined with stone slabs on either side, marked with "heaven suppressing zone." Lu Xiaoran and Roman head out first while I climb a tree to take my position.
Now, the real action begins. I hide behind the branches and tell the system to start the internal communication.
System: "Okay, host, I'm activating radio communication on the system watches and specialized intercoms."
I had requested this setup, as communication is restricted in this area. However, radio waves remain unaffected. Whoever built this place designed it to mimic the old world environment.
As the intercoms and system watches hum to life, I activate mine and say, "This is snake one. Can everyone hear me? Over."
Lu Xiaoran: "Master, we hear you."
Vik: "That's not correct. Remember, we must follow a radio protocol. Repeat with your code names."
Lu Xiaoran: "Affirmative. This is Tiger. I'm moving towards the target. Over."
Roman: "This is Thunder. I'm moving towards the target with Tiger. Snake one, do you have visual on the target?"
Hearing them use the radio protocol lifts my spirits a bit. We sound like professionals now. I reply, "Negative, no visual on the target. Requesting scout. Robot, do you copy? Deploy scout one. Tiger and Thunder, activate your night vision for better visibility."
Lina: "Copy that, Snake one. Deploying scout one, over."
Lina, stationed back at the mansion, presses a few buttons. A small helicopter drone she built flies straight towards Lu Xiaoran and Roman's position. As I see the drone move ahead, I also advance, placing myself on a higher branch. Despite the full moon, visibility in the forest is poor. Luckily, Lina's night vision gear helps a lot.
Soon, I hear Lina on the radio. "This is Robot. Scout one has visual on the target. The coordinates have been sent to your system watch."
Moments later, I receive a notification on my system watch, opening an interface. It shows a map of the forest with several targets marked; Lin Chen's guards appear as red dots. There are about twelve men just 300 meters ahead of Lu Xiaoran and Roman. Additionally, there are two green dots in front of them; they must be the villagers.
Gathering this information, I quickly say, "Thunder and Tiger, move north and fast. There are two civilians, 300 meters ahead, surrounded by Ravens. Take positions and start the rescue on my order. Over."
Vik: "Your first priority is to make contact with the hostages. I will handle the Ravens. Do you copy?"
Lu Xiaoran: "Copy that."
Roman: "Copy that."
Just a few hundred meters ahead of my position, twelve men carrying swords and axes surround two unarmed people. One is a teenage girl; the other is an old man. To my surprise, they are Jessica and her grandfather, Zhou.
The men surrounding them laugh and say, "Look everyone, this old man and his granddaughter tried to escape. What should be their punishment?"
One of them replies, "Young master, anyone who tries to run must be eliminated."
Hearing this, the first man says, "No, that would be a tragic end. I don't feel pity for the old man, but that girl just reached her teenage years. With her beauty, it would be a waste for her to die. Why don't you come with us, girl? We'll have some fun!"
Snap!
Before he can finish, a swoosh sound echoes, followed by something crashing into his head, splattering blood everywhere. He didn't even have time to scream. More swoosh sounds follow, and within a minute, ten of the men lie dead. Some tried to run, while others hid behind trees, but bullets found them. The remaining two, seeing their companions dead, try to flee toward Jessica and Zhou. Unbeknownst to them, Lu Xiaoran and Roman have already taken firing positions. They shoot the two men, killing them in seconds.
Witnessing all this blood, Jessica and her grandfather are terrified. They look at the two figures in tactical suits and helmets as they approach. Just then, Lu Xiaoran removes his helmet. Upon seeing him, Jessica runs and hugs him tightly, and he returns the embrace.
Watching this, I question my existence as a single man. Why do these teenagers seize every moment for romance? This is supposed to be action, not a love scene. Before I can voice my complaint to my disciple, I witness another unexpected moment: Lu Xiaoran and Jessica kiss.
Vik: "What the heck are they doing?"
System: "Host, this is a trend. People often realize their love for each other in dire situations. But you wouldn't understand, having been single for 25 years in your previous life and 100 years in this one. You can now be called the Snake of Singularity."
System: "Now I think of it, this is a very good title with a cool tone in it, let's make it official."
