Chapter 144 - CHAPTER 140: What Would You Do If You Were in My Place?

The Kingdom of Englassia was the most advanced human nation west of the Forest of Jura.

Thanks to its privileged location and the exceptional security of its trade routes, the kingdom eventually became the true transportation, economic, and political center of the western nations. Caravans from countless countries crossed its roads every day, and merchants from many cultures considered Englassia an indispensable hub for their businesses.

In addition, many of the continent's most important institutions were located there.

Among them were the Western Council, responsible for numerous political decisions among the human nations; the central headquarters of the Free Guild, which coordinated adventurers from countless regions; and the operational center of the Holy Western Church, whose religious influence extended across nearly the entire western continent.

The royal capital was immense.

Even so, it remained completely surrounded by a gigantic wall of white stone, built both for defense and for strict control of access.

There were only two official gates.

And there was absolutely no other way to enter the city.

Adventurers usually passed through one of the gates designated for the general public, but even then the process was far from simple.

Normally, anyone wishing to enter had to pass through three separate identity checks.

In the first stage, guards carefully examined identification documents.

If the visitor passed this initial verification, they were then subjected to a complete body search. No hidden weapons, suspicious artifacts, or illegal items could pass unnoticed at that stage.

After that, it was still necessary to enter a third line.

Each checkpoint was heavily guarded by armed soldiers and trained knights. As a result, the lines often became enormous—far larger than those found in cities such as Dwargon.

Even if a problem was detected during the second inspection, the visitor could still proceed to the third stage.

However, from that moment onward, they would be treated as a suspect or potential criminal.

This system existed precisely to discourage any attempt at forced or clandestine entry.

All of this made one thing clear:

The city was so desired by foreigners that extreme measures were necessary to control the flow of visitors.

Once inside the city, however, anyone could understand the reason for that obsession.

Numerous tall structures filled the urban landscape.

Most buildings had at least five floors, something extremely rare in many other cities of the world.

The streets were lined with buildings made primarily of brick and wood, creating a harmonious contrast between functionality and aesthetics.

But what was truly impressive was not only the architecture.

It was the urban planning.

The city had been designed with nearly perfect organization.

And at the very center of everything stood a magnificent white castle.

A large lake occupied the heart of the capital, and right in the middle of that lake the royal castle had been built.

Four great bridges extended from the castle and connected directly to the city's main avenues, forming a perfectly symmetrical circulation system.

However, what surprised people even more than the city's appearance was its advanced culture.

Large buildings resembling arenas were used for concerts and musical performances.

Bustling squares were always filled with street performers, musicians, and traveling theater troupes.

Posters and advertisements for shows could be seen everywhere.

It was, without a doubt, a true cultural metropolis.

The city was also organized into four major districts:

the commercial district,

the tourist district,

the industrial district,

and the residential district.

Separated by the castle located at the center, these districts formed a perfectly circular city.

In the tourist area, there was an entire region dedicated to inns and lodging houses.

This area was located near the city walls and was filled with attractions along the streets.

Food stalls, souvenir shops, and countless street vendors filled the place with life.

Closer to the center stood a massive building used for diplomats and international conferences.

An important school also operated there.

Among the four sections of the tourist district, this was the most heavily guarded area.

Not far from there stood the headquarters of the Freedom Association, affiliated with the Free Guild.

Beside it rose another important building belonging to the Holy Western Church.

At the top of that building, a massive symbol of the Holy Cross stood proudly against the sky.

From a defensive standpoint, the city was nearly flawless.

At every major intersection, knights patrolled and monitored public order.

Anyone who even considered committing a crime in such a place would have to be extremely desperate.

Even against their will…

The long journey had finally come to an end.

As soon as they finally passed through the city gates, Shizu immediately grabbed Arthur's right hand with excitement.

"Let's go see my students first!"

Arthur remained silent for a moment.

After a few seconds, he answered calmly.

"You can go ahead. I need to meet someone else right now."

After a brief explanation, Arthur and Shizu eventually separated, each heading toward their own destination within the immense capital.

---

It didn't take long for Arthur to finally arrive in front of the Free Guild headquarters.

The imposing building dominated part of the main avenue, with adventurers constantly entering and leaving. However, the moment Arthur stepped through the door, one of the attendants immediately stood up, as if she had been expecting him.

"The Grandmaster is waiting for you in his office. Please follow me."

Arthur didn't respond. He simply walked behind her with calm steps.

A few moments later, the office door opened.

As soon as Arthur entered, the first thing he saw was Yuuki sitting calmly on a sofa, holding a cup of tea as if he were welcoming an ordinary guest.

The young Grandmaster raised his eyes.

"Would you like to sit down and have a cup?"

Arthur looked at the cup for a moment, then walked to the opposite sofa and sat down naturally.

"Let's not drag this out any longer than necessary, Yuuki."

He slowly crossed his legs, resting his arm on the back of the sofa.

His gaze carried a hint of disdain, but also curiosity.

"I'm sure you know exactly why I came here."

Yuuki observed Arthur for a few seconds before answering.

"Yes… I do."

Yuuki was a natural genius.

On Earth, he had lived a happy life. He had loving parents, many friends, and a promising future.

But everything changed the day an overworked truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into his parents' car.

Both of them died in the accident.

Yuuki fell into despair.

When the court declared the driver innocent, citing circumstances and systemic failures, Yuuki saw for the first time the irrationality and deep flaws of society.

At first, he wanted revenge.

He wanted to destroy everything.

He wanted to crush that hypocritical system that allowed tragedies like that to simply be forgotten.

But he could not bring himself to harm so many innocent people in the process.

So he changed his approach.

Instead of destroying society, he decided to rebuild it.

Step by step.

He planned to become a politician, gain influence, and gather allies who shared his vision. With enough time, he believed he could create a truly just society.

However, before he could even complete those plans…

He was summoned to the Central World.

The one who summoned him was Kazalim, a former Demon Lord who was on the verge of death after being defeated by Leon Cromwell.

Yuuki's spiritual body was perfectly compatible with Kazalim's astral body.

With the last of his remaining strength, Kazalim attempted to cast a curse that would instantly destroy Yuuki's spirit, allowing him to reincarnate into his body.

But Yuuki had already understood how that world functioned during his journey between dimensions.

At that moment, he awakened his Unique Skill.

Creator.

Using this ability, he created a special constitution: Anti-Skill, which completely nullified the curse.

Even so, Yuuki did not destroy him.

Feeling pity for Kazalim, he allowed him to temporarily inhabit his body and promised to find a new vessel so he could reincarnate.

Thus he saved his life.

And also gave him hope again.

After allowing Kazalim to inhabit his body, Yuuki spent twenty years in the eastern lands.

During that period, he met Clayman, a Demon Lord, and began consolidating his influence behind the scenes.

After two decades in the east, Yuuki moved west to carry out his plans.

It was then that he came under Shizu's tutelage, alongside another Japanese Otherworlder, Hinata.

Taking advantage of the fact that his body had not physically aged, Yuuki managed to deceive them, making both believe that he had only recently arrived in that world.

Alongside his teacher, Yuuki used his knowledge of a modern society to completely reform the adventurers' system.

Thus the Free Guild was born.

Under his leadership, the number of deaths caused by monsters dropped drastically.

He created a modern monster classification system based on the quantity of Magicules and several other factors.

These changes revitalized commerce.

Cities that had once been in decline began to prosper again.

And the lives of countless people improved.

Yuuki's goal had always been simple.

To create a just and balanced society for everyone.

Silence hung in the office for several seconds.

Then Yuuki asked calmly:

"Tell me… what would you do if you were in my place?"

Arthur rested his chin on his hand for a moment, watching Yuuki in silence.

Then he replied casually:

"You want to destroy the current society and build a new, fairer one. That's it, right?"

Yuuki nodded.

Arthur let out a small sigh and crossed his legs again.

"The last time someone tried something like that… the entire world was drowned in a great flood. And even then… humanity still found a way to corrupt itself again."

Yuuki: "…"

Arthur then raised his eyes toward him.

"I don't deny the value of your dream."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"However… do you really believe that your childish utopia will survive the weight of human nature? Or do you truly think you can eliminate inequality from an entire society?"
