Chapter 115 The Invisible Enemy
Inside a research institute made of heavy alloy high in the snow-capped mountains, several apothecaries quietly awaited the captain's test results. Because the eerie blood sealed inside was too chilling, they kept a close eye on their surroundings.
An apothecary noticed that several streaks of blood were missing from three sealed containers, and his alarmed cry drew everyone's attention.
"What happened?" The captain, who was intently inspecting the situation and wearing a white coat, sighed and turned to ask.
The apothecary pointed to three sealed containers that contained no blood, his face pale with fright. "The blood is gone! They were just sealed in liquid a moment ago! What kind of monster is this blood?"
"What?"
The team leader of the apothecaries disregarded the testing and rushed to the sealed containers with the others. Upon closer inspection, they discovered three streaks of blood clinging to the inner walls of the containers, while three others floated in the liquid.
Seeing this, the others were relieved, thinking that the blood had suddenly disappeared and reappeared.
After careful observation, the team leader of the apothecaries patted one of the jars and saw a trickle of blood fall off and float back into the white liquid. The others followed suit and patted the other jars as well, and the six sealed liquid jars were restored to their original state.
The captain, taken aback by this, looked at the group seriously and said, "Don't scare yourselves. A biohazard couldn't possibly escape from a high-alloy sealed container! Understanding the hemorrhagic virus with the Alpha Legion's technology is not a problem. We have an entire data database behind us, and they are waiting for our detection data to be analyzed!"
After saying this, the team leader of the apothecaries returned to his seat and began microscopic testing. The other apothecaries glanced at the bloodstains on the sealed containers and were no longer alarmed, so they relaxed.
In their understanding, viruses were living organisms and could not escape sealed alloy containers. They had never heard of viruses infecting metal.
Just as the group was focusing their attention on the matter again, the six strands of blood from the six sealed jars began to flutter and dance once more. Then, without the apothecaries noticing, the six strands of blood once again adhered to the inner walls of the sealed jars.
After a while, another apothecary looked up and was shocked to see six empty sealed jars. He could hardly believe it.
Suddenly, a streak of red blood appeared abruptly on the outer wall of the high-alloy liquid-sealed container, slowly moving outward, with fine cracks and textures appearing around the blood streak's hole.
The apothecary rubbed his eyes, and upon closer inspection, he suddenly noticed a red streak of blood peeking out from the wall of another sealed liquid container. Then, one by one, all six strange blood vessels emerged from the high-alloy liquid sealed containers, rapidly emerging from their shells.
Just as the apothecary was about to call out to his colleagues, the other five apothecaries were already staring in disbelief.
Soon after, the lights in the research institute room flickered, and a deep pool of bright red blood covered the metal floor where the six dead apothecaries lay.
Meanwhile, on the outer wall of the research institute atop the snow-capped mountain, numerous wrinkles appeared, including an opening through which howling, icy winds blew in, and wisps of white snowflakes drifted into the heavy alloy research institute.
The corridor was filled with Imperial Army soldiers lying in pools of bright red blood, their armor intact and their bodies unharmed. Strands of bright red blood rose from pools of blood throughout the research institute, like swimming blood lines wandering throughout the facility, and cracks could be seen appearing on the alloy walls from time to time, constantly widening.
In the wind and snow, the entire research institute was deserted, with no one left alive.
...
A dozen minutes later, Omega on the space flagship was shocked to hear the news. The entire fleet had been monitoring the research institute on the snow-capped mountain peak, but they had not seen any enemies or demons approaching.
Inside the bridge, everyone looked serious. Omega looked at Bright again and asked, "There were no enemies, yet everyone in the entire research institute was killed?"
Bright confirmed, "There's a hole in the thick alloy outer wall of the research institute, but we've been monitoring it and haven't seen any enemy attack. Could the enemy be transparent or able to become invisible?"
"My lord, I suspect there's something wrong with that blood!" Skol thought of the terrible state of those suffering from the hemorrhagic disease on the continent of Reinharden.
Omega asked Bright to show him images of the entire research institute, both before and after its completion.
The two images, once shown, left the company commanders present astonished. The entire process had been monitored, yet the enemy had killed people right under their noses.
The tiny opening clearly wasn't for a large creature. Only something the size of a mouse could squeeze through. They racked their brains for a long time but couldn't figure out what kind of being could do this.
Several company commanders who had fought demons and knew about the problems in the warp exchanged glances and categorized this enemy as a terrifying warp demon. Common sense dictated that it was impossible for such a thing to happen.
Omega immediately thought of demons from the warp. Psychic powers and demons were inherently diverse, so he wouldn't be surprised if something strange happened with time manipulation abilities involved. Faced with a small, invisible enemy capable of silently approaching the legion, Omega would not be afraid simply because the enemy was a demon.
Based on current information, Omega made inferences.
Looking at the irregularly shaped hole in the high-density alloy, the enemy was a small entity capable of drilling through it. There were no apparent tears or claw marks around it, and the snow outside was also unmarked, meaning the other party had no hands or feet.
He immediately thought of one creature: a snake. But the snake hadn't left any tracks in the snow around the mountain, so the only possibility was that it could fly.
A flying, transparent snake that could crawl through metal.
After some reasoning, Omega felt that the current information could only be used to speculate to the extent available at the moment. More information would be needed to move forward, in particular, information from the research institute and on how this transparent existence was connected to the hemorrhagic disease across the continent.
Omega pointed calmly at the research institute display. "Send in ten intelligent mechs and film the entire interior of the research institute. I need more intelligence!"
"Yes, My Lord!" replied Cofer, a logician from the Mechanicum, and he immediately relayed the order.
Several Thunderhawk gunships carrying ten intelligent control mechs flew directly to the snow-capped mountains of the Reinharden continent. Under everyone's watchful eyes, ten intelligent control robots were deployed outside the research institute where the incident had occurred. They safely opened the door and went inside.
The intelligent mechs took pictures and transmitted the information back along the way. After the data was organized in the database, it was sent to everyone on the bridge.
Upon seeing the pools of blood and the horrific state of the Imperial Army soldiers in the research institute's corridor, they were all shocked. The intelligent mechs carefully examined the Imperial Army corpses in the pools of blood and found that the bodies had not suffered any injuries, but were covered in blood.
The scene was just like that of countless victims on the continent of Reinharden, and Bright felt a chill run down his spine when he saw the images.
An unseen enemy was the most terrifying kind.
Skol said upon seeing this, "Could it be that an invisible daemon spread the virus, causing these soldiers to bleed to death?"
"Don't rush to judgment. Let's review all the information first!" Omega said calmly, his gaze fixed on the wrinkled high-alloy walls of the research institute, a strange expression on his face.
Soon, the intelligent mechs arrived at the room where the apothecaries had died tragically. They found six bodies lying in pools of blood and six empty, sealed liquid containers.
Everything was too bizarre. A chill ran down everyone's spine as they watched the scene unfold. If their enemy was indeed a transparent daemon from the warp, how could they defend themselves and defeat it?
Omega spoke evenly. "Have the intelligent control mechs thoroughly inspect all six sealed liquid containers, leaving no detail overlooked!"
The order was given, and the intelligent control mechs in the research laboratory meticulously photographed the six sealed liquid tanks. A large number of pictures were sent over, and everyone was at a loss, looking at the sealed tanks with not a single hole visible.
After inspecting the entire research institute, Cofer ordered the Thunderhawk gunships to retrieve the intact intelligent mechs.
