Anastasia lay in her bedroom, staring out the window at the dark sky.
No matter how much she tried, she couldn't sleep. She had grown used to Lori sleeping right next to her, and now the bed felt too big and too empty.
It reminded her of her time at Matteo's house. She had spent so many nights there sleeping alone, feeling lonely and tired.
Now that empty feeling had finally gone away, and she didn't want it to come back.
She slowly sat up and slid her feet into her flip-flops. She walked out of the room quietly, her footsteps soft on the floor.
She stopped halfway down the stairs and looked at the living room. It was mostly dark, except for the small lights glowing under the kitchen cabinets.
She saw Dylan fast asleep on the couch.
Anastasia sat down on the wooden step right where she was. She wrapped her arms around herself as if she were shivering from cold.
She thought about how different things were now. Dylan wasn't Matteo.
