Brooklyn, old brick house district.
Maurice sat in his daughter's living room, with his three-year-old grandson Roger on his lap.
The little boy was intently coloring something on a drawing paper with crayons.
"Grandpa, what color is this?" Roger asked, holding up a green crayon.
"That's green, baby," Maurice patiently replied, "just like the leaves in spring."
Roger giggled and continued to draw crooked lines on the paper.
Maurice's daughter-in-law, Sara, walked out of the kitchen, holding two cups of coffee.
"Dad, you look much better recently," Sara said, sitting opposite Maurice, "Is the new job going smoothly?"
"Very smoothly," Maurice took the coffee, "The boss is very nice, and the work isn't too tiring."
He didn't tell his daughter-in-law the true nature of his job.
As far as Sara knew, her father was just a consultant at a private security company.
As for the fact that the boss of this company had superpowers, and employees included Abomination and the God of the swamp, she knew nothing.
Maurice thought this was good.
Some things are safer if family members don't know.
"Roger, show Grandpa what you've drawn," Sara said gently.
The little girl excitedly held up her drawing.
It was a typical child's drawing.
Crooked houses, a disproportionate Sun, and several stick-figure-like people.
"This is our house," Amy pointed to the house in the drawing, "This is Mom, this is me, and this is Grandpa."
Maurice looked at the stick figure representing himself, and a warm feeling surged in his heart.
Since his wife passed away, it had been a long time since he had experienced such simple family warmth.
"That's a great drawing, Roger," Maurice gently stroked his granddaughter's hair, "Grandpa will hang it in his room."
"Really?" Roger's eyes lit up.
"Of course."
Just then, Maurice's phone vibrated.
He glanced at it; it was a message from William.
"Important progress in the lab. Dr. Connors wants to report on the work. Return to the island tomorrow morning."
Maurice quickly replied "Received" and put away his phone.
"Work-related?" Sara keenly sensed something.
"Yes, I need to go back early tomorrow," Maurice nodded, "But we can go to the park this afternoon."
Roger immediately jumped up excitedly.
"Great! I want to swing!"
North Brother Island, biology laboratory.
Dr. Connors was examining tissue samples in a petri dish.
Under the microscope, the cells were dividing and reorganizing at a visible speed.
This was his latest research achievement.
After several months of improvements, the limb regeneration technology had finally reached a practical stage.
The most critical breakthrough was that he successfully isolated and removed the gene fragments that caused lizard transformation.
The current serum would only promote the regeneration of human cells without causing any adverse genetic mutations.
"Dr., Mr. William has arrived," an assistant said at the door.
Connors looked up and saw William walk into the lab.
"Dr. Connors," William nodded in greeting, "I hear there's good news?"
"Indeed, it's good news," Connors's face showed a long-lost smile, "Please look at this."
He led William to a special observation window.
Inside the window was a small laboratory mouse.
The mouse's right hind leg had been completely amputated a week ago, and now a new, completely normal leg had grown in its place.
"No side effects?"
William carefully observed the mouse.
"Absolutely none," Connors's tone was full of pride, "Blood tests, behavioral observations, tissue section analysis, all data show that this mouse is completely normal. The newly grown limb is functionally identical to the original."
William nodded.
This was indeed a major breakthrough.
If this technology could be applied to humans, it would completely revolutionize the entire medical industry. Not only amputees, but any patient who had lost body tissue due to accident or illness could benefit.
"How are the preparations for human trials?" William asked.
Connors's expression became cautious.
"I have completed all theoretical verifications and animal experiments. Technically, human trials can now be conducted," He paused, "However, I need suitable volunteers."
"What kind of volunteers?"
"First, they must be amputees so that we can observe obvious effects," Connors began to explain, "Secondly, the volunteers must be healthy and have no other serious diseases. Finally, and most importantly, they must fully understand the risks of the trial and participate voluntarily."
William pondered for a moment.
Finding suitable volunteers for human trials was indeed not an easy task. Even if the technology was very mature, any medical technology involving the genetic level carried unknown risks.
"I will help you contact some channels," William finally said, "The Military might be interested. They have many soldiers disabled by war."
Connors nodded.
"However, before that, I want to conduct another round of primate trials," He added, "Monkeys and humans have more similar physiological structures, and the experimental results will be more convincing."
"How long will that take?"
"Two to three months."
William nodded with satisfaction.
Connors's caution was correct. Even if they were confident, when it came to human trials, no amount of carefulness was too much.
"Don't worry about funding," William patted Connors's shoulder, "Continue your research. Once this technology is successful, it will bring huge profits to the company."
Connors smiled.
He knew that the profits William mentioned were not just money.
A company that could provide limb regeneration technology would have absolute say in the medical industry.
Whether it was governments, the Military, or private clients, they would all flock to such technology.
"One more thing," Connors suddenly remembered something, "I discovered some interesting phenomena during the research process."
"What phenomena?"
"The regenerated tissue seems to be tougher than the original," Connors pulled up a set of data on the screen, "The strength has increased by about twenty percent, and the wound healing speed is also faster."
William's eyes lit up.
What did this mean?
This meant that limb regeneration technology could not only treat disabilities but also, to some extent, enhance human physical functions.
What if this technology were applied to an intact human body?
Could it allow ordinary people to gain some level of Superman abilities?
"This discovery is very important," William said seriously, "You need to thoroughly study the mechanism and limits of this enhancement effect."
"I am currently conducting related experiments," Connors nodded, "Preliminary speculation is that this enhancement effect may be related to energy optimization during the cell reorganization process."
When William left the laboratory, he was in a very good mood.
Connors's research not only solved technical problems but also unexpectedly discovered the enhancement effect. This once again sent the value of the entire technology soaring.
Now the only problem was how to commercialize this technology.
The medical industry is very strictly regulated, and any new technology needs to go through a lengthy approval process. But William believed that, with the revolutionary value of this technology, a suitable partner could certainly be found.
Perhaps, it was time to talk to Tony Stark.
Stark Industries also had investments in the biomedical field, and Tony himself was a technical expert who could better understand the value of this technology.
More importantly, Tony had enough influence to push through the relevant approval processes.
William took out his phone and dialed Tony's number.
"Hey, insurance guy. Why is it you again? Miss me?"
"Tony, I have a business I want to discuss with you."
"Business? What business?"
"Limb regeneration technology. Interested?"
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds.
"Are you serious?" Tony's voice suddenly became serious, "Real limb regeneration? Not some mechanical prosthesis?"
"Complete biological regeneration," William confirmed, "And no side effects."
"Motherfucker!" Tony cursed, "I'm coming right over!"
