Chapter 410: Mega Steelix vs. Mega Gyarados! (Part 3)
"STEEL!!!! —"
Mega Steelix let out a pained, metallic wail as its massive body was launched
backward by the force of the strike.
BOOM!!!!! —
The iron snake smashed into the ground, creating a thunderous impact that made
the entire room vibrate.
In the midst of the swirling sandstorm, Mega Steelix slowly pushed itself
upright. Its blue eyes fell upon the carpet of glittering dust scattered across
the floor—the remains of its defensive shards.
From the sidelines, Mason Chu had already deciphered Kenji's strategy.
It was common knowledge that repeated exposure to extreme heat followed by
absolute cold would fundamentally weaken the structural integrity of any metal.
Mega Beedrill had effectively brittle-fied the Iron Snake's primary defense.
Add to that the sheer kinetic output of Gyarados's Conqueror's Infusion and Aqua
Tail, and the result was inevitable: Mega Steelix's pride and joy—its nearly
invincible defensive shards—had been reduced to powder.
While those fragments were part of its own metallic hide and could technically
be regenerated, doing so in the middle of a high-speed battle was impossible.
Mega Steelix needed time and concentration to "shed" new layers.
And Kenji wasn't about to give it either.
The loss of its orbiting shards crippled Mega Steelix's versatility. Its combat
style relied on those fragments for kiting, multi-angle strikes, and reactive
shielding. Now, it felt like a building that had lost its support beams. It was
just a target.
"ROAAAARRRR!!!! —"
Mega Gyarados rocketed forward once again, its side-vents screaming with
high-pressure water as it lunged.
Mega Steelix lashed out, hurling a barrage of boulders with Rock Blast.
Mega Gyarados didn't slow down. It twisted and banked mid-air, dodging most of
the projectiles. For the few it couldn't avoid, the serpent simply turned its
head, its Waterfall shroud acting like a liquid plow that detonated the rocks
upon contact.
It arrived in front of Mega Steelix and swung its tail in a wide arc.
BANG!!! —
Mega Steelix countered with its own Iron Tail. The two massive limbs collided,
but even with the Iron Snake's raw weight, it was no longer a match for the
Infused serpent. It was pushed back yet again, its tail skidding through the
sand.
"Earth Power!!!!"
"STEEL!!!! —"
"Take to the sky!!!"
SWISH!!! —
Although Gyarados lost its Flying type upon Mega Evolving, it retained its
ability to fly—in fact, with the high-pressure water jets on its fins, its
aerial speed had only increased.
As Mega Gyarados ascended, dozens of stone pillars erupted from the floor, aimed
precisely at the coordinates it had occupied a heartbeat prior. The spikes were
so hard and sharp that if the serpent had stayed grounded, its hide would have
been riddled with holes.
"Surf from above!!!"
"ROAAAARRRR!!!! —"
Mega Gyarados bellowed. In the sky above the arena, a massive volume of water
manifested as if a dam had broken in the heavens. A terrifying tidal wave
plummeted toward the field like a stampede of liquid monsters, promising to
drown everything below.
"Dig!!"
Mega Steelix dove, its head plowing through the reinforced floor to vanish
underground.
KRA-KOOM!!!! —
The Surf hit the floor with a sound that shook the foundations of the tower, the
weight of the water causing the entire facility to vibrate.
"Fire a Hydro Pump into the tunnel!!"
Seeing that Mega Steelix hadn't surfaced, Kenji pressed the attack. Mega
Gyarados unhinged its jaws and unleashed a pillar of water as thick as an
ancient oak tree, aimed directly into the hole the snake had dug.
The sheer pressure of the pump caused the tunnel entrance to explode outward.
BAM BAM BAM!!! —
The water flooded the subterranean passages, the sound of the internal pressure
reaching the surface as a series of muffled, booming thuds.
"Mega Steelix!! Iron Meteor!!"
BOOM!!!! —
The ground erupted. The Hydro Pump was pushed back by a sudden surge of
Ground-type energy. Rising on a pillar of water and debris was a massive,
spherical boulder. As the water pressure hit its peak, the boulder shattered,
revealing what was inside: Mega Steelix, coiled into a perfect, reinforced iron
ball.
Using the kinetic energy of the Hydro Pump as a propellant, the spinning ball of
metal rocketed toward Mega Gyarados in the sky.
Mega Beedrill uncoiled its tail, swinging it downward like a massive bat at the
incoming ball.
CLANG!!!! —
The sound of metal on scale was deafening. The coiled Mega Steelix was swatted
out of the air, plummeting back toward the floor.
But the Iron Meteor was a high-level counter. The combination of its spin and
the upward momentum of the Hydro Pump had enough force to knock Mega Gyarados
off balance. The serpent staggered mid-air, pushed back several meters by the
recoil.
Mason Chu had used Earth Power to create a protective shell to absorb the
initial water damage and then used Rollout + Iron Head + Double-Edge to turn the
situation into a lethal counter-engage. His mastery over his Ace's move set was
absolute.
Landing back on the floor, Mega Steelix didn't stop spinning.
The "Meteor" gambit was a chain. Rollout's damage increased with every
consecutive hit. Mason intended to keep the momentum going until his partner hit
its power cap.
Mega Steelix rolled across the arena floor, picking up speed and gathering
power, waiting for its next chance to launch into the sky.
"Whirlpool!!!!"
"ROAAAARRRR!!!! —"
Kenji wasn't about to let the ball of death build its speed. Mega Gyarados
roared, and on the water-drenched floor below, a violent, spinning vortex of
water erupted.
Whirlpool: The Water-type equivalent of Fire Spin, designed to trap and grind
the target within a high-speed liquid cage.
