Chapter 327: Mega Alakazam!
As Master Li reached for the Key Stone on his necklace, a blinding blue light erupted from his eyes and Alakazam's simultaneously. It was the physical manifestation of their combined psychic will.
In the next heartbeat, the stones resonated. Evolution energy surged around Alakazam, thickening until it formed a glowing white cocoon.
A moment later, the cocoon shattered. Mega Alakazam had arrived.
The brown armor of its previous form had been replaced by flowing purple robes, reminiscent of an ancient sorcerer. Its white beard had grown to an incredible length, nearly draping over its entire body. A large, faceted red gem glittered in the center of its forehead.
Its legs were tucked into a permanent cross-legged meditative pose, and instead of two spoons, five silver spoons now hovered behind it, dancing to the rhythm of its mind.
Upon Mega Evolving, Alakazam's physical muscles had completely atrophied, sacrificed to fuel its god-like mental capacity. It had lost the ability to walk entirely; it now existed as a being of pure thought, using telekinesis to stay aloft.
The red gem on its forehead acted as a focal point for its transcended power. With it, Mega Alakazam could reportedly perceive the immediate future, allowing it to evade attacks before they were even launched.
Its base HP was a mere 55, and its physical Attack was a negligible 50. It was the definition of a glass cannon.
However, its Special Attack had reached a terrifying 175, and its Speed sat at a blistering 150. It was a specialized engine of destruction, a mirrored equivalent to Kenji's Mega Beedrill.
[Mega Alakazam]
...
Ability: Trace (Copies the opponent's ability upon entry. [Current Ability: Sniper])
By copying Drapion's Sniper ability, Mega Alakazam's already monstrous Special Attack now carried the potential for critical hits that would be absolutely catastrophic.
"Pin Missile!!!"
Drapion struck first. Its tail hook uncoiled, launching a dense barrage of glowing needles at the sorcerer.
But before the needles could travel even a meter, Mega Alakazam vanished.
Teleport!!!
In the blink of an eye, the psychic appeared directly behind Drapion. Its eyes flared with blue light, and a suffocating mental pressure slammed into the scorpion.
Disable!!
In this high-level battle, Disable wasn't just a move that blocked a skill; it was a psychic bind. If the user's will was strong enough, it could physically lock the opponent in place.
Seizing the moment while Drapion was mentally suppressed, Mega Alakazam channeled energy through two of its floating spoons. Jagged bolts of electricity crackled between them before coalescing into a focused beam of light.
Charge Beam!
An Electric move that deals damage with a high chance of raising the user's Special Attack.
As the beam hissed toward Drapion's back, the scorpion reacted with predatory speed. Without even turning its body, Drapion's tail lashed out.
WHACK!!! —
With a spray of sparks and a sound like a whip cracking, Drapion's tail slammed into the Charge Beam, swatting the energy aside.
Then, Drapion's head performed a gruesome 180-degree rotation, its face snapping around to glare at the psychic behind it.
Mega Alakazam was powerful, but Drapion was a monster in its own right. Fueled by its previous Attack boosts, the scorpion flexed its armored joints and shattered the Disable bind through sheer physical force.
Drapion unhinged its jaw, firing several venomous needles at the floating master.
Mega Alakazam used Teleport again, repeating the tactic. It appeared on Drapion's flank and fired another Charge Beam.
Again, Drapion's tail was there, knocking the beam out of the air.
Mega Alakazam's speed was superior. Even though Drapion was three levels higher, the psychic was playing a game of hit-and-run that the scorpion couldn't easily stop.
But there was a method to the madness. With each Charge Beam, Mega Alakazam was fishing for stat boosts. Its Special Attack had already risen by three stages.
Kenji frowned. If this continued, Mega Alakazam would eventually reach a point where its raw output would overwhelm Drapion's defenses.
However, on the field, Elder Venom (Grandma Liu) looked perfectly composed. She watched the teleporting psychic with the detached interest of an apex predator watching a fly.
"Xie!!! —"
Facing the flickering psychic, Drapion defended another strike. This time, as its tail whipped around, it didn't just block. It released a glob of thick, bubbling, violet-black liquid.
Toxic!!! —
If it hit, the battle would be on a countdown. The poison would eat away at the glass cannon's already fragile health bar.
Mega Alakazam used Teleport effortlessly, the venom splashing onto the arena floor instead.
The liquid sizzled as it touched the ground, the reinforced floor showing signs of corrosion.
The Toxic missed, but Drapion didn't seem to care. It continued its defensive stance, weaving through Mega Alakazam's assaults while periodically spraying more venom into the air.
By now, Mega Alakazam's Special Attack had been boosted to +3. Its beams were becoming dangerously intense.
But at the same time, the arena floor had been dotted with puddles of incredibly potent venom.
"Sunny Day!!"
Suddenly, Drapion changed its rhythm. Under Grandma Liu's command, it raised a claw toward the sky.
The sunlight in the arena began to intensify. The temperature rose.
Mega Alakazam didn't just watch. It tried to capitalize on the setup time, firing a barrage of psychic energy from its spoons.
But Drapion was a master of the "Active Defense." While its claws were focused on the weather ritual, its tail moved like a sentient whip, intercepting and deflecting every incoming bolt.
Under the protection of its own tail, Drapion successfully brought out the sun.
